The University of Colorado will ask the state to go through with its commitment to help fund a $63.5 million visual arts complex thats being built on the campus.
The state had agreed to pay $18.47 million for the visual arts complex, which crews began building last April. But amid the economic downturn, the building landed on the states construction freeze list along with two other CU projects that have yet to be started.
Weve got a gigantic concrete shell of a building at the heart of our campus,
The state construction freeze is also affecting a $9.4 million renovation of the Ketchum Arts and Sciences Building... Also, the state had dedicated $14.1 million for a $15.7 million renovation at the Ekeley Sciences Building that was expected to be done in July 2010.

I guess the students are learning a big lesson in politics and contract law.

Yep, it’s a reality check for those who are lost in the make-believe world of school and grant funding.
But it is a nice concrete shell .

The Barack Obama Museum and Workers Circle Union Hall?
Dude... it’s Boulder, man. Turn it into, like, a totally awesome skate-park and microbrewery.
$18 million for “visual arts”?????
Guess we don’t need research in energy, environment, physics, and other things that are actually useful and require a brain.
Of course, Boulder does need employment for all the rest of the unhirables - after all, they can’t all be in the Obamaloon cabinet.
Your photo isn’t quite large enough on my 23” monitor. Could you resize that?
LOL
I should add that by “unhirable,” I am referring to the wimpy arts types, not the very productive folks that actually build things (an “art” completely unfathomable to the students of Ward Churchill).
$63.5 million visual arts complex .
$18 million from the taxpayers to start.
Four and a half Megabytes. I am on dialup, and will never see it.
Just wondering.... How much money does CU have in the bank? Universities “WHORed” their money all the while crying poor-mouth.

I need to get that second monitor that I have been thinking about lately.
Ward Churchill would love to have his name on that building.
...and paint-ball arena
Nothing says “art center” like a gigantic concrete shell of a building. ;’) Thanks geo.
Seems like CU’s been on a non-stop construction binge since ‘90 or so. Crap like this is why a 4-year degree now costs what it does.
