| Tennessee: Memphis News Site Publishes Tennessee Concealed Carry Permit Holder List |
| Thursday, February 12, 2009 |
Call CommercialAppeal.com today and urge them to remove this intrusion on personal information!
A Memphis based online news website, CommercialAppeal.com, has posted Tennessees right to carry permit holder list online! CommercialAppeal.com apparently feels that the publics right to know outweighs your right to privacy. Their irresponsible decision to publish this list has made it easier for criminals to target law-abiding gun owners.
Shockingly when the list was first published, it even included permit holders home address! However, bowing to criticism, CommercialAppeal.com removed the address but still included a permit holders full name, birth date, city, zip code, and the issue and expiration date of their permit... |

Just print the names/address of the publisher and editors. Fair is fair.
Yeah, go figure.
“Their irresponsible decision to publish this list has made it easier for criminals to target law-abiding gun owners.”
Criminals and community organizers.
Names and addresses of everyone working for this newspaper need to be posted.
A gun-rights group should obtain a list of all the local members (including the newspaper staff) of gun-control activists and publish that list of names and addresses as a notice of locations with safe working conditions for burglars and home invaders.
“Just print the names/address of the publisher and editors. Fair is fair.”
Don’t forget to publish an easy to follow map as well.
A news station in FL did this last year, irresponsible as heck!
The phone # is under the logo. I just called them. Good Lord, what are they thinking? God have mercy.
JOSEPH PEPE, PRESIDENT AND PUBLISHER 901-529-2205
Good idea. They're publishing the names and addresses of people who practice the second amendment, it's only fair to publish the names and addresses of those who practice the first amendment.
He proably lives in Mississippi. Taxes are cheaper.
I am not sure that I would mind being on the list. Burglars do not want to go to a house where they know they would be shot.
Incredible breach of privacy!
Done.

He’s a moonbat. I doubt he pays taxes.
Let’s post the information for all welfare recipients in Memphis. When their last job was, how many job applications they have sent out, what kind of benefits they are recieving.
Yeah, but the response to these idiots was to publish any public available information for the station GM, reporter. Mortgage information, property tax records, etc.
Someone already checked and no member of the Commercial Appeal staff is listed as a permit holder. However, I checked my own name and I should be on there...but I am not. So either the database is messed up or names have been selectively removed.

Now, we can all make some friendly phone calls and write some inquisitive letters. After all, we can't have Joe Six-Pack exercising his 1st Amendment rights without some public input, can we?
Like most newspapers, the Commercial Appeal provides names and email for its publisher and top editors. See here.
How about their HOME address?
I just saved this list to print later, just in case your post gets removed.
I’d suggest letting them know that flyers are going to be made with this info and handed out or put in an ad for all to see. It is the publics right to know, isn’t it? LOL!!
Most every person I know, even casually, has a concealed carry permit. Both dems and reps. A significant number of those have arsenals of their very own.
“Their irresponsible decision to publish this list has made it easier for criminals to target law-abiding gun owners.
I think that should read law-abiding NON gun owners.
I ain’t gonna target a guy that is surely packing a Glock.
“I aint gonna target a guy that is surely packing a Glock.”
Course not. You watch his home and wait for him to leave, then break in and get his other guns and ammo. You got his name from the paper.
Nobody would tackle the guy directly if they knew he was armed. Well, maybe a sniper, attack from cover 75 m away then take his Glock and wallet. That’s unlikely, though.
Not being listed is not a guarantee that the home is unarmed, but being listed is a sure sign there are guns in the home.
Perhaps the online site needs to complete the job by listing all holders of permits from Florida, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, and New Hampshire. Otherwise, they will be missing my name and those in Tennessee who are so anxious to know who is carrying will be unaware that I would be carrying in their state.
Shouldn't it read "Rich People who don't have guns" ?
that’s the toss up.
will criminals avoid gun owners knowing they’re likely armed, or will criminals target them by hitting their houses while the gun owner is out, hoping to find more guns?
There - Fixed it.
Beat me by three minutes ;)
Post the list on the Memphis Tenn. Craig’s List.
As a career burglar I wish to thank you for making my job easier. Now whenever I find a likely house that might enhance my (ahem) net worth, I simply have to check the database to see if there are any firearms in the house. Thank you ever so much.
By the way, I notice that a certain person by the name of
Peck, Chris
21 Belleair Dr
Memphis, TN
38104
Is not on the list.
But just to make sure perhaps I will call 901-276-8314 just to make sure I do not have to use my own personal firearm which I have never bothered to register.
Bless you my friend
Criminals would be stupid to target people on the list . What they want to do is target home owners NOT on the list .
Have you ever been to Memphis? Not only do we have second most violent city in the country, but we are number ONE in STUPID criminals.
If I were looking to take a pistol and I were an amoral animal(like the fool who posted these names), I’d simply walk up to one of these guys on the list and crack him over the head with a rock, then I have his gun and he’s dead.
This is a shopping list for anyone looking to arm themselves and

needs to be held personally and directly responsible for any harm that comes to Tennessee CCW holders that can in ANY way be linked to his publishing this list.
plenty of logins to have a little fun on their site.

Second to Killadelphia?
What bothers me is many of these permit holders are businesspeople—jewelers, livestock dealers, car wholesalers, etc.—whose livelihood requires them to travel around with large amounts of cash or other valuables. Some small retailers got these permits because they drive to their banks after closing and drop their receipts in the night deposit box. One guy I know got a permit because he operated a liquor store that closed at 10 p.m. His bank was about 100 feet from the store. He would walk to the night deposit drop with a pistol in one hand and a bank bag in the other.
The Commercial Appeal is owned by E. W. Scripps Company. Scripps is headed for the dinosaur graveyard. Their stock (SSP on NYSE) closed today at 1.67. That's down from 49.26 last year. Scripps spun off their internet services and successful syndicated television programs into a seperate entity that will survive. Scripps has a handful of television stations they intend to sell off. They own 16 newspapers which right now they couldn't give away.
I thought about calling them, to ask if they would publish a list of known sex offenders in my city. Didn’t call though, as I am sure they would refuse, citing a desire to avoid invading the privacy of perverts. Yet they have no problem granting everyone access to personal information about law-abiding citizens.
At least they did a small favor for me. When I found myself on the list, seeing the expiration date reminded me that I need to renew soon.
Stay vigilant folks. These are dangerous times.
