Obama to take his plan to the people
Financial Times ^ | Feb 7, 2009 | Andrew Ward and Alan Beattie

Posted on 02/06/2009 9:02:27 PM PST by BAW

Barack Obama will make the case for his economic recovery plans direct to the American people next week with campaign-style roadshows in states hard-hit by the economic downturn.

Mr Obama’s travel plans were announced on Friday before Senate Democrats and moderate Republicans reached a tentative agreement on a $780bn fiscal stimulus plan and ahead of the Treasury department’s expected announcement of a fresh financial rescue package on Monday.

Mr Obama will hold town hall-style meetings in Indiana on Monday, and Florida on Tuesday, in his first public events outside Washington since taking office.

The president will conduct his first White House press conference on Monday evening as he adopts an increasingly combative approach to selling his plans in the face of persistent Republican opposition.

Democratic leaders hoped to pass the Senate stimulus last night or over the weekend. Further negotiations will be needed to agree on final legislation with the House of Representatives before it can be signed into law by Mr Obama.

The White House faces another tough battle to win support for the financial package due for announcement on Monday, including an overhaul of the troubled asset relief programme and measures to clean up “toxic assets” on Wall Street.

Next week’s public relations blitz reflects some concern within the administration that Republicans have been winning the message war with their calls for more tax cuts and less spending in the stimulus.

Heard it would be Fort Myers, FL. Don't know about Indiana. Good places for opposition protests.

I like that the Repubs, even though we lose the vote, might win the PR campaign.

The welfare and pork bill passed. Why is he still taking it to the people? What is his fear? That he now owns this disaster?

By the time he gets through with set-up Town Halls, he will probably not hold another one.

I remember the Town Hall by the three stooges at Ohio State — Cohen, Burger and Albright who got their heads handed to them. They tried to stack the Town Hall but it didn’t work.

Anyone near these Town Halls need to protest and yell as loud as you can at Obama because he won’t be able to take it with his thin skin.

Funny how they want to vote on Sunday on the package but he is campaigning next week. American people are catching on to Obama it seems the way they talked about the numerous calls they are getting against the package.

Gee, SNL on Monday night … can’t wait. He will endear me even more by jumping into the middle of my Monday night TV viewing. Why can’t he just make it a memo to be printed in the NYTs? Between his TV speeches every other day and his press secretary every day … saturation point has been reached. Obama, STHU!

Our OK RAT Governor is supporting the stimulus package when about 80% of our State are against it, but then he is on knee pads for Obama.

For petes sake the campaign is over. Lock yourself in your office and do some fing work. Of course, he will never do this because he doesn’t have a freaking clue what an executive/leader is supposed to do.

He thinks if he uses his hypnotism techniques like he did on the campaign trail when he got them to vote for him it will make them all support him on the porkulus, lets see how many sheeple actually turn out now that his approval rating has dropped to 38% as of today. Hopefully it will be more protesters than supporters.

Why doesn't he call up his pals at MTV and just make a music video with a bunch of his thug rapper pals?

This man's ineptitude grows more painfully obvious every day. This is only the start, he will pull this stuff for the rest of his administration, with Nazi-like gatherings of "Obama youth" like those kids in berets who pledged their allegiance to Obama.

I’m with you on that, but even if they actually do have the votes here, which they probably do, it has to go back to the House and will change again and have to go back to the Senate. The whole thing isn’t over yet.

Since the day after the election, I’ve been saying that the Repubs should vote for cloture, but not vote for the bill, let it pass, and hang it around their necks like a flaming tire.

just an observation....

who thinks here that Rudy would have ruined our country in the past 17 days?

If you do you are smoking weed imo..

Sorry to be blunt but really...

would Rudy have dropped charges on a terrorist?

Would he have sent executive orders thru recinding bush's?

Would he be pushing thru a stimulous package beyond all realms?

The answer is no!

Mitt Romney be doing this? NO!

The answer my friends, is that those closed minded here to certain candidates got MCCain, who on a good day, can't seem to muster the balls to get it done for us!

Our primary was flawed!

You see, there are those who are our way or the highway crowd, then those of us who see that good can be done, even though we might not agree with all the positions of candidates.

I would love to have someone who believes in everything I believe in elected to office.. but I am a realist and you try and get the best of what you believe but concede to what is good!

By all the fighting here in the past 2 years, we got the worst!

Can we not try and get the best of all worlds, fiscal and social in the future!

You are absolutely correct. I will add, Rudy would not have signed the Mexico City act, either... and wouldn’t be pushing for our Census to be brought into the White House where they can manipulate it to keep democrats in office everywhere forever.... there is so much that has happened in 17 days that I KNOW he would not have done because like all of us he loves this country and HE remembers 911...he lived it~

Obama to take his plan to the people

"His" plan? "His" plan?

Nupe.

Surely, everyone must now realize that Marxist Obama is not into, you know, "details".

In his entire life, he's never accomplished anything truly of note.

He avoids the press (even Obama true-believers) and uses a teleprompter more than any other 10 politicians.

He doesn't even know the details in his own executive orders

Obama has no plans.

Obama reads plans on teleprompters.

Big diff.

.

I think that we should adopt old Vietnam War style protests, start local and build to a big DC protest. We could use John Thune’s proposal as our alternative. No one would oppose it.
Start with local news papers, go to their web sites and ask the question, what are you getting from Obama’s spending plan? Which would you rather have, the $5,143 per tax filer, or the debt produced by the Obama plan?

you betcha!

That is my point.. We can wish for the most honorable candidate, but there is a time when we have to think of all the good they can do, and not just the BS that gets spouted on forums!

This gave us the marxist!!!!

Actually anyone, but McCain and Huckabee, would have kept us on an even foot,

But Rudy would have least kept us safe from terrorist, if nothing else.

Although, I think he would have actually surprised the neocons here ;)
