This is billed as reaching across the aisle, but it sounds to me like a stratagem to get the 60 vote filibuster proof majority.
Annnnnd, that’s it, we’re screwed.

What a POS
It shows Gregg’s interest is Gregg.
He thinks he will lose in two years, so why not a cushy job for 4-8 years followed by lobbyhing and consulting at seven figure salaries afterwards.
The NH Gov won’t appoint a Democrat, per Gregg’s deal for accepting the job, however it will be a Chafee-style liberal Republican who will vote for cloture on every contentious Democrat bill. This “Republican” will likely be utterly useless.
Why would he hop on board a cabinet with a bunch of socialists, tax cheats, and creeps? Commerce doesn’t even do much. In fact, it oughta be eliminated.

DANGER! DANGER! DANGER JIM ROBINSON! RINO IN AREA!!!!........
Christie Todd Whitman will be the replacement and will unite with McCain and Lyndsy graham to create a new republican party free of rush and racism.....

Some repubs can be extremely naive; naive or just plain stupid!
Camaraderie...
He can get his 60 and as soon as the now empty seat is filled he can fire Gregg. Maybe Hussein will wait a decent 6 months to fire him.
“Useless” to whom? Surely not useless to Hussein.
Co-Opted to the Borg!
He may appoint a Republican - but who says that Republicans has to be conservative or electable?
Well. At least the “messiah” will have a GOPer to pin it on when this whole mess goes south. Gregg can’t be very bright.
It doesn't matter whether he fires him or not. He doesn't have to listen to him, and he has policy czars which bypass the Cabinet.
He needs a slap.
THIS IS THE END OF AMERICA! WE ARE SO SCREWED! NOW THE DEMONAZIS CAN DO ANYTHING THEY WANT.
After the Blago thing, the MSRP of Gregg’s empty seat probably won’t be announced.
I smell a “Blago” deal here.
And, in a bizarre twist, the NH governor annouces the replacement for Gregg in the Senate will be....
Valerie Jarrett. He said there was a deal in place. He never said with whom. The Governor’s wife will also be enjoying her new seat on an investment board.
Obama is a sneaky, lying, devious scoundrel.
Mark my words, this Gov will pick some real scumbag of a Republican to appoint. Then Reid and the MSM will be all over his "corruption" etc, and they will be forced not to seat him....then replace him with a dem.
The Rino's in congress need to quit playing checkers and satrt playing chess. at the end of the day, Obama will have stolen a senate seat for the dems, held up to his end of the bargain, and further wounded the pubbies.
Why would he associate himself with the most corrupt, criminal administration we have ever seen?
I begin to think we are the RINOS.
Except that Gregg is up for re-election in two years as an incumbent. Part of the deal was that the governor would replace him with a moderate (BLEAGH), but that appointment would only last two years. And the person appointed has to stipulate that they wont run in two years as an incumbent.
So in two years its a head to head between two novices in a leftist state.
Gregg has evidently committed to letting Obama have a clear majority starting in 2011. Wonderful.

I thought she was from NJ.
I predict that within a year, the Republican appointed to fill in the gap will have been found out in some unethical scheme, and forced to resign as Republicans will when accused of anything. The governor will then make another replacement appointment ahead of the general elections.
Then Gregg will get caught as a tax cheat or hiring an illegal nanny or two. Or fly to Bosnia.
Why bother any longer...we are being sold out from our own.
This isn't play time.
On inauguration day we began working on correcting this with several groups and we are branching out to accomplish a couple of things. Primarily, we are going to capture as many seats back at the mid term as we can. In capturing seats back that means from RINOs as well as democrats.
In the process we hope to give the few true conservatives in congress enough support to have them valiantly stall Obama and his minions when ever possible.
You can help by visiting The NuList, and letting us know who and where you are. Then you can get "serious" conservative friends to do the same.
If the most effort people want to make is commenting on discussion boards and sending email jokes to friends, then this truly might be the end. If people will get busy and commit, we can make a difference. MoveOn.org took control of the democrat party while we typed away in chat rooms and told jokes about John McCain. Now look where we are.
We don't have to stay here. Our group has core members in seven states who are mputting our time and money into what we believe. We've had 30,000 website hits since inauguration day with only word of mouth saturation.

Gregg would have won re-election. Even in New Hampshire which has been Democratic in 2006 & 2008, Gregg was popular, and pretty conservative by and large.
Your exactly Right.Judd Gregg Knew what the hell he was doing by taking that job.He knew He was placing His party at risk but he only proved what everyone should have known and that's the fact he is A RINO.
Good Riddance Gregg.
I vote for all the above
How stupid can Gregg be? We are getting a good indication.
That was my first thought but I understand he would only accept with the proviso that the Governor appoint a pubbie to fill his vacant seat.
And there’s the problem. In New Hampshire we have trouble enough as it is. Here we have a guy in a good slot, and he’s going to toss it so we have to try even harder to break even.
There’s no fire in the belly of any of those folks in D.C.
I’d love to see the rest of the Republicans in the Senate block the nomination. Fat chance of that.
I think you’re missing the real point of the deal... Lynch will appoint a placeholder who will step aside in 2010... and Lynch will be handed the senate seat then without a contest.
The Republicans are facing a very long time in the wilderness now.
I'll bet that's all changed now...
So he would lose anyway in a leftist state. The problem is not Sen. Gregg. The problem is with Americans. They are choosing left-wing, liberal, or moderate politicians over right-wing or conservative politicians.
How will the senate vacancy be filled?
Holder confirmed as attorney general, 75-21

Good God. What’s the point, jughead?
Do you think 2010 will be another bad year for the GOP? If so, why? Be very detailed.
He is well liked in his state. He has just ushered in absolute control of the Senate in 2011 to Obama, if he takes the appointment. And frankly, if I were him, I’d take a 50% cut in Senate pay before I’d do that. Turn me out in 2011, I’d be going down fighting.
