....from USA Today

Kyle Petty was sporting a No. 45 baseball cap with a black line through the 45 on Saturday. He said that’s in honor of his son, Adam. who drove the No. 45 before he was killed in a Busch Series accident during practice in May 2000 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

“My grandfather (Lee Petty) drove the No. 42, King (Richard) drove the No. 43, I drove the No. 44 and Adam drove 45,” Kyle Petty said. “I always said I’m just filling in for Adam in the 45. The 45 with the mark in it is my tribute to acknowledge that Adam drove the No. 45 car, not Kyle Petty.”

Why in the name of all that is right would they let Tom Cruise drive the pace car. That alone sickens me. I sure wont be watching the start.

By the way Bush tried his best to spin Smoke, it was great driving by Srewart, dirty tricks by Bush.

Yes I was waiting for shrub to punt him, but he was dealing with a veteran this time. lol Punk was mad and stormed off to his motorhome.

Rick Hendrick invited Cruise to the race because of Days Of Thunder movie which he provided all the cars for.

I also just read that Gavin DeGraw is a last-minute replacement for Julianne Hough to sing the National Anthem. Not sure why.

Thanks Mac!!

Jr was reported to have a sinus infection, but now they say he has the flu. He sure lost his mojo today there at the end. As usual everyone kind of dumped him.

Daytona, February 14, 2009: With the No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet and the No. 39 U.S. Army Chevrolet both being involved in an on-track accident during today’s final practice session for the Daytona 500, both Stewart-Haas Racing teams have gone to a backup racecar for the season-opening NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

Tony Stewart is now driving Chassis No. 14-454, which is the car he drove to a third-place finish in last Saturday’s non-point Budweiser Shootout at Daytona. It is a carryover chassis from the former Haas CNC team, as it made its debut at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in October 2007 with driver Johnny Sauter, who qualified 39th and led two laps before finishing 12th. It participated in winter testing at Daytona in 2008 before Scott Riggs piloted the car in the 50th running of the Daytona 500, where he qualified 27th and finished 21st. The No. 14 team was able to get some track time during final practice with Chassis No. 14-454. It will now be wrapped in Office Depot/Old Spice colors for the Daytona 500.

Ryan Newman is now driving Chassis No. 39-452. Its history consists of three restrictor-plate track tests in 2007, three Talladega races (fall 2007, spring and fall 2008) and one Daytona attempt. This car was tentatively slated as the backup for the No. 14 team if its Budweiser Shootout car was damaged in the race, hence the red paint. Once the No. 14 team’s Budweiser Shootout car emerged from the race unscathed, Chassis No. 39-452 was designated as a communal backup racecar for both the Nos. 14 and 39 teams should anything happen to either team during the remainder of Daytona Speedweeks. The No. 39 team was already using its designated backup car during final practice after crashing its primary racecar in the Gatorade Duel. The No. 39 team was unable to get Chassis No. 39-452 on the track during final practice. It will now be wrapped in U.S. Army colors for the Daytona 500.

2009 AL Central Champs? Would that be the Indians? People are talking about my Cincinnati Reds being good this year. They got some young people that might blossom this year. I can finally wear my Cincy Reds cap with pride again.

As for the race I will pick Stewart since he is out from Toyota so he has a clear mind. Otherwise I would look for Jeff Gordon (the good Gordon) to win.

Tony Stewart says he won’t meet with Goodyear to voice his concerns after the practice wreck this morning. “I would rather spend my time productively,” he said.

Stewart also said he stands by the comments he made after the practice wreck.

“I don’t say it if I don’t mean it,” he said. “The thing is, this morning’s over and there’s nothing we can do about it. Nothing can change. The important thing is we’ve found a way to put that behind us by winning a Nationwide race for Mr. Hendrick. This was the perfect thing to try to get it out of my mind.”

This contest is silly. I can’t pick the top four in ANY order, much less the top twelve in the right order.

You are correct about the Indians. I was watching the ‘97 World Series highlight video last night on MLB Network. 11 1/2 years later and I still about cried when Edgar Renteria hit that ball just over the outstretched glove of Charles Nagy....

As for Smoke, I could see a more relaxed driver that doesn’t have ownership chewing at his ear helping him out on the track. Yeah, big responsibility being an owner and still lots of distractions(especially lots of inexperienced drivers and ownership groups)to deal with too.

I want to see what the young guns bring, or not bring to the track, cause I get the feeling that will have a big outcome on who ends up winning.

I think Smoke should look a little closer to home instead of just dumping on Goodyear. Same issue Newman had in the Shootout, sixteen laps and blown right rear. Today, ten laps and blown right rear. Set-up?

The cars are bouncing so hard in places they are bottoming out and throwing a shower of sparks behind them. Ya think the body just might be coming in contact with the tar?
