Fred Thompson set for TV return

Actor and former U.S. presidential candidate Fred D. Thompson is set to make his return to television in an episode of "Life on Mars," ABC announced.

Thompson, 66, is to portray Police Chief Harry Woolf in the Feb. 25 installment of the 1970s-set cop drama, which stars Jason O'Mara, Harvey Keitel, Michael Imperioli, Gretchen Mol and Jonathan Murphy.

Thompson, who served as a Republican senator representing Tennessee from 1994 through 2003, was a cast member of "Law & Order" for five years and made appearances on the show's spinoffs "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

Thompson's bid for the Republican nomination for U.S. president was unsuccessful last year as Sen. John McCain became the party's candidate in the election.

Thompson/Palin would have sent Obama back to Chicago.

>>>Thompson/Palin would have sent Obama back to Chicago.

Wishful thinking. Thompson totally fizzled with republicans. How then would he have won dems and independents?

Besides, once the market crashed I don’t think even Reagan could have beaten the dem nominee regardless of who they put forward.

I enjoy him as an actor though. Life on Mars needs all the help it can get. It has the kernal of a good show with an interesting concept and a very good supporting cast. Emphasis on Keitel and Mol. But somehow it just doesn’t gel. The lead actor is the weak link. Too much a PC wuss to buy as a NYPD detective even in 2009, much less an effective cop in 1973 “Death Wish” New York.

You have to remember that Thompson hadn’t been in politics for awhile. The blue-bloods only fund long-term elitists (McLame), as opposed to rock-solid southern conservatives. Also, 2008 was the election of the MSM, and the MSM wanted McLame.

These hurdles were too much for Thompson to overcome. Had he managed to overcome it, however, rest assured Thompson/Palin would have won the election.

“Life On Mars” is pretty good. It manages to keep me watching which is better than many newer shows. Although, I think/hope the era of quirky shows that keep you “lost” every week are on the way out.

Thompson suffered the loss of a child - something nobody could ever get over - so the “fire in the belly” needed for presidential politics just wasn’t there. It is a tragedy for the family and a loss for America.

McCain worked hard to insure that Zero won.

If that were true, McCain (the anti-Reagan) would have lost by 30 points.

I sent 4100 to Fred’s campaign and got a thank you note back, addressed to a combination of my name and my wife's name. After Fred dropped out, McCain and the GOP both send solicitations to the same mixed names.

Couldn't agree more. The star, Jason O'Mara, seems more like a Social Worker or ACLU lawyer. I'm told the British version of the show is better, but this version overall is WAYYY too PC.

They had a mid season cliffhanger, when it returned they showed an out of sequence episode and the cliffhanger resolution the following week. The ratings are crap. It will be canceled.

“, once the market crashed I don’t think even Reagan could have beaten the dem nominee regardless of who they put forward.”

The circumstances were very poor for a Republican victory even before that. But it was eminently possible due to Obama’s weaknesses. McCain blew it.
