RUSH: Let's go to the audio sound bites. This is, let's see, Brad Sherman (Democrat-California) interviewing -- or interrogating -- the bank CEOs yesterday as part of the House Financial Services Committee hearing.
SHERMAN: I'd like you to raise your hand if your company currently owns or leases a private plane. Let the record show all the hands, uh, went up except, uh, for the, uh, gentleman from, uh, Goldman Sachs. Gentlemen, we know that it is extremely expensive to operate these planes, that you could sell them and generate capital for your company and that capital could be used to repay taxpayers malady. The big show of not buying one particular new plane flies in the face of how you're really flying.
RUSH: Folks, I cannot tell you how this infuriates me. This Sherman guy obviously is a dunce. For a member of Congress to be telling CEOs of anything, they have to sell their jets? Does this guy not understand, for crying out loud, this Congress is supposed to be about creating jobs, we're told. They're out there trying to destroy the automobile business. Now they're trying to destroy private aviation. Do they have no idea who it is that flies these airplanes and why? Do they have no idea who it takes to build these airplanes? The company that owns Cessna is based in Providence, Rhode Island. They just laid off 4,600 people! They just laid off 4,600 workers at the company that makes Cessna jets. Now, Cessna has one of their assembly plants is in Wichita, Kansas, of course. But the outfit that owns them is a company called Textron. Let's see, Textron...

So, who's going to buy them? And with all those planes on the market, what is going to happen to their value?
What about the airports and FBO’s and flight instructors?
Yes. The liberal geniuses at work. Can’t think 2 steps ahead of where they are.
I wish more of these CEOs had the stones to flip these windbags the bird. For instance, the “big-oil” execs....when some Congressional gasbag starts whining about “excessive” or “obscene” profits...answer to the effect...” well Senator, my companies profit avaerages 8 cents a gallon, the federal government gets 10 cents (or whatever it is) and your state gets 25 cents....
The CEO should have asked the committee why do they have to fly around in government planes at taxpayers expense why not fly on commericial airlines. Maybe O should fly around in a smaller jet rather than a Jumbo.
It’s all about how we feeeeeeeeeeeeel about the jets...
It’s the symbolism that is important!!!
‘ang on a minute. If companies are receiving millions of dollars of gummint bailout money — otherwise they go broke — I’d say absolutely that gives the gummint a right to have a say in how the companies run and what sort of aeroplanes they get to own-or-otherwise.
More than that, it gives the gummint an OBLIGATION to do so. And should probably also entitle the gummint to a seat on the Board. Or maybe two.
If the companies don’t like being told what to do by the gummint, they do have one good option: don’t take the bailout money, take the lumps instead. If I were chairman of one of those companies, that would be the option I would pick. It would be painful, but not nearly so painful as long-term gummint interference.
As a taxpayer, if a company were receiving tax money, there is no way in Texas I’d want them owning expensive assets such as private jets. Liquidate them and use the proceeds to pay down debt to the gummint.
(luckily so far, none of this is directly my problem as (so far) our gummint in New Zealand hasn’t gone down the bailout route.)
They should gather up all those jets a feed them into shredders amidst cheers and celebration. That would make the dems feel good.
Is the left tire blown out on that bird?
You are right. If the idiots in Washington had a clue, they would understand. But, we have a community organizer for a president, and way to many people who have never actually had any real business experience running the show. They see aircraft as a luxury. Let me give you a real example (the company I work for) of what GA in business looks like. We have a Beechcraft King Air, a really nice dependable aircraft. Paid about 3.5 million for it, if I remember right. We have a professional pilot who is paid a good salary. We have several plants scattered about the country, our engineering staff is at our facility. Let’s say we have a problem in North Carolina, our whole plant is down. If we go to the local ticket counter and buy seats for 5, it will probably be $7500 total, plus we have to wait on the flight. Now the King Air can take us straight there and back for about $5000 (I think my figures are correct) depending on fuel costs. The added bonus is we can carry a couple of extra hands for the same cost, although with the extra load you will burn extra fuel. The real kicker is the downed plant is costing roughly $25000 an hour in downtime. It really doesn’t take many trips like this to justify having an aircraft. On a personal note, I am in flight training now, some day I want to own my own plane. I don’t need some idiot in DC to tell me how to spend my money that I EARNED because they think I don’t need to fly or own an aircraft. Of course, with the bunch in power, I am more worried about them taking my money, that’s just another way to tell you how to run your life. Sorry for the rant, I am an aviation buff and this is close to my heart. I am putting the kids through school, and I have put myself last for a long time. My wife said we could afford the plane now, that it was my turn to have some fun.(Great Woman) I hope I don’t come across as selfish, but I worked hard, dang it, and isn’t part of America being able to realize your lifelong dreams?
“there is no way in Texas Id want them owning expensive assets such as private jets.”
Employees are expensive assets too. They should get rid of them also.
As a Christian, viewing the photo you posted, I think I just broke that commandment about coveting. I always feel the need to go to church and repent after a visit to the airport.
I now understand sins have consequences. TADSLOS, thank you.
> Employees are expensive assets too. They should get rid of them also.
Employees are intangibles that no doubt have value. But thanks to Obama’s hero Abraham Lincoln, you have the Emancipation Proclamation now, which precludes you from realizing your employees as tangible assets.
Bummer, ay!
Here’s what I find both amusing and insane. The most dramatically insolvent institution in America is probably the national government. Yet Nancy Pelosi has no compunction whatsoever about insisting upon having a custom jetliner for her own personal use, paid for by the government.

200 or 300?
