Jim Webb: “speak with a staffer line” busy signal all weekend and still busy; voice-mailbox full. No response to emails.
I'll wager that this AM finds no small number of Senators more than a little unnerved by this pre-vote backlash: it is no longer just a matter of "How do I vote?" It has become, "But then what happens?"
There is a lot of chatter from both the White House and the Hill about how much "People are hurting." D@mn right they are. They have been for some time. What they do not say is "People are scared," and, "People are angry." They have good reason for not doing so.
Hurt + scared + angry = not good for anyone, and way beyond not good for America. Cause those hurt, scared, and angry people to feel that they have been sold out or betrayed by the people they elected to represent them and they soon begin to believe they have nothing left to lose. The equation then becomes: hurt + scared + angry + nothing to lose = I start to feel sick. :(
In a nutshell, the legislators know full well that they are saddled with a president who bought his office by promising their constituents a free lunch. They also know that things gets ugly when those free-lunchers realize that they are stuck with the bill for the dinner party he hosted in his honor on their behalf. This piece of legislation is that check. The president has handed this check, this "bill," to the legislators and told them to pass it on down to the American People. This is insanity, and the legislative branch now stands at a critical juncture. In them, like the other two branches, the Founding Fathers entrusted the power of "checks and balances," the means by which to stop the madness of a runaway branch. They represent our last hope--if not us--and they need to be reminded of this.
KEEP BANGING ON THE DOORS! KEEP CALLING! KEEP EMAILING!
Get a friend, family member and a coworker to do the same, and then get each of them to do the same. There is just too much at stake for any of us to shrug, throw up our hands and say, "Oh well this is just too big for someone like little old me to do anything about it."
“Just because the message may not be received makes sending it no less important.”
Freepers ~ Burn up the phone lines! You can get through on the non-DC numbers!

Call
The National Republican Senatorial Committee
425 2nd Street NE
Washington, DC 20002
Telephone: (202) 675-6000
Tell them they will never get another dime unless they cut off Snow, Spector, and Collins!!
Call John Cornyns office he is the chair of the committee!!
Update:
I just got off the phone with a woman from the committee and she said the committees funds would be used to support Senatorial Candidates who are up in 2010 which includes Spector (Snowe and Collins arent up for re-election until 2012.) I told her that I wouldnt be contributing if my funds would be used to support the re-election of Spector, and to take me off their mailing list.
BTW: Should told me the committees official position was that of their chairman John Conryn and that he is opposed to the stimulus.
Ping for your lists!
That’s really good and pretty close to what I wrote this morning. I included that I was offended that the prez gave hamas $20 mil during this crisis, while the UN was holding back monetary support. I couldn’t help myself.
Side note: love your screen name, cracked me up :)
Thank you for the Ping, Sister Faith, and the Post, Hoosiermama. I’ll be Praying, and will also Contact my Senators.
This guys own words, the last bailout wasn’t to help the economy it was to help the banks. This guys is a pure idiot

Well said... I also asked our senator to encourage the 3 senators who are leaning toward voting for it to not vote for it. United we Stand!
Here’s a “I requested tax cuts , more time for reseaching a better bill and no pork barrel politics” bump!!
Thanks for the link, am reading now!
Over the weekend I took the opportunity to reflect on the stimulus bill not as a passionate partisan but tried to put myself in the mind of an apolitical man or woman of average IQ who knows that Obama is now the President, that they still blame Bush for what ails America (the fires of resentment stoked even higher by the MSM)including rewarding failed fat cats by passing TARP in October and are told or feel personally (loss of job or on investments)that the economy is in the tank and that whatever Obama says or does cannot be any worse than George Bush and the Republicans did.
Let’s face it Freeper’s we are mostly preaching to the choir. We know that we fight for a righteous cause but seriously is the nebulous person I have just spoke of not justified in thinking or feeling this way?
That the conservative movement, the Republican party and the future of American capitalism has been insidiously brought to its knees is not the fault of Free Republic, Hot Air, Pajamas Media, Townhall.com or the countless thousands of conservative columnists or right-wing bloggers who participate on the world wide web. This phenomenon was not brought about through an error of commission but rather it has been an error of OMISSION or negligence.
Rather it is the fault of the:
1) the many federal GOP politicians over the last 40 years who neglected to tell the American people what they or the GOP should have stood for and why they stood for conservatism instead of being ashamed of it; instead they focused more on the prudent stewardship of government (my set of elitists are more intelligent and qualified than your set of elitists)or protection from foreign enemies (fearmongering)rather than on the merits of the conservative ideology vs. the liberal-socialist emotional tirades ‘that something has to be done’ or ‘solutions must come from government intervention’.
2)The GOP and the conservative movement did not try hard enough to thwart the power of institutional education (public schools and colleges and their boards and the teachers and professors themselves)to brainwash students to the socialist way of thinking about solving problems and even as important brand those who contradicted the ‘dogma’ of these educators as old-fashioned, out-of-step, wrongheaded, purveyors of death and destruction, religious fanatics or had an agenda to exploit and opppress those millions with no access to power
3)The GOP has been extremely reluctant to take on the MSM and Hollywood and even more important has not understood the power of the MSM or Hollywood to shape viewpoints, marginalize loyalities, and to legitimize Obama and ‘socialism’. Not everybody has the time read right-wing blogs or become more aware of the issues; the greater majority of Americans are not of the elite pedigree; they rely on the MSM and popular Hollywood movies to keep them ‘informed’.
4)George Bush did so much to bring about Obama but one overlooked part of Geroge Bush is that he was not able to communicate why he felt the way he did and felt it was below his dignity to strike back against the Democrats and the MSM while they viciously attacked him every day on a 24/7 basis. If there is one thing the GOP must realize that whoever their standardbearer is in 2012 must be a communicator even if that person has some deficiencies in areas of policy. Conservatives and Republicans can no longer abdicate its proficiency to communicate over the air waves. John McCain has the same deficiency as Bush.
5)The GOP, by permitting crossover voting, allowed McCain to be nominated although he was not supported by the majority of the party. That’s like a banker making a loan to a high-risk borrower against the advice of 2/3 of his Board of Directors. There is clearly an enthusiasm deficit present in both cases.
In conclusion I believe passionate conservatives should spend more time, energy, and money to reach out to new potential converts rather than to stay on course and primarily preach to the choir. Sure the latter is more comfortable but whatever solace we derive in the short term will not endure if we do not strive to enlarge the tent and explain why conservatism preserves America and why socialism will destroy America.
Let me leave you with 2 quotes that really says it all:
1)from the minseries North and South-George Hazzard of the North is at a train depot waiting for the train with his friend from the South, Orry Main to take him back to the South at the brink of the Civil war. Here is portions of their dialogue:
Orry: “George, can you see anything we could have done to stop all this?”
George: “I don’t know...I think we had our chance somewhere along the line and we missed it...”
Orry: “Or threw it away.”
from Daniel Webster:
... ‘our destruction...should it come at all...from the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from the CARELESSNESS and NEGLIGENCE...I fear they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct, that in this way they may be made THE DUPES OF DESIGNING MEN AND BECOME THE INSTRUMENTS OF THEIR UNDOING.”
Can we get a ping to the Indiana list here, thanks.
