GOA wants to thank all of you for your hard work in opposing the extremely anti-gun Eric Holder for Attorney General.
While we lost the battle on Monday (by a vote of 75-21), you guys registered your opposition loud and clear.
There is no doubt that your activism truly made gun rights THE issue in this nomination battle. Every Senator who spoke against Holder mentioned Second Amendment fears. And even among many of the Senators who voted for him, there was tremendous concern regarding Holders stance on gun rights.
As stated by The Washington Post yesterday, Holder overcame concerns by a small but vocal group of GOP lawmakers about his position on national security and GUN RIGHTS, as well as his recommendations in two controversial clemency decisions by President Bill Clinton.
This was truly a battle worth fighting. In fact, the man who was being deified two weeks ago is now the very same President who is widely seen as not being able to shoot straight in selecting cabinet members and is already starting to lose public support. The battle over Holder was certainly central to taking the bloom off this rose.
So thank you for helping magnify our voice on Capitol Hill. GOA spent many hours lobbying against Holder, as we were the only gun rights group in Washington to tell Senators we would be rating this vote in our end-of-session grade report.
With Holder in office, you can expect to see renewed efforts to drive gun dealers and manufacturers out of business -- similar to the efforts he supported while in the Clinton administration.
Expect also to see attempts to classify more guns as not suitable for sporting purposes. And dont be surprised to see attempts to use the No Fly List to disqualify

I would have voted against him for no other reason than he looks like Oprah’s boyfriend, Stedman.

I feel ashamed of my state of Missouri.
Gee, how surprising moderate RINO’s voted ‘for’ the gun grabber.
That Rhino Lindsey Graham did it again!
I was also PO'ed to see that one of the Senators who I held in high esteem up until this, Sessions R-AL, voted to confirm. So much for my esteem.
How can we expect to keep the anti's from doing whatever they want in re 2nd Amendment rights if our our own Repubs stab us in the back like this? One more outrage like this Holder confirmation vote by half the GOP Senators and I'm out of the GOP for good. Yeah I'm mad right now and I may not feel the same tomorrow, but I'm betting I will.
Right On! Unfortunately, we also have that idiot Harry Reid. . .
Am I blind or is McMoron not on the list?
I have to leave the puter now for most of the day. I hope some of you will bump the thread now and then while I’m away. I think it’s important that as many pro-gun FReepers as possible know how their Senator voted on this critical confirmation. They don’t come any worse than Holder unless he had appointed Sarah Brady or Josh Sugarman, and roughly half the treacherous GOP Senators voted to confirm him..
That really surprises me.
My Dad had a problem buying a gun not too long ago (mix up in the records). Kyl went to bat for him to get it cleared up in a fairly reasonable time solving the problem. I don't get it. (shaking head)
McCain started a pandemic!
Almost all of them reached across the aisle.
My sentiments exactly! There were only 3 in the sInate that were worth a tinker's dam...and I am very upset that Sessions has turned.
I just got off the phone leaving a message to express my disappointment in him. I have called numerous times to praise and/or thank him in the past. I asked if he was being blackmailed or was he not feeling well, that he would suddenly turn against his country and her people.
BTTT
NO, you are not blind! ;*)
No secrets there. The usual suspects lined up and voted RINO. GRRRRR. I knew mine would (Chucky and Lilly).
I maintain that John has been a problem his whole life. He was a problem as a kid, and he was a problem post military service. We have been given a good indication for the start of his military service. And this leads me to ponder what his total worth was as a member of the Military. That’s something I can never know. His is certainly unfit to serve from our side of the isle. His instincts are severely flawed.
It’s like having a bad block of memory in your computer. You may not touch on that block for a while, but you never know when it will cause a crash. And with McCain, you never know when he’ll betray the cause next.
Jim Webb talks the talk but fails to walk the walk yet again. “Born Fighting?” FOR WHAT? FOR WHOM? Certainly not for the people he works for and what they believe in.
Mark Warner? Pointless.
Let us hope and pray that they are simply keeping those seats warm until they are relieved of their Senatorial duties come the next election.
