Lawmakers (Non-Arizona congress-persons) Want Look at Sheriff in Arizona

Members of Congress asked the Justice and Homeland Security Departments on Friday to investigate accusations that the sheriff who presides over the Phoenix metropolitan area has engaged in a pattern of racial profiling and other abuses against Latino residents.

Four members of the House Judiciary Committee, including the chairman, John Conyers Jr., Democrat of Michigan, raised of concerns about the sheriff, Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County.

Sheriff Arpaio, a publicity magnet who is a hero to those who campaign against illegal immigration and a pariah to immigration advocates, brushed off the requests as political high jinks.

They are committee Chairman John Conyers Jr. of Michigan, Zoe Lofgren of California, Jerrold Nadler of New York and Robert Scott of Virginia.

Last year, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, along with civil-liberties and immigrant-advocacy groups, called for similar investigations of Arpaio.

Probably the best sheriff in he country.

It isnt any news that these a-holes are after him , it’s surprising it took so long.

They just can’t stand that he makes the rest of them look so bad.

If Conyers picks a fight with Joe, he might get a lot more than he bargained for.

I suppose it is racial profiling if you consider people who knowingly and willingly violate our immigration laws as a race.

Under the Constitution, Artile 1, Section 6: "The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, beprivileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place."

Congressional Privilege does not cover this sort of trip, since it is not travel to or from the sessions of the House and the Senate. I would love to see this sheriff visited by these clowns and witness them stepping out of line.

The lefties have waited for many years to cut the Sheriff down to size or to have him indicted for something or other.

With Obama now in power, it's not surprising they would make a bold move. They undoubtedly expect the Obama Justice Department to take action against Sheriff Joe and remove him from office on some trumped-up federal civil rights charge. This is very possible under the new Attorney General, the corrupt Eric Holder.

I know freepers are connecting the dots as to what's starting to happen across the country. On another thread, I just commented on Obama's attempt to seize control of the U.S. Census and put the control into the White House office of Rhambo Emmanuel.

The leftists are moving on every aspect of public life abd personal freedoms in the attempt to take over with naked power grabs.

Personally I think Conyers does this to distract from his own problems. His wife has been named in an FBI investigation along with the Kilpatricks and I have trouble believing that Conyers himself is completely insulated from that.

Could it be that BDS was a ruse so they would have just such an excuse once the one was elected. Probably not, since BDS preceeds the ONE Which must mean it is just the way they are.

You are sooooo right. Even some friends of mine who are Democrats are really getting upset over what they see happening. Perhaps people will be a lot more careful about voting next time....

Couldn’t agree more. Rats, unchecked and left to their own vices will inevitably run the country into the ground with their unabashed socialism. All things considered, Zero won with 53% of the vote. I don’t see how we can’t turn 4% of the voting public in our favor after the current and coming economic fiasco.

“I don’t see how we can’t turn 4% of the voting public in our favor after the current and coming economic fiasco”

The Democrats are AWARE of this....thus the monies being funneled to ACORN (and a similar organization), the push to increase welfare rolls....and to move the Census to the White House, where it can be manipulated to Democrat advantage in future elections (not to mention funding).

Really? Your friends are starting to see it too? Mine who were all caught up in the ‘really cool people think George Bush is a dork and Obama is really cool, like me’ and now they are realizing (I mean this literally) that cool doesn’t play well when you are the one losing. And sometimes really cool people aren’t GOOD people. Especially when given power over you.

My liberal father wasn’t real pleased with the “Comparative Effectiveness” portion of the Stimulus Bill, but he ran right back in his room and drank a little more of the Olbermann flavored Kool Aid and feels better because Obama really wants to take care of us all. (I’m barfing as I’m writing this)

Don’t forget, Obama grabbed the census. Never before in the history of our country has that happened and there is a reason why.

So I’m not confident of voting our way out of this.

Arpaio isn't necessarily a saint just because 'the wicked' are after him; he wouldn't be the first Sheriff to demagogue the Constitution and be attacked by opponents with ulterior motives. There may not be any heroes here.

Stop and think. We’re only a few weeks into this administration. There’s more to come and lots of Americans (all parties) are beginning to get concerned. These nut cases running our government are hoisting themselves on their own petard.

I am also beginning to see people so angry...who would never have mentioned it before. Example: Husband and I went to the bank yesterday to sign some paperwork and the bank manager, who is very professional, freely expressed his anger with us for over 25 minutes (as soon as he discovered that we were completely against the “Stimulus” bill).

Our dumb-assed democrat congressman has seldom visited this part of his district because he can make more money from the urban graft opportunities elsewhere in the district, and because this part of the district is historically republican. With his imbecilic and uninformed vote for this current socialistic bailout, the term “congressman” is no longer associated with his name, and instead, terms like “that asshole”, “the dumb bastard”, “the stupid son of a bitch”, and “that god damned crook” are the words that precede his last name as he is discussed in public places. I doubt he will ever come around here again. I don’t think he would want to risk having his car break down hereabouts, nor have the media actually get to see how angry people are hereabouts now.

You could not get more entertainment than having Sheriff Joe called to testify before Congress about his fidelity to enforcement of the law, and Mark Levin called to testify about Congress reimposing the Fairness Doctrine. There wouldn't be a RAT able to sit for weeks after those appearances.

They'd probably soil their knickers in fear if they were confronted 1-on-1 by Sheriff Joe.
