Newt: Obama speech was Carter-like
Politico ^ | Feb. 6, 2009 | PATRICK GAVIN

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich issued a sharp critique of President Barack Obama's speech before House Democrats in Williamsburg, Va.

"It shrinks his presidency," said Gingrich Friday at the American Enterprise Institute. "I thought last night's speech in Williamsburg actually was a lot more like Carter and a long way from Reagan."

The former Speaker's remarks referred to the more partisan tone adopted by Obama Thursday evening in addressing Republican objections to the stimulus package and to the President's assertion that critics want to return to "the same policies that for the last eight years doubled the national debt and threw our economy into a tailspin."

Gingrich said that the debate over President Obama's stimulus package has put a spring in the GOP's step.

"What has happened in the past two weeks has absolutely revitalized the Republican base in this country, because they looked up and saw all of the House Republicans collectively having the guts to vote no and thought 'Finally we're back.' And overnight, it changed the tone of the Republican Party."

I'm just surprised that men as smart as our Republican leadership and spokesmen are supposed to be, are surprised. Did they really believe that this man ever intended to anything in a bipartisan fashion? Be the president for all Americans? Did they not even catch a clue when he stated "I won"?

It was partisan and authoritarian and intimidating. Perhaps the American people need factual persuasion.....given the honest facts of a situation Americans have never chosen the wrong path. In this case my “little voice” keeps saying why are we doing this?

If we wanted to get rid of what put the country in a tailspin we would need to dump Barney Fife Franks and Chuck the Schmuck Schumer,.

I think it is the height of ignorance for him to speak of doubling the National debt when he is begging, cajoling, and threatening to place us in debt for a trillion dollars less than a month after taking office.

Obama does not care what he does because he feels invincible now. He knows he is safe no matter what stupid mistakes he makes, and that a stupid statement like "I screwed up," will get him a pass with the press. There is a huge faction of politicians and media who will not do/say anything to jeopardize the image of the "savior" they promoted to POTUS because they are afraid of retaliations from the African/American community. Obama will never be strongly criticized by the press let alone be impeached because of their fear of what the consequences might be. He will control the media and the Dems just like he did during his campaigning - and he will whine and try to shut up any critics like he is doing about Rush.

We are stuck with this self-promoting, arrogant ninny who will drive our country's economy down, ruin business growth, and put our nation in serious peril from our enemies. All we can hope is that the GOP will get and stay strongly united against him, listen to their constituency for a change, and block any proposals he makes that they can and constantly give him a hard time for the next four years.

Who cares if it is said (by Obama or anyone else) that the Republicans are "partisan," if they are trying to save the nation from ruin.

Exactly.

Look at all these people who are asking us to sacrifice.

Millionaires. And those who aren't, are people in pretty much tenured positions with outstanding benefits.

They don't feel the same things we do. How can we expect them to do the right thing?

They say they understand how their constituents feel. They will never understand until they are forced to scrape out a living like we do every day.

If it isn't revolution, it is certainly time to seriously push for term limits — which means, at some point, these aholes have to live under the rules that they subject the rest of us to.

Obama knows this isn’t going to stimulate the economy, this bill is a power grab for the democratic party and he is being aided and abetted by COllins and Specter. I want to know what they were promised.

Between Nazi Pelosi keeping the Republicans out the bill making and Obozo’s still in campaign mode, it has
McCain and Lindsey Graham sounding like Jim DeMint and Sarah Palin
You know the Dems have pis*** off these guys.
