“Looking for a job?”
(Note: This thread is updated on a regular basis.)
Her first mistake was assuming there were jobs in Jonesport, Maine...
Good story. Howie built up some points and some good karma
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (Matthew 6:19-24).
Ah, Howie is a softy at heart - as we all know.
Now for the next story, where he helps a little old woman to change a tire, which he espouses he’ll never do.
Good for Howie - karma-baby-karma
Many years ago, the middle-aged Village President (an executive with Johnson & Johnson and a friend of mine) jumped out of the rear seat of a moving car occupied by himself and friends. He survived.
Months later, his wife noticed some liquid of a certain color running out from under the locked bathroom door and called for help. He had done the wrist bit, but survived after a hospital stay.
The third and last time, a year later, and even after lots of counselling, he drove from his suburban home to a deserted Lake Michigan beach near downtown Chicago and walked into the water till his hat floated. They found his body days later miles away.
Three times lucky. Where there's a will there's a way. Suicidals usually don't call talk show hosts if they're deadly serious although there certainly are exceptions to any rule.
Way to go, Howie!!
Yeah, I heard it, too. Howie did a good job.
The caller who followed this suicidal woman also gave what I thought were very cogent reasons against suicide. So cogent, in fact, that I wondered whether Sandy had contacted a suicide counselor in the background to help intervene.
As did I. Jonesport is a small place and they should easily be able to identify this woman and get her help. There is a Wesleyan Church there and I’d be surprised if they cannot get her what she needs. Her $441 a month mortgage cannot be that huge. As a side note, I did not hear if Avi will be filling in next week. I hope it is not Todd, Butchie or “the fading beauty” or I may consider suicide.
