Obama stimulus house parties aren't much of a draw
McClatchy Newspapers ^ | February 6, 2009 | Frank Greve

Few supporters are answering President Barack Obama's call for nationwide house-party gatherings this weekend to build grass-roots support for his economic stimulus plan.

A McClatchy survey of sign-up rosters for a score of cities across the country revealed only 34 committed attendees in Tacoma, Wash. , as of midafternoon Friday; in Fort Worth, Texas , only 54, and in Sacramento, Calif. , just 78.

"Before the election, we would have had 500 to 800," said Kim Mack , 46, a Sacramento city-facility manager who's hosted house parties for political figures and causes since the mid-'90s.

Even in Washington , policy-wonk capital of the nation, only about 500 people had signed up.

Damien LaVera , a spokesman for the Democratic National Committee , called the interest level "considerable" for what he described as "the first national call to action aimed at helping to keep people informed and active in advancing the president's agenda."

Obama the candidate used house parties to recruit volunteers and raise money with great success, but this is the first time that a president has tried to mold his supporters into a post-election lobbying force.

It promises to be an uphill battle, several supporters said.

Right. Spend money on house parties in dire, depression-era times. Ooh look over there, the lofty dem retreat house!

If I were smart, I would have had one... then unloaded with Nancy charts (after locking them in and the exorcisms).

I would rather have my wisdom teeth removed again than go to one of those “parties.” An indoctrination session is an indoctrination session, regardless of what it is labeled.

“Mack, the house-party proponent from Sacramento , said that comparing the pre-election turnout to the upcoming one was unfair.

Obama campaign house-party meetings were “truly about something that united everybody,” Mack said. “This weekend, what we’re talking about is the economy, and some people just don’t want to be involved in that. Their issue is health care or climate change or getting out of Iraq .”

ROTFLOL..doesn’t that pretty much say it all? The economy TRULY should UNITE us all...but libtards are chasing the unicorns and butterflys Obama promised them all....lol

“I’m debating if I should start a 401k or not...”

You probably better off just buying gold and silver.

You can buy silver direct from a mining company and support their jobs.

You are young I suppose. It is a tough choice. If you believe Obama-style socialism will prevail, then you should not. The reason is that if you are successful, you will pay taxes out at a higher rate on your account than you would pay now. If I were starting now, I would not defer taxes.

However, I am a pessimist.

Do it, especially if your employer matches. This won’t last forever. Jimmy Carter found that out. We’ll be back.

A Denver news channel is just reporting that there were stimulus parties all over Colorado. People were shown gushing over the passing of it. I am sick to my stomach over this.

I have no doubt that some of these house parties will end up as some kind of fund raisers for either obama or the dimaratic party...as illegal as they will be. And when they are caught, there will be no presiding legal authority.

If your employer provides matching funds, then you’re missing out on the matching funds and you’re also missing out on starting at an early age if you’re young. You don’t have to invest in the stock market, hopefully your employer offers enough choices.

"Keep campaigning but never govern. Anyway the welfare and pork bill has passed. Now Obama and the democrats own this disaster."

The GOP must hit home with the message: "Additional bailout proposals are an admission of Dem failure."

Because there *will* be Dem cries for more spending. We need to finally get in front of an issue.

Shaking my head again. If I were to have a house party it wouldn't be to support 0. If it were summer time I would be glad to have a BBQ to talk about how we could get rid of him. Can you imagine all of Joe's friends around my pool mad at 0? lmao.

BTW: This House Party thing—this is the Maoist brainstorm of William Ayers. Mao deliberately shattered the traditional social structure of China by forcing people into these neighborhood groups—each group having a soldier, a shopkeeper, a housewife, etc.

Now that you’re president, Obama, people expect results. Why would anyone waste their time throwing a house party that accomplishes nothing?

Stop campaigning and do some work!

Yep. These are also a way for the neighborhood aunties to find out upon whom they should keep the beadiest eye. Maoists will cheerfully destroy anyone, even their own supporters, in the quest for total control.

Most Americans are not joiners, these days. I think everyone already on their lists who doesn’t show for these house parties will be getting visits from their new best friends.

C’mon now, all the dimwits who voted this clown in aren’t interested in actually DOING anything. That’s boring.

In fact, Obumble himself isn’t interested in doing anything—just basking in unwarranted adulation, wearing fancy clothes, and running his mouth.

Of course, if he can dismantle and undermine this country and Western Civilization (Remember Jessuh Jackson’s slogan “Hey Hey Ho Ho, Western Culture’s Gotta Go”?) while enjoying the fruits of that culture (Ya gotta admit Air Force One beats how they get around in rural Kenya!) that’s a bonus
