Another five horses lost their tails to thieves Wednesday night, just a week after someone made off with the tails of three Belgian horses, neighbors in Parker's horse country said today.
The motive might be financial horse hair is used for hat bands, hair and tail extensions, violin bows and the like but otherwise it makes no sense at all, say frustrated neighbors.
Horse thievery used to be a hanging offense, and these neighbors wouldn't mind some old-fashioned western justice at least some jail time for those who stole the horses' tails.
"I can't imagine why anyone would do something like this, or what they would do with the hair," said Tom Johnson, who co-owns Happy Trails Horse Drawn Rides in Parker.
He awoke last Thursday morning to find that three of his Belgian horses were without tails.
Prince, the 11-year-old, lost 30 inches of tail, and it will probably be 10 years before it all grows back, Johnson said.

This is unbelievable!
Tails or hair from the tails?
What a shame...
I sure hope they catch the lowdown varmints.
Eventually the perp will be found with a caved in skull.
The photo looks like hair from the tails.
Yikes....I remember the cattle mutilations...wasn’t the in the Parker area, as well.
I love it.
So how ELSE am I supposed to make fly-swatters to sell at local flea markets?
;^)
This should make it easier for me to bet my money on the bob-tail nag, shouldn’t it?
Obama did it!
No he is just the horses a$$.
Fiddlesticks!

Thanks, reminds me of one of my favorite moo-vies........Rat Race.
Note to the horse owners who had their horse’s tail hair cut off:
There is a product that stimulates the growth of tail and mane hair, and other areas where a scrape or a scar may have caused a loss of hair.
It is made by a company called Shapley’s in Ft Myers, Florida 33908 1-239-415-2275
It is called : M-T-G, which stands for
Mane-Tail-Grooming.
It is a liquid, which separates when standing for any time.
Shake, squirt onto the dock of the tail, and massage into the tail that is remaining. Repeat 2 times a week. DO NOT rinse out.
If you wash your horse for a show or something, then re-apply. It smells a little like sulfur, but it makes your own hands soft, also.
I have 6 horses, and one of them has gotten into mischief more than once. Rubbed out about 6” width of his mane a few years back, and this stuff had it grown out to 8 inches in less than 6 months.
Same horse is trying to grow back tail hair that a weanling decided to eat. That is working, also, but I braided a “fly-swatting” tail made out of hay bale strings into his tail, until the hair catches up. Baby managed that in less than 2 days!!
Lots of horse catalog companies carry this product: Horse Health has it in 32 oz bottle- quart- for less than $20/bottle.
Same product works for fungus, rain rot, summer itch, girth itch, tail rubbing in summer, and fetlock dermatitis-commonly called ‘scratches’.
I have personally used it for over 5 years, and I think highly of it.
