Victor Davis Hanson: Eighteen Days of Hope and Change? [Was it all about power, after all?..]
NRO ^ | February 09, 2009 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 02/09/2009 9:55:52 AM PST by Tolik

Was it all about power, after all—the furious Hollywood outbursts, novels, and films about killing Bush, and the Kerry-Kennedy-Reid-Pelosi-Durbin sermons on morality and ethics?

Was Obamania not about oceans receding and the planet cooling, not about vero possumus, or the Victory Column and a faux-Parthenon ushering in a sort-of-Virgilian new age?

Instead, though Bush-Hitler supposedly used to demonize his opponents as un-American, we get silence as Obama now dubs those who jump the Republican ship to vote for his trillion-dollar package as "patriotic" in the way that those who will be willing to pay Joe Biden's new higher taxes are—patriotic? And "The Decider" simply morphed into "I won"; and we went from Duke Cunningham and Larry Craig without a blink to Charles Rangel cheating on his taxes, and Dodd/Frank getting low-interest loans or a great job for a partner, as they took money from Freddie/Fannie and ensured they could implode without restraint? Was that all hope-and-change was about?

And in two weeks we went from the highest ethical standards in history to Richardson and Daschle pulling out for probable violations of the law and the new treasury secretary and de facto head of the IRS cheating on his taxes? And the secretary of labor suddenly paying off liens and lobbying for labor organizations? And ten-plus lobbyists appointed to a new no-lobbyist government? And when Hollywood used to give us movies like Rendition, and rants about Bush shredding the Constitution, what did hope-and-change give us? More FISA, the Patriotic Act, rendition, Iraq, and another year at least of Guantanamo—all now as necessary and legitimate as it once was Hitlerian. And after eight years of "Bush is trying to terrify us" we are told that anyone not voting for a new trillion dollars of debts is ushering in catastrophe, and without sudden change California will have no farms, no agriculture even. And for the incompetent, deer-in-the-headlights Scott McClellan, we got—incompetent, deer-in-the-headlights Robert Gibbs? Was that all hope-and-change was?

Was that all hope-and-change was?

Certainly not. There is also the Marxism, with its associated effort to silence dissent.

YES, its all about power.

It was never clearer when  House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn said about prospects of a surge success in Iraq: He said that a positive report by Gen. David Petraeus in September 2007 will be "a real big problem for us" (link

us here was Dems and not US.

MSM let it slide, of course, and only talk radio and conservative bloggers reported it. But it can't be more honest and cynical then that: success of the country does not matter - success of the party does.

“...success of the country does not matter - success of the party does.”

####

And those are mutually exclusive, when it comes to the race and class warfare driven Socialists referred to in error as “The Democrat Party”.

They are at full-scale war on all fronts against the values and institutions that made, and defined America.

It comes from the belief that their vision of America is so much better than conservatives’ that any means achieving it are OK.

I am 100% sure that it would’ve been no anti-war movement to speak about if it was President Gore who lead the action in Afghanistan and Iraq.

This is very different from a responsible conservative behavior that while opposes Obama’s socialist ideas WILL support him in other areas, like victory in Afghanistan, for example.

It is becoming crystal clear now, barely two weeks into Obama’s reign (and I use that word advisedly), that he is everything we feared and more. The media, liberals, and weak-willed Republicans may find it distasteful to point out the now glaring truth, or may just want to wish it all away, but the reality is that Obama is nothing more than a wanna-be dictator.

In only two weeks, my own opinion has shifted from “he’s just pathetically naive yet supremely arrogant” to “he’s a marxist dictator and the leader of a group of fellow travelers who collectively represent the greatest threat ever faced by the United States.” Make no mistake about it, we are in real danger because of this guy.

In only two weeks he has:

- pushed through a catastrophic “stimulus” bill
- spoken openly about further nationalizing the U.S. economy
- had a parade of nominees who were each discovered to be ethically-challenged at best, and outright dishonest at worst
- used his first opportunity to speak to the world to address our enemies, rather than our allies (during which he virtually groveled before the muslim press)
- enboldened Iran to make obscene demands of us before they will “sit down and talk” with Obama
- ordered the Justice Department to drop all charges against the mastermind of the USS Cole bombing
- ordered the closure of the Guantanamo Bay terrorist prison
- spoke (though not covered by the so-called MSM) of reducing the U.S.’s nuclear arsenal by 80%, on the way to his eventual goal of eliminating all nuclear weapons - a terrifyingly foolish and suicidal notion
- ordered that the 2010 census be administered by the White House, specifically by Rahm Emmanuel
- and I’m sure I’ve forgotten others (TWO WEEKS, remember, it’s only been TWO WEEKS!)

During just a single day, the Iranians verbally spat in our faces then launched a satellite into orbit (anyone remember why we were so worried about Sputnik in the 1950’s?), North Korea announced a long-range missile test, and Russia rattled a whole armory full of sabers. Obama’s going to “change” our status in the world? Yeah, maybe by facilitating our extinction. Idiot liberals.

"Was Obamania not about oceans receding and the planet cooling, not about vero possumus, or the Victory Column and a faux-Parthenon ushering in a sort-of-Virgilian new age?"

Isn't Virgil banned as a Dead White Western Male by the NEA?

"and the Kerry-Kennedy-Reid-Pelosi-Durbin sermons on morality and ethics?"

Someone should compile an annotated volume of their speeches and press conference statements. Maybe The Onion?

There’s lots more to come. The WH is taking over the census to gerrymander districts like we’ve never seen before. Look for HUGE minority increases in Congress, guaranteed to vote for even bigger floods of cash to minorities and illegals.

We are truly doomed. And that is NOT “JK.” There’s no knight on the horizon to save us and we have at least two generations dumbed down and “educated” in government run indoctrination centers in the evils of the US, democracy and capitalism.
