You Try to Live on 500K in This Town (Obama's war on NYC wealth)
NY Times ^ | 2/6/09 | ALLEN SALKIN

PRIVATE school: $32,000 a year per student.

Mortgage: $96,000 a year.

Co-op maintenance fee: $96,000 a year.

Nanny: $45,000 a year.

We are already at $269,000, and we haven’t even gotten to taxes yet.

Five hundred thousand dollars — the amount President Obama wants to set as the top pay for banking executives whose firms accept government bailout money — seems like a lot, and it is a lot. To many people in many places, it is a princely sum to live on. But in the neighborhoods of New York City and its suburban enclaves where successful bankers live, half a million a year can go very fast.

Yep. NYC - or any major city - is ridiculously expensive to live in.

P.S. Our school superintendent makes about $400,000 and it's a crappy little city.

Get out the crying towel! Call out the Whaaaaaaambulance!

Nobody held a gun to their heads and forced them to be MONEY LOSING BANKERS!

(Crikey! How do you LOSE MONEY running a BANK???? You borrow money for cheap, you lend it out at a premium. In addition, you charge for every single transaction, so that all of your expenses are fully recovered — and then some! — nope, I can’t see it. It is impossible to lose money running a bank. ‘Strewth!, yet these Geniuses have!!!)

A whole passel of these guys that are going to have trouble living on $500k in NYC just voted for Zero. More than a few of them are life-long liberals.

F'em. If you're so good at making money, how come you're not any good at figuring out how to cast a vote?

When hollywood studios as for a bailout I'm all for it. Free enterprise means you get to make what you want. The minute you want socialist pork you should have to live with the rest of the lumpenproles on the commune.

Hollywood studios are getting a tax break especially for them in this porkulus bill. So that means their salaries should be limited.
Plus..GE..they should not be paying big star salaries with Govt money.

$125 to $250 to tutor kids?? Geeze, I got my kids into college (real college) prior to age 15 and I didn’t pay anyone a dime. But I did make a point of teaching my kids reading and math when they were young.

There have got to be people willing to tutor for a bit under $125 per hour. It’s not very hard to do.
