Undocumented immigrants no longer will be able to receive medical care in Sacramento County clinics, two health clinics that serve the poor will close, and services with various mental health contractors will be terminated.
Those are a few of the deep cuts the Board of Supervisors approved Wednesday in an effort to close a $55 million general fund shortfall in the fiscal year ending June 30.
The supervisors approved $2.4 million in cuts to the Department of Health Services, and $3.8 million in cuts to the Mental Health Division.
"I didn't come back to work to do this," said Jim Hunt, the acting head of the Countywide Services Agency who has been filling in since Penelope Clarke retired at the end of December. "If we have to make reductions, sooner is better than later."
The board was generally united on the cuts, except for the move to stop providing medical care to undocumented immigrants at county clinics.
Supervisor Roger Dickinson warned that such a move would inevitably deny care to some people who qualified for it and lead to a higher societal cost as people get sicker and end up in emergency rooms.
"It seems to me that's counterproductive," Dickinson said.

“Undocumented immigrants no longer will be able to receive medical care in Sacramento County clinics”.....
Of course the idiot politicians wait til the last minute to cut the crap out!...It won’t help now!
This in California? Arnold won’t be happy.
Don’t get too excited about this. They still won’t turn away emergency room cases and if a little girl appears at emergency room..about to pop out an anchor baby..she will get a bed asap.
The only way they can avoid those problems is to close their emergency room.
I think the reality is that if the illegals can make it to the ER they will be treated. I don’t see much savings here. Better to stop them from getting here in the first place. Maybe this down turn will be good for something after all!
Why? Send them to their own country, or have them pay for the services with the money they usually send to Mexico
Supervisor Roger Dickinson warned that such a move would inevitably deny care to some people who qualified for it and lead to a higher societal cost as people get sicker and end up in emergency rooms.
If people that are not qualified for free care are denied, then those that have the means to pay will have no problem.
Well, Now they can recieve the benefits of the homeland they left. Please EXIT stage SOUTH!!
It is a good start.
The illegals in California are the silent budget devouring 1,000 pound hogs in every room where our budget is discussed.
Liberals don’t want to mention these incredible cost these millions of 1,000 pound hogs have on our economies from city to county to state and Nation.
Independents and Rinos with businesses that depend on illegals as customers and employees don’t want to discuss these budget destroying 1,000 hogs.
These millions of budget devouring 1,000 illegal hogs will continue to destroy this country more effectively than al Qaeda.
Wow, I thought they would cave to the ACLU.
Good for them.
"It seems to me that's counterproductive," Dickinson said.
A red herring argument spouted off without any data to back him up. By cutting off health benefits to illegals Sacramento is taking an important step to discourage illegals from living in Sacramento at all, thereby saving the citizens of Sacramento County other costs associated with illegal immigration - public education, welfare and food stamps, crime control, etc. This is a good first step, hopefully to be followed by many more.
Watch for a Federal Judge to overturn this!

No question------they are a national security threat that endangers all Americans.
They should be prosecuted as such.
It’s about freakin time! When they go around shooting each other up good they won’t get medical treatment. Maybe the will learn. HA HA that is a funny one.
Outstanding!!!!
Three cheers for Sacramento!!!
Let her pop on the street or in her overcrowded barrio.
Of course it will still be an American citizen no mater where she whelps.
Gold? Pfffft. I'm investing in these babies!
Thanks. Yeah, undocumented immigrants no longer will be able to receive medical care there, but neither will anyone else. What tics me off it that these places are having to CLOSE because they are being drained by illegal aliens, when they could be providing help to Americans in need. There ARE poor and disabled deserving Americans, like me, who need assistance and can’t get it because of ILLEGALS.
I was just reading an article by Tom Tancredo. He hit the nail on the head with this:
“Document by state audits and publicize the true taxpayer cost of all services provided to illegal aliens, including the services mandated by federal courts — health care, K-12 education, and all the benefits bestowed by “birthright citizenship” on the children of illegal aliens;”
I’d love to know the cost to my state being incurred LEGALLY by illegal alien families because of ANCHOR babies. Everything I read tosses, HIDES, this category into the “immigrant” category because the benefits are being provided legally. I truly believe that the birthright citizenship laws and the legal benefits they provide are just as big, if not bigger magnet for illegal aliens.
this also jumped out at me:
Supervisors will also consider changes to their vehicle fleet, which it is maintaining at a cost of $27 million a year.
The county has 2,940 vehicles in its light fleet, more than double the 1,430 the county had in 2001, according to a report supervisors reviewed at Wednesday’s meeting.
The report says that one in three county cars is a take-home vehicle the highest ratio of 30 California counties surveyed.
The Sheriff’s Department has 889 vehicles, including 513 take-home cars. The District Attorney’s Office has 99, including 63 take-home cars, according to the report. The DA’s office says that number has changed and the department now has 81 vehicles, including 60 take-home cars.
County officials are recommending a number of changes to the vehicle policy, including mileage limits and possibly making workers pay for gas related to their commute.
“It raised my eyes to see we have a vehicle for every four employees,” Dickinson said. “That to me is an astonishing figure. It’s also about how we run our operation
No Roger, it isn't counterproductive.
What was counterproductive in the first place was playing nursemaid to Criminal Invading Illegal Insurgent Alien Colonists with our taxes.
The solution is simple.
Make them go to their own country and have their government pay for their schooling and medical needs.
