White House provides plane to senator for key stimulus vote
CNN ^ | 2/13/2009

The White House has provided the use of a government airplane to a key Democratic senator in order to ensure the availability of what may prove to be the deciding 60th vote in favor of the $787 billion economic stimulus package.

Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, has returned to his home state to attend a wake for his 88-year-old mother, who died February 2 from complications from leukemia. At the end of the wake, Brown will be flown from Mansfield, Ohio, to Andrews Air Force Base.

After he casts his vote, he will return to Ohio for his mother's funeral early Saturday.

The plane is being provided by the White House, Brown's office said, because the vote is considered "official business," and there are no commercial flights available that would allow him to cast the vote and return to Ohio for his mother's funeral Saturday morning.

How is this different from those horrible lobbyists who provide private aircraft to US Senators?

More to the point, we just had several days of hearings berating the use of corporate jets as wasteful spending by corporations. What a joke these clowns are. This whole this is an embarrassment for the nation.

So much for the separation of powers. We live in a fascist state.

Fetid Dem Senators grill bank CEOs and excoriate them about having private aircraft. Then same Fetid Dem Senators fly on military aircraft to get to a vote. Even worse, Queen Pelosi has a 767 at her beck and call to fly between CA and DC. Good God, I hate the ruling class in the US. Why can’t we throw all these schmucks into a swamp and elect some real Americans who understand representative democracy?

This is a bloody nightmare.

So if he is the 60th vote, who voted for Coleman/Franken seat and who is the official deadtome Republican that voted for it?

No doubt this is another "Gore at the Dam" event where the amount of jet fuel wasted on this trip exceeds all the jet fuel all the corporate bailout executives could have wasted for the rest of the century.

The Obama Regime is recapitulating the history of the Democrat party isn't it.

Equal but SEPERATE...

I want my children to study this fact very clearly. This article is the exact moment in time that the Republic known as the United States of America ceased to exist as we knew it.

Not to be callous, but I wonder how much reading Sherrod was able to do at the funeral.

I guess Queen Pelosi’s plane was down for maintenance.

Could you imagine if President Bush pulled the same thing for an important vote in Congress? Oberwoman would have blown a fuse.

I am just going to copy what I wrote on another thread about this. The short version is that any multi-hundred-billion-dollar company that sends its CEO around on commercial airlines is grossly irresponsible. This is class warfare of the most distorted kind. The time of a top-level officer of such a company genuinely IS worth more than the cost of charter air travel. The cost of having said ceo spend 100 hours a year checking in, 2 full work-days a year lost to missed connections/delays, etc., is huge. My previous post -

“the entire class warfare stuff about corporate planes is really being distorted beyond reason, at least in terms of the need of corporate officers to get to point B from point A without spending the night in atlanta (or DFW ORD DTW MSP etc) when their flight is late and their connection gone, not to mention the hours spend in check-in, baggage claim, etc.

If you are CEO or other major officer of a major company (billions in revenue), the cost to the company of you being out of functional circulation, particularly unplanned as in cxl’ed flights, is just too high to justify risking flying Delta. Whether the company charters, leases, owns, etc., is in part semantics. I don’t doubt that planes are used by officers for recreational motives also, but imagine one of those ceo’s at the congressional hearing not showing up because delta had an equipment issue.”

Exactly right. The issue isn’t the gas spent on a one passenger mission, it is the Executive Branch directly facilitating a critical Legislative function. In the past even the worst Presidents would have known that it was just wrong. The music has died.

**berating the use of corporate jets as wasteful spending **

Exactly. Obama is guilty here. Wasting fuel and energy.

Gas and spending has nothing to do with this!

The EXECUTIVE BRANCH jetted a member of the LEGISLATIVE branch to do the EXECUTIVE BRANCH’s bidding.

Do you NOT UNDERSTAND THE IMPLICATIONS HERE?

DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS MEANS FOR OUR ONCE NATION?

I’M SCREAMING BECAUSE THIS IS HUGE!

Does anyone understand this except Controlling Legal Authority???

I'm with you. We have witnessed an unparalleled breach of the basic rules of our government. It's illegal.
