Actually Indian Catholics and traditional Protestants and other affiliates are good people, on the whole... better than the average Indian, on many counts, for that matter.

It’s the new-age fraudsters, Pentecostal-types and Doomsday Evangelists who are really wreaking havoc.

Don't you know anything?

LOL. Yeah, it was a bit of a rhetorical question. I saw a documentary on cable a few months ago about Russian thugs terrorizing the countryside. The thug leader's hero was Stalin, and he even had a photo of Stalin on his apartment wall. The documentary called this guy "right wing."

I almost wrote the cable station a letter about it. I wish I had.

I know, because the average “Hindu” extremist, who would know as much Hindu scripture as a block of stone, can’t differenciate between the doomsdayers and the traditionals.

“In general, all Indian parties are left wing. “

No way ! There was a certain Samajwadi Party catering specificly to Bussiness Interests a few decades ago .
Now Business Houses Prefer to work with the congress Party rather than non - congress ones .

“The Congress Party consists of the successors of their first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru who was a close friend of Stalin and implemented the Soviet model of economy as envisioned by Lenin in India.”

More like they were trying Gandhi's Philosophy . BTW I dislike Nehru he was a communist atheist .

Samajwadi Party

I assume you mean the Swatantra Party (Freedom Party)? The operational word in your sentence is "WAS."

More like they were trying Gandhi's Philosophy .

Economics is one field I can guarantee I know quite a bit about. Indian economy had nothing to do with Gandi's suggestions, but had everything to do with Nehru's fascination for the Soviet Union. While Gandi wanted self-sufficiency at the level of villages, Nehru implemented Five Year Plans and a centrally planned economy planned at a Planning Commission. Five Year plans as well as the Planning Commission were Soviet ideas. Nehru was the one who wanted to nationalize Indian industries. His daughter followed up by nationalizing mines and banks as well.

Nehru has written quite a bit about Gandi's economic ideas in his autobiography and attacks Gandi for favoring capitalism over socialism and seeing socialism as violent.

I don't mean anything at a personal level. In general, I found that there is a lot of corruption in India and the common Indians are the victims of such corruption. I would trust an ordinary Indian over an Indian politician. Similarly, I would trust ordinary Christians in India over the clergy.

Spreading the message of Jesus is one thing, but the exaggerations and claims of churches being burnt are wholly another. Put yourself in my shoes. I give money and travel to India and find out that I've been taken for a ride and that I am not alone in this. There is an industry out there that generates tales of persecution and martyrdom in order to strike a chord with us and it is extremely difficult to describe the rage I felt when I realized that the people feeding me stories were evasive about their claims.

Again, please don't take it personally, if you read my posts elsewhere, you will see that I have been sympathetic to Indians in general except the Moslem ones. It is just that many Indians seem to think that all Westerners are wealthy and they can squeeze us of our money and we won't mind it.

“It is just that many Indians seem to think that all Westerners are wealthy and they can squeeze us of our money and we won't mind it.”

Many ? I think 90 % of the Indians think Westerners are wealthy and they can squeeze money out of them . I am among the 10 % who do not .

I am so sorry that you had a terrible experience in India.
Though such incidences are common . I hope you and the members of your church have learned a lesson . Please make sure you NEVER donate to India again as I can guarantee you the aid will either never reach its destination or will be some scam . We never donated anything to such causes . Anyway - which state in India did you donate money to ?

“I assume you mean the Swatantra Party (Freedom Party)?”

Yeah Sorry ! It's 4:30 a.m. in Mumbai City . I have not slept a wink so I am not even sure what I am saying .

Nehru was a socialist . Gandhi's views were also socialist - the only thing is he(Gandhi) did not favor the kind of socialism that was practiced in the U.S.S.R. He found it violent .Anyway if I remember correctly Gandhi's philosophy was that of egalitarianism .

“Nehru has written quite a bit about Gandhi's economic ideas in his autobiography and attacks Gandhi for favoring capitalism over socialism and seeing socialism as violent.”

Gandhi in his own words - (I am not ashamed to own that many capitalists are friendly towards me and do not fear me. They know that I desire to end capitalism, almost, if not quite, as much as the most advanced Socialist or even Communist. But our methods differ, our languages differ. - Gandhi)

. So Gandhi wanted people to become socialist voluntarily . Gandhi - Nehru - were both leftists. Yawn ! there is no *real* ideological difference in political parties in India . I think I will stay home again this April election .
