Wow - only 736 pages. This pales compared to our tax system. Then again, it’s completely full of pork as far as I can see from my quick glance.

Page 6:

“For an additional amount for ‘‘Rural Development,
3 Salaries and Expenses’’, $110,000,000, to remain avail4
able until September 30, 2010.”

Or, this gem:

“(III) ELIGIBILITY.—A local edu
cational agency is eligible to receive a
grant under this clause if the local
educational agency—
(aa) is eligible to receive a
payment under section 8002 or
8003 of the Elementary and Sec
ondary Education Act of 1965
(20 U.S.C. 7702 and 7703) for
fiscal year 2008; and
(bb) has—
(AA) a total taxable as21
sessed value of real property
that may be taxed for school
purposes of less than
$100,000,000”

So even though an institution has assetts worth up to 100 million dollars, they are still eligible to receive pork from US taxpayers’ pockets!

Senator DeMint has a plan and here is what he says about the dems plan:

“The stimulus bill that is being championed by President Obama, which was passed by Democrats in the House last night, is the worst piece of economic legislation Congress has considered in a hundred years. Not since the passage in 1909 of the 16th Amendment — which cleared the way for a federal income tax — has the United States seriously entertained a policy so comprehensively hostile to economic freedom, nor so arrogantly indifferent to economic reality.”

DICK MORRIS:
“But Obama’s strategy is to hide inside the Trojan Horse of stimulus an army of radical measures to change America permanently.

The most pernicious of his proposals will be the massive Make Work Pay refundable tax credit. Dressed up as a tax cut, it will be a national welfare program, guaranteeing a majority of American households an annual check to “refund” taxes they never paid. And it will eliminate the need for about 20% of American households to pay income taxes, lifting the proportion that need not do so to a majority of the voting population. Unlike the Bush stimulus checks, this new program will be a permanent entitlement, a part of our budget that can only go up and never down. Politically, it will transform a majority of Americans from taxpayers, anxious to hold down government spending, into tax eaters, eager to reap new benefits.”
If you would like to see for yourself just exactly what Congress calls economic stimulus, then you should check out the web site READ THE STIMULUS. Be sure to open the SPREADSHEET you can find there.

I flipped at random and landed in the ‘energy’ section. All for renewable, nothing for petrol or nukes.

Editorial in today’s Wall Street Journal: Raiders of the Lost Taxpayer; A Tax Break for Tinseltown:

The House version of the stimulus already includes a bonus depreciation that lets businesses immediately write off 50% of their 2009 capital expenditures. But the Senate bill expands the definition of “qualifying property” — specifically to include “certain motion picture film or videotape.” Hollywood moguls like Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and George Lucas were among the biggest backers of President Obama’s candidacy, and it looks as though Democrats have found a way to return the favor.

So let’s see: Democrats object to cutting the U.S. 35% corporate tax rate — which is higher than in all of Europe, undermines economic growth and discourages job creation — for all companies on grounds that it favors the rich and powerful. But Democrats will carve out tax loopholes for businesses they like and that write them campaign checks.

If your Senators happen to be on the ‘other’ side of political spectrum, you can always email the Republican Senate Leaders using their online forms.

Seems to me that with the encouragement of fellow Conservatives, Sen. Mitch McConnell is growing cajones. He can be emailed at http://mcconnell.senate.gov/contact_form.cfm

Senate Whip, Sen. Jon Kyle can be emailed at http://kyl.senate.gov/contact.cfm

And I usually email Rep. John Boehner and Rep Eric Cantor as well when I email the Senators. http://republicanleader.house.gov/Contact/
http://republicanwhip.house.gov/ (he’s got a video there)
