Skip to comments.(Dem) Senator Jim Webb says Pork bill has 100 billion fat in it
Posted on 02/05/2009 6:20:52 PM PST by HD1200
We keep hearing that the pork in the bill is 1% of the total. Tonight while channel flipping MSNBC, Maddow, had a reporterette on that said even Senator Jim Webb is upset with this "stimulus" bill quoting him as saying there is at least 100 billion of costs that do not belong in this bill. No vote tonight. Harry Reid was "mistaken" about having the votes. Dems are losing moderate Democratic Senators on this bill.
Jim Webb knows where the American public (= his constituents from a conservative state) stand on it.
Webb and Warner may both bail on the bill. There isn’t enough stimulus in the stimulus package.
I’m thinking more around $400,000,000,000.
You know, if we provide one or two votes to get them past a filibuster, I’d be ok with that - provided the Dems all vote for it.
I want this to pass, and then have our crash tied exclusively to the Dems. It’s ugly for the country, but needs to happen for our long-term survival.
oh here comes the setup—he’s inviting the RINO’s to cross the aisle now and sign the POS after shaving $100B off it. Stupid RINOs will do it, and the plan will be fulfilled. Dems never intended to get all they asked for anyway..just wait, next week it’ll pass and we will be told that everybody wins! yippeee
I would suggest that the esteemed senator has it backwards. Perhaps, and I say again, perhaps there might be 100 billion that is not fat
and that would be a generous assessment. ;-)
Only 100 billion in pork? Somehow I think that amount is much much greater.
They MUST think we are all stupid out here in the real world.
Well, at least half of us ARE stupid (the half that votes for SOCIALISTS).
I think I’m with you- burn, baby, burn
He used AF-1 to fly 131 miles. That is totally STUPID! It costs around $7,000 an hour to operate the AVERAGE 747. You can bet it is 10X as much for AF-1.
Try about 500 billion , Clifton.
A short trip over to Virginia from D.C. Wouldn’t it have been a lot cheaper to fly over in the Marine One helicopter rather than the 747.
Man, it’s Madcow....Madcow IS a man. Obama is the worst since Carter. Wasting taxpayer money on his big boy jet.
Webb is a traitor who writes Vietnam war novels about oral sex with young boys.
The cost of this thing is beyond obscene.
Don't sell the pork short. I'll go out on a limb and say there's about $930 billion worth of HORSESH*T in that bill.
I was thinking the same thing. What a waste of taxpayer money! Not only that, he used it to go to a Dem retreat which we, the taxpayers, are paying for also!
And gives his gun to a friend to carry into the capitol building, then throws him under the bus when the guy gets caught.
He used AF-1 to fly 131 miles to attend a Congressional Democratic retreat. Wonder who is picking up the tab for the retreat? Ironic this is happening at the same time the government is telling companies to cancel junkets.
Make public if any RINO’s go for that!!!!
This bill has to be SCRAPPED and areal stimulus bill.
I read that there were around $400,000,000,000 in ‘tax cuts’ but I suspect that some of those are the welfare payments to people who don’t pay taxes.
Good God! Can’t stand him, never knew THAT.
Don’t worry. If any stink is raised over the retreat, Zero will claim he doesn’t know anything about it.
I want this to pass, and then have our crash tied exclusively to the Dems. Its ugly for the country, but needs to happen for our long-term survival.”
Yes, it is the only thing we got left.
Obama rants and raves about the excesses of Wall St CEOs.
He goes on tv almost hourly telling the American people how dire and precarious our lives are.
And then he brags about having an excuse to short hop on AF1 as if he was taking a test drive at the Prius dealer.
Tonight he was tone deaf , agitated, unpresidential and nasty.
No vote tonight. Harry Reid was "mistaken" about having the votes. Dems are losing moderate Democratic Senators on this bill.
Is this your speculation, or was this reported???
Thank God there are some D’s that actually think.
I’m with you. I posted the following on another thread:
And he took AIR FORCE ONE!!!
The distance from Wash ro Williamburg is about 150 miles. Why did he not take one of his three helicopters?? No, instead he probably racked up plus $200K in costs for security, flight and special seats for his friends and, in the process, actually took longer to get there!
More of the same from our elected royalty!
My wife and I were ranting about that today. Irritated the ever living hell out of me that we're about to blow this deficit to the moon.
Now that I think about it. The moon race only cost about $237billion. Ok, we're gonna shoot this deficit to Saturn.
I'm quite curious how the tax cuts and massive welfare checks will compare to the expiration of the Bush tax cuts that are around the corner.
Is that pic photoshopped?
Don’t waste any opportunities to remind liberals that the democrats could pass this any time they want but haven’t.
Not sure but I think there was some doubt about it.
In my opinion, it is. The hog is blurred and the boy is not.
It is a real picture and real story.
Kind of like a picture of the moon between your index finger and thumb.
If a Dem says it has $100 Billion in fat, then we know that this bill must actually be 99.9% fat (which it is).
I'm sure by now you've heard of the almost one trillion dollar stimulus package moving through the U.S. Senate.
But it's not really a stimulus bill. It's a big government, big corruption, and big pork bill.
Among many other wasteful, non-stimulative projects, it includes $650 million for digital TV coupons, $1 billion for climate satellite and habitat restoration programs, and $600 million to replace a portion of the federal government vehicle fleet.
In the video below, I lay out in stark terms exactly why this bill, as currently written, is not worthy of our support. Please take a moment to watch.
The Gallup Poll found that 54% of Americans either want to see major changes to the current plan, or they outright reject it. Other surveys are also indicating that public support is plummeting. Politicians can call it stimulus and they can call it change, but it's just more of the same - and the American people are starting to realize it.
That's why the time to act is now. With so much at stake, our elected officials need to hear from us.
Here is what you can do - pick up your phone and call your Senators right now at 202-224-3121. Let them know exactly what you think about how they intend to spend your hard-earned money.
The Senate is voting at the end of this week, so please make the call today.
“Jim Webb knows where the American public (= his constituents from a conservative state) stand on it.”
I’ll best my last dollar that his phones are ringing off the hook...”NO, NO, NO, NO, NO,”
This bill going down in flames will be good for the (somewhat) conservative blue-dogs. There power will increase proportionally to the loss of Pelosi-power.
Useful expenditures are also called programs so it is all very confusing to the unwashed.
“Yes, it is the only thing we got left.”
Agree...unfortunately. We’ll be blamed for everything if we do manage to stop it (exclusively).
We can’t stop it!! Rats have the votes. Let them own it. I hope Collins and Snowe vote for it. No one else.
I emailed both Webb and Warner the day this bill passed the House. They responded saying that we need a stimulus but they recognized there are things in this bill that have to go.
Neither wants to be a one-term Senator.
I would say more like 900 billion fat. Get rid of it.
I seriously doubt they got the flaps up. That must have left a nice carbon footprint. No gas for you.
They remain in a panic. It’s a lot different when you have to answer for what you are so they will try and keep up the charade because Virginia isn’t that blue yet, but there is no doubt their true natures would like to tow the party line. This is proof the Demonrats don’t want to own this and their policies are nice in rhetoric yet a complete disaster they don’t want to take the fall for. Lost, empty, wicked souls every last one of ‘em.
