TV triplets bid $2,000,000 for octuplet story

Yes, we hate the media. With a passion. And this story demonstrates why.

Television’s talk triplets — Oprah Winfrey, ABC’s Diane Sawyer, and CBS’ Katie Couric — are reportedly involved in fierce negotiations for the first interview with Nadya Suleman. Her price tag is reportedly $2 million.

Of course, Suleman’s the wacky 33-year old California woman who recently gave birth to octuplets and is now the mother of 14 children under the age of 8.

No further comment necessary.

“Just wondering......is this woman a citizen?”

I’ve seen no indication she isn’t. Second generation, has a college degree.

I invite you to do the math. Very rough math: $2,000,000 divided by 14 kids divided by eighteen years yields $7900 a year per kid. Be assured that this amount per capita will not keep this woman off the dole.

After taxes that should just about cover the hospital bill.

She isn’t the one being crazy here, the three twits are.

Not really. The three "twits" aren't any crazier than Ms. Suleman. They (more accurately, their producers) know they can make a boatload of money by paying this woman $2MM for her first interview, because many tens of millions of Amreicans will soak it up, buy the products that are advertised during the breaks, etc. Let's face it, there are tens of millions of twits at the root of this.

Personally, I more intrigued by what medical science may learn from this woman. Something went VERY right with her body once this pregnancy was established. These are not only just the second set of octuplets to be born alive, but the smallest of her set weighed 230% more than the smallest of the Chukwu octuplets (which didn't survive), and all eight are breathing without ventilator assistance (only two needed ventilator assistance even briefly after their births) and digesting breast milk. The largest of the Chukwus was 1 lb 10 oz (just 2 ounces more than Suleman's smallest) vs. Suleman largest who weighed in at a whopping 3 lb 4 oz.

Presumably, several specialists were monitoring her very closely, and recording a huge number of physiological variables as the pregnancy progressed. I think it's very likely that many future preemies (multiples and singles) will end up surviving and thriving because of what medical science learns from this woman's case.

frankly i am a bit surprised at SOME of the reaction here. let me explain:

this woman is obviously so ardently pro-life that she would have rather had all 8 of her embryos implanted than see any of them destroyed.

yes, she is a loon and this whole thing is very sad, but the reason she did this was because she wanted to give them all a chance to survive. obvioulsy no one thought they all would, but that is another story.

the media, on the other hand, is fine with all the baby-killing that goes on. it's weird that they are fawning all over her.

"Of course, there will be other deals as well, corp sponsorships, etc. but not a bad start financially if it happens."

I don't see corporate sponsorships for a woman that the country views so negatively.

wait till the medical bills start pouring in when some of these kids start having problems. According to other reports her other original 6 were not being taken care of correctly. This is one big PC example of stupidity and irresponsibility on both the mother and medical professionals involved

When I was a kid, several families in our (rural) area had large families. A dozen kids wasn’t unusual.

Fourteen kids under age 8 is. No matter how you slice it.

In those large families that I grew up with, the older children could help tend to the younger ones and/or work. That won't be the case here.

Two million dollars won't begin to cover the needs of this crew over time.

The whacky mother is Nadya Suleman, of Palestinian origins.

Most likely mass-producing Hama, Jihadis and al Qaedas.

All at US taxpayer expense.

True but you forgot all the free stuff and paid endorsements for diapers, baby food, baby wash, etc.

You may be correct though I imagine that if the family can portray an image of 1) they are US citizens and 2) they are not being a burden on US citizens ... then I think that many attitudes would change towards this family.

Hey Barracuda,

Unfortunately, there is no law against stupidity. Most idiots do not even realize how dumb they are. Most democrats that I know constantly tell me how smart they are and how all republicans are stupid, racist, and greedy pigs. If there were such a law, the democrats would use it to get rid of us conservatives.

I suspect that, in addition to excellent medical care, this awesomely successful outcome for an octuplet pregnancy is due in part to “obsessed” Nadya’s obsessions including exceptionally good nutrition, physical fitness, avoidance of alcohol/tobacco/drugs, and everything else that goes into giving babies the best possible in utero environment. She deserves credit on that front. Plenty of naturally conceived singletons in this country are born in a lot worse shape than any of the Suleman octuplets, because their mothers refuse to maintain a healthy lifestyle even when they’re pregnant.

“she was only after making free money without having to work. “ I would argue that being the single mother of 14 children under the age of 8 is far harder than just about any job out there. The work must be overwhelming. I have 5 between the ages of 13 and 18, and they were a full time job for my wife.

I don’t get what everyone is so upset about here. Its her life, and the kids are her responsibility. That is the great thing about this country....we have freedom to live our lives as we see fit. That should include having as many children as we want, in any way that we want. She is selling her story, and making enough to support her kids. She isn’t asking me for anything. What is the problem?

What a way to fuel this woman’s obsession for having kids.

The State of Kalifornia is requiring I spay my female dog so she won’t have any litters, wanted or unwanted.

What medical facility agreed to implant the embryos into this person?

Is the “sperm donor” of all 14 of her kids going to be required to have some responsibility for the results?

Unmarried—Unemployed—Parents bankrupt—very small house.

To think that Nevada County tried to tell me and others a few years back that my horses needed so much space that we should NOT be allowed to have more than 2 horses on 5 acres.....

The worst twist in this story for me is that all of these 8 kids are considered “preemies” and no matter how healthy they grow up to be, SSI will be paid from the moment of birth to the day they each die...currently $600/month/baby.
That is an instant $4800 a month to her—and it isn’t subject to income tax.

Don’t have any info on whether any of her other children were preemies.
I could go on and on.

If she gets the $2 million for her story; she certainly won’t be a “burden on society” (as many have opined).”

NOT just an opinion:

FACT:
All these 8 kids are instantly eligible for S S I.

I don’t know which administration passed this into law.
Anyone know???

Parents filed bankruptcy a year and a half ago- and they walked away from their house at that time.

Grandpa supposedly used to be in the Iraqi Army- perhaps about when Saddam came into power. He was quoted as saying he wanted to go back to Iraq and try to get back into the military there and earn money for “his family”.

I would think he would disappear up the Amazon to not have to live in a house with 14 kids all under the age of 7, along with a “mother” who obviously has mental problems.