The problem is, these folks are involved in different matters every day. They don’t have their ear to the ground on these people. Holder just wasn’t on Kyle’s radar. It’s a shame, but that seems to be the reality.
All too many did...
These are the votes that tell you who and what people are.
People can make mistakes, but if they’re doing this all the time, they are a problem.
Well, it’s up to us to make sure they are just warming those seats momentarily.
Probably right. Sure doesn't say much for our "representation" though.
I mean, this wasn't a stupid little bill that was up for debate, this was an AG appointment. So if what you say is true, then Kyl is worthless, which like I said, surprises me.
I know I'm preaching to the choir, but damn.
I can’t argue with that at all. And how do those folks justify voting to confirm tax cheats? Right now they should be on the steps of the Capital pointing out what crooks Obama is appointing. Instead they are voting to confirm them.
Even when he hands the Republicans a talking point gift, our team is too stupid to realize he has.
I still don’t see the Porkulus bill described clearly on point. I’ve seen a few make some decent comments, but they are generally woefully inadequate. And we wonder why the Democrats clean our clocks constantly. Why shouldn’t they if we can’t even recognize what’s going on or articulate it in public?
“...but damn”, expresses it quite well.
All but a handful need to go.
At least enough of them need to go to put the others on notice. They won’t be tolerated in a Conservative party.
I’m for replacing them all. Don’t get me wrong. The days of lethargic party participation is over. It’s time to go active on these folks.
A clean start for America.
Amen...I caught part of McCain's interview the other night on Gretta regarding the "stimulus" bill. I'll just say it was embarrassing, the man is economically clueless.
But back to your point, it frustrates me that no one can/will articulate why this plan is a recipe for disaster. There are countless examples of plans like this that have failed in the past to point to, yet it is not being brought up.
This is Ronald Reagan's B-Day, there could not be a better time for our idiots to articulate a real plan to get this country going again. It really isn't that difficult.
Happy Birthday Ronald Reagan, you're sorely missed.
We’re practically sharing the same brain on this one LVR. I heartily agree.
Jeff Sessions is going to get an ear full from me next time I see him.
Good.
Looks like McMaverick voted to confirm him.
Yep, he did. McMaverick indeed.
The gang of 75 have stabbed us in the back.
The ball is in Mr. Holder’s court. I hope he’s wise enough to stand down and leave law-abiding gun owners alone.
I don’t think Obama has been shy about wanting to infringe on gun rights, and Holder is going to be his errand boy. I share you hope, but I don’t hold out much of it.
As sent to my Georgia Senators...
Dear Sir,
In light of your recent vote for Eric Holder as Attorney General, I just wanted to put you on notice, when Eric Holder starts his push against the American Citizens Second Amendment Rights, and he will. I will be holding you and our other Senator PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE.
I will not forget nor will I let family and friends forget your actions and your vote on this matter when you come up for re-election!
Hopefully you will not be so lucky with your next re-election bid! as you and the other Senator from Georgia are doing as much damage to our country and our Constitution than the democrats have done in years.
Regards,
You need new glasses, Ron. It’s in HUGE red letters.
I’ve been on R and R since the election, smile. Now I’m gettin’ mad again at our government and the stupid people who put zero in office. Love, M
Good letter. If you don't mind I will change the wording slightly and send it to both of them. I get an email from each of them ever month or so bragging about all the great things they are doing for me. I want them to know that I'm mad, that I don't appreciate them voting to confirm one of the worst enemies of the US Constitution ever to hold that office, and that I won't forget their vote when their next primary election comes around.
Of course Holder would have been confirmed even if every Repub had voted against him, the Dems have the votes to do pretty much anything they want. But even so it would have been encouraging to see ALL the Repub Senators voting for their constituents' best interests just once in their 2-faced lives, and NOT for the enemy's side of a very important issue. Did I mention that I'm mad?
Good idea, especially to keep one's sanity...good to see you around again!
Thanks. I’ve been hangin’ around the religion posts a lot but even that got to be a bit too much. Good to be back.
You can count on me and mine to do our respective parts on election day. Until then, they can count on our continued succinct and timely appraisals of their job performance. ;)
I’ll drink to that. Cheers...
