[42 min ago ] (NECN: Washington) - Lawmakers have reportedly made progress on an economic recovery package and a vote could come as early as this afternoon. The economic stimulus plan has grown to $937 billion. Moderates have been circulating a list of cuts...

But isn’t he the one who suspended his own presidential campaign to become part of this package?
Nobody follows a loser after they lost.
Thats just a fact of life. McCain’s plan isn’t much better, but then again thats not surprising since as he admits he’s basically an idiot on economic matters.
Sometimes, you just need a lil’ bit of Socialist on Socialist to make things interesting.
“The American people are figuring it out that this is not a stimulus bill, it is a spending bill full of unnecessary spending, unexamined policy changes and of course, tax cuts which really do not stimulate the economy,” said McCain.
“You cannot call a bill bipartisan if it has two or three of four or even five Republicans out of 535 members of Congress. You can call it an agreement, but not a bipartisan agreement,” said McCain.
McCain’s plan contained a one-year cut in the payroll tax, which would help all wage-earners, as well as reductions in the two lowest income tax brackets that would benefit only those who earn enough to pay income taxes.
______
Good for McCain. He needs to keep it up!
our country has NEVER seen anything like the outrageous abortion of a bilL!!!
Every tax paying American should be OUTRAGED and INSULTED.
I will be the first to thank him...if he stands strong and doesn’t end up voting for this rip off of the American people.
LOL! I remember that story about the boy shooting that monster pig. Maybe we can run him for President next time. :)
The word ‘progress’ should not be used when we’re speaking of spending $937,000,000,000 in tax payer money. Never.
McCain wants to cut payroll taxes. That's on target!
Now he grows a set. I guess better late than never. If only he was like this durning the election, we wouldnt have Obama.
This is essentially the 2009 Friends of the Democrats Payoff Act.
Why any Republican in their right mind would vote for this, or even seek to make it more reasoned so it could pass, is beyond me. This thing is rotten from a to z.
Which begs the obvious question, why in the hell wasn't he doing this in the first place? Say, in September and October? /masteroftheobvious
Er, hum, it was BUSH who cost us the election not McCain/Palin!
Yes, it is on target. Forbes is saying the same thing today.
The “bailout” in October was supposed to solve all these problems (McCain and Obama voted for it). Suddenly we need ANOTHER 900+ billion dollar “bailout”? When this one doesn’t work what will the next “bailout” be? 2 trillion?
I feel sorry for my grandchildren and great grandchildren having to pay this back. They’ll never have a decent lifestyle, having to pay this bloated pig of a Democrat government.
Posturing.
Colorado’s two Dim Senators have made it known they are part of the “moderates” trying to trim Porkulus. Maybe the realization is setting in that it’s not smart politics for the first act of the Messiah era to be to scream to the country the Dims are again the party of big spending and big government.
Oh, no, that was a totally DIFFERENT "rescue" package. That was a vote for funds to bail out "troubled assets", which to the best of anybody's knowledge, were never applied to that purpose. THIS "rescue" is a mortgage on the future of the US, in the headlong rush to commit to a form of government that will be SO much better than the paradise that is Cuba.
You may have purchased your last new automobile.
“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says the country and the world will suffer if Congress fails to act.”
Well, then Dingy — get it on the floor for a vote and live with the results, chickensh*t.
over one million dollars per day since the birth of Christ!!!
The GOP needs to use that description over and over and over...
because it's the only way to even START TO COMPREHEND a number that big!!!
I gotta give McCain his due props... this time.
60% of the time, McCain is pretty good, in spite of the other 40% where his synapses misfire or he repeats Marxist dogma he heard once.
The country has already suffered enough from Congress's actions.
I expect Voinobitch to vote for it. With tears in his eyes.
KILL IT!

Shut your Piehole!
That’s right! You tell ‘em. McCain ran a brilliant campaign. That bad ‘ole Bush. He oughta be ashamed for what he done.
Tears of joy... LOL
...and nobody follows a loser ANYTIME.
That was McNutt's problem, he was a loser before he lost.
Is he crossing the isle now, and pretending he's a Republican?
It’s really weird how the more they “trim” this porker, the larger the dollar amount gets. I guess it’s one of those “new direction” things.
Yep. He’s now conducted TWO (2) bad national campaigns.
Er, I wouldn't just call him "bad"...he was incompetently bad!
If McCain is opposing the new stimulus, then he should be applauded, not derided. What's done is done and unfortunately we can't go back in time.
That's right, genius! If you'd care to review the news and polls before Bush announced his "Cry-sus" with yes-man Paulson at his side, you'd discovered that the McCain/Palin ticket was ahead on all counts. The ticket then became "McBush" "Continuation of Bush's third term," etc. No campaign can be successful with a lead weight in the form of GWB tied to its heels.
My last new auto was a 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid. In 2008, I added 6 new motorcycles to my household. I paid cash for all but one. Those are my fair weather transportation. My 1999 F150 was purchased used with 22500 miles in August 2003. I just crossed the 30,000 mile mark in Dec 2008. It's going to last a long time. I need the 4x4 trucks for winter driving. They also serve to haul goods from shopping trips. Other than that, I plan to enjoy traveling on two wheels again. The summer "joy rides" will be on 2 wheels.
Anyone need a little cheering up today?

Here’s to the new boss, same as the old boss..LOL!
Sorry. I forgot a sarcasm tag....
That was when the country and the Republicans were told we faced economic collapse if we didn't do the bail-out. We were told how it would hit Main Street. Well, we see how well that worked out becusae here we are on Main Street anyway. The Republicans learned a hard lesson from that B.S. -- that's why no one is going for the sky-is-falling approach obama is now using.

You can bet if it was to his political advantage McCain would be "bipartisan" on this.
So now you are a member of the blame Bush crowd. Good for you.
McCain did everything he could to disavow himself from Bush. I dont seem to remember Bush hitting the stump for him.
McCain did himself in by his history of backshooting Conservative values. He wasnt submarined by Bush, he was done in by his weak-kneed, Liberal leanings. He POd the Conservative base by his action in the base. And the funny part is he isnt sorry he did it. Honestly, would McCain have gotten any votes from conservatives if he didnt name Palin as his VP pick. Would you have voted for him if he named someone like Ridge or Lieberman. Maybe you would, but a lot of die hard Conservative would have stayed home.
The only thing he did good was bringing Palin to the stage.
IT IS TIME FOR A FILIBUSTER!! These are the wobbly Republicans. We have had issues with reaching some of their offices, so we recommend faxes and phone calls to their state offices. That information is at the bottom of the page. Now is not the time to grow weary. We are making a difference. If you heard President Obama's speech last night or Harry Reid's from the Senate floor, you know we are VERY close to shutting this thing down. Please do what ever you can to bring about the demise of this bill.

The problem is that McCain is not opposing the stimulus, period- just the version that doesn’t match his “fiscal hawk” spending image. He’s playing a charade. I deride McCain because he’s not trustworthy. Whatever he is cooking with senate democrats as an alternative is guaranteed to be a watered down liberal spiced stew, plus he’s a damned hypocrite for screaming about how full of pork this bill is after he pushed and voted for the POS bailout that Bush signed into law last year.
What an idiot. If the plan actually had the 4 million jobs he promised it might have actually passed. They want to spend more than a trillion dollars on this piece of crap. Just cut every American family a $20,000 check to spend and call it a day.
