Obama supports some gun control
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | February 01, 2009

Posted on 02/02/2009 9:31:36 PM PST by george76

The Obama administration, cited by many Georgia gun owners as the reason they applied for concealed-carry permits last year, supports restrictions on certain kinds of guns and certain kinds of gun sales.

Brundage said Obama supports reviving the expired ban on assault weapons and making it permanent. And he backs closing the “gun show loophole,” ...

Obama said: “This has been peddled again and again. Here’s what I believe … people have the right to bear arms. But I also believe there is nothing wrong with some common-sense gun safety measures.”

Hey Bamster - concentrate on keeping this country from terrorist attacks and from having a world class economic meltdown. After you accomplish all that, if you can that is, then maybe you can screw around with the 2nd Amendment.

Common sense measures is liberal speak for gun control. He'll push it through restrictions and huge taxes on ammo sales...and add to ti a myriad of those "common sense" laws.

Those foolish common sense laws gave us Columbine, cre4ating killing zones for the depraved and criminally minded amongst our own kids.

Obama is for complete confiscation of ALL firearms (from law-abiding and patriotic Americans who he says cling to their Bibles and their guns).

I believe Obama is keenly aware of the founder’s purpose for the 2nd Amendment and would like nothing more to make an end-run around that as a self-defense move for his socialistic plans.

Wow, everything is totally overpriced now.

What ammo deal to cost 100 dollars now costs 200 dollars.

What magazine-fed rifle used to cost 1500 dollars now costs 3500 dollars.

Glad I got everything before The Big Scare.

Sheesh!

Common Sense Gun Safety Measures:

Treat every firearm as if it is loaded, always.

Never point the firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy

Never place your finger on the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

Be sure of what is beyond your target, and make sure nothing you do not want to hit is in the line of fire.

Always use enough gun.

The only time you can have too much ammo is when you are either on fire or trying to swim with it.

It is never a question of how many rounds are in the magazine, the one which will do damage is the one in the chamber.

Never hand a loaded firearm to a dumbass (see the first rule).

Never let a bunch of citified wussies make arbitrary and ridiculous rules for country boys who won't follow them anyway.

Of course Obama is a liar. He is for draconian anti-gun laws with a goal of disarming law abiding citizens.

Eric Holder is his AG because of Holder’s anti-gun positions. My only question is how far and how fast he will try to disarm the people and how will the people respond.

Taking the Second Amendment seriously is the first step toward protecting the country from terrorists — it’s the basic constitutional provision for “the security of a free state”. If he wants to play economic stimulus, he ought to give a tax credit for $100 for anyone who takes an armed self-defense course.

The Assault Weapons Ban that he plans to revive would have an additional clause. That clause would allow the Attorney General to add any specific weapon to the list at any time without any review or approval by anyone other than himself.

According to Dr. John Lott, he met Obama a few times in passing when they were both at University of Chicago. The first time Lott introduced himself to the new ConLaw guy. Obama said, “Oh, you’re the gun guy, aren’t you?”.

Lott said, “Yeah, I guess I am.”

Obama said, “I don’t think people should be allowed to own guns”, and walked away.

This is from an article in the Chicago Defender from Dec 13, 1999. I don’t think that I am supposed to post the whole thing, so I will just paste some highlights.

“Obama unveils federal gun bill

Sweeping federal gun control legislation proposed by Sen. Barack Obama (D-13th) would increase the penalties on gun runners who are flooding Chicago’s streets with illegal weapons.

At an anti-gun rally held at the Park Manor Christian Church, 600 E. 73rd St., headed by the Rev. James Demus, Obama also said he’s backing a resolution being introduced into the City Council by Alds. Toni Preckwinkle (4th), Ted Thomas (15th), Leslie Hairston (5th) to call for a “shot-free” millennium celebration.

Obama outlined his anti-gun plan that includes increased penalties for the interstate transportation of firearms. The maximum penalty now for bringing a gun across the border is 10 years in prison.

Obama is proposing to make it a felony for a gun owner whose firearm was stolen from his residence which causes harm to another person if that weapon was not securely stored in that home.

He’s proposing restricting gun purchases to one weapon a month and banning the sale of firearms at gun shows except for “antique” weapons. Obama is also proposing increasing the licensing fee to obtain a federal firearms license.

He’s also seeking a ban on police agencies from reselling their used weapons even if those funds are used to buy more state-of-the-art weapons for their agencies. Obama wants only those over 21 who’ve passed a basic course to be able to buy or own a firearm.

He’s proposing that all federally licensed gun dealers sell firearms in a storefront and not from their homes while banning their business from being within five miles of a school or a park. He’s also banning the sale of ‘junk” handguns like the popular Saturday Night Specials.”

“He’s also asking that gun manufacturers be required to develop safety measures that permit only the original owner of the firearm to operate the weapon purchased.”

“Let’s send a message that we can have a New Year’s eve where no one fires a weapon either for the reason of violence or as a celebration,” said Obama.

Um, no. Pretty much everything in an effective caliber is in high demand. The highest demand *is* for battle rifles and so-called “assault weapons” as well as magazine-fed pistols.

Detachable magazine-fed shotguns were in high demand by 2006. I have one, a Saiga-12. Unfortunately, the only way I was able to get it was via dealer several years ago, so the government knows I have it.

I expect the S-12 to go on the ban list shortly.

It's interesting to have a Constitutional Law professor who can interpret those confusing words "shall not be infringed" for us. Usurper 333 (not the Beast, just half-way there) is not what this country needs.
