Starve The Beast (A FR Actvism Thread to Combat the Rape of the American Taxpayer)
my derranged cerebrum | Feb. 15th 2009 | Mad Dawgg

Posted on 02/15/2009 11:52:47 AM PST by Mad Dawgg

This Thread is to bring together Freepers to institute a legal way to Starve the US government of our Tax Dollars. Please add any and all suggestions to this thread for legal ways to STARVE THE BEAST!

Spread the Word to your Non-Freeper Friends. Show people how to keep more of their hard earned money and get more back from Uncle Obama.

OK so here goes:

So you feel like its all hopeless. You feel the inmates are in charge of the asylum.

Yeah its bad BUT there is something we can all do. AND it benefits yourself WHILE putting it to the looters in Washington.

First understand that the engine that drives Liberalism/ Socialism is taxpayer money. Without it they can't do all the crap they wish to.

So the first thing to do is strangle the dollars going to Washington on a weekly basis.

How you ask? Its simple really. Contact your employer and change your withholding on your W-2 Forms. Claim more dependents. This takes less out of your paycheck to send to Washington. (I suggest you claim one or two more than you actually have.)

Take that extra money per pay period and put it in a local bank in a Savings or Money Market account.

If at Tax Time you then owe some back you have it in your savings and you have made money on it rather than giving Uncle Sam a tax free loan on your money.

The next thing you can do is turn a hobby or interest into a legal side business and use it for more tax deductions. (Contact your accountant on the particulars on how to legally do such)

One of the benefits of turning a hobby into a side business is you can take a holiday vacation and legally turn most of it into a tax deduction.

Just a ping to thank you all for posting your thoughts and suggestions. I have read every post and have checked all submitted links and ordered all the suggested books from my local library!

Also the suggestion about Operation Free Cheese (Aptly named by whodathunkit) caught my wife's eye.

I've had to quit working in our business as of January 1st due to some unknown ailment with my legs (I've been battling it now for many months but its got to the point where I am having trouble walking)

Long story short our insurance does not cover many of the tests I need and with me not working my wife suggested we contact the hospital and see if we could get some from of financial aide. Normally I scoff at such and we just tighten our belts and grit it out and pay off such in payments. But after the wife showed me Octomom was going to get over 2 million in Medical bills paid for by the Government I said what the hell.

So the wife contacted the hospital today and to my amazement we qualified to have a good chunk of my Medical Bills for tests paid for. It was some GOvernment fund from the state and Federal coffers. It wasn't near as much as Octomom, about 800 bucks in all but its still a chunk of change in my book.

We also changed the wife's W-4s to take even more deductions and we got 4 friends to do so as well.

I hope you all can Help to Starve the Beast in your own ways. And if anyone thinks of any other nifty ways please share!

My friend has a brain tumor and was on Medicare. They switched him to Medicaid because the drugs he needs are so expensive. It’s complicated but it works out better for him. He’s only 45 but he’s on SSD as he’s unable to work. Recently he has been having trouble with one leg and an MRI shows a spot on his spine. He has been going for a lot of tests which Medicaid has been paying for but his doctor wanted him to have a PET scan that Medicaid wouldn’t approve. He managed to find a group that does it for free because they are into some sort of experimental thingy. You might try asking around some more for this type of thing. Also, if you are a veteran the VA fills prescriptions for a very, very low amount of money. Some drug companies also give drugs for free or for a low copay if you qualify. I wish the best for you, and a prayer.

Make your own beer. The tax on beer is excessive in most states, unjustifiably.

Before the election, I had a loonie lefty email me on YouTube. Here’s my last response to him, with his comments in quotes.

He had no answer for any of this.

Re: Re: Educate yourself (he wrote me saying to educate myself!)

“I am of the belief that helping the mentally ill, the physically unable to work, the underemployed, the under-insured, the elderly and a host of others IS A LEGITIMATE GOAL of government.”

No, because then there is no end to the “legitimate role of government.” It’s an endless list of “needs” - homes, food, transportation, medicine, entertainment, internet access, etc. Equality might be a legitimate role of SOCIETY but not of GOVERNMENT. It’s a job the churches have largely abandoned, but that’s what they SHOULD be doing. What you are advocating is SOCIALISM just as Joe the Plumber pointed out. Oh but you posted endless hate messages about him, because he dared to question your plastic messiah.

Just how many “hosts” (your word) of people do you think you can support? Are you ready to take in the entire indigent population of South America including Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, etc.? Gee you’re a nice guy! (Or a sap!) They’re gonna come flooding in with a sure-to-be-approved amnesty plan with your oh-so-generous congress.

Have fun working for the rest of your life supporting them too, if you can find a job! Foreigners who don’t complain about OSHA, EEOC, Social Security, health insurance, minimum wage, labor laws and excess hours and who don’t pay into any tax system are a lot easier to employ than Americans who demand all this protection plus expensive social programs that cost business time and effort to maintain. So guess who the employers are gonna hire first? Not YOU!

Oh and have fun working for the rest of your life supporting me too! I’m gonna enjoy staying home while you play all the office games trying to get ahead enough to support yourself and your family, and all the while us Baby Boomers will be bleeding you dry.

It’s the bed you want to build, and I get to lie in it. Thanks!

Good thread...... Surely some good ideas out there to add to the thread.

Farmer’s markets are usually cheaper and you can buy in bulk to preserve.

I don't suppose we could get some friendly Critter to sponsor a bill that would do away with withholding altogether?

If folks had to pony up the entire amount at the end of a year, they might finally take note of just how much money being's sucked away by the gov't.

This is a great idea for a thread, BTW! Thanks!

What would happen if lots of people sucked all of their cash [CDs if they’re coming due]out of the banks on April 15.

Didn’t this whole problem start with the banks when somebody started pulling millions outta their accounts.

Banks aren’t paying that much interest anyway. Move the money into a small local credit union if they’re insured.

MD: Ok, I have another idea. And I particularly like this one because it involves sticking it to public employee unions. It’s long, but stick with me.

First, think about Social Security(SS). We all know it’s a Ponzi Scheme. The pols spend our FICA money as fast as it rolls in. What doesn’t go to benefits they spend on the general fund. They put IOU’s in the SS “fund”...promising a future congress will pay us back. There is not one dime in the “fund”. (For discussion purposes, I may refer to SS as our “pensions”.)

Now, think about all those public employee pensions out there at the state and local levels. Yes, they’re underfunded. But they DO have FUNDS in them...TRILLIONS of $$$! I.e., the governments don’t treat public employees’ pensions like they do ours. Theirs are “off budget” and funded.
______________________________________________________

In short:
Government “gave” us a “pension fund” with nothing but IOUs in it.
BUT
Government taxes US to give THEMSELVES pensions funds with $Trillions in them.
______________________________________________________

I propose that we confiscate those trillions sitting out there in public pension funds.

We’ll give them IOU’s -— just like the ones THEY put in our SS accounts. Their IOU’s cannot be redeemed any faster than the rate at which Congress repays SS. And, like Congress has power to cut our benefits and change retirement ages, we will take back the power to set the same for public employees. First action would be to modify those overly generous pensions to something more resembling ours. Retirement age: 65. No annual pension can be higher than average salaries in the private sector. Most would look more like SS. No health care for life...welcome to Medicare. No exempting pensions from taxes unless the same exemption applies to SS recipients and private pension payments. We’ll “give” them 401k’s just like the gov’t gave us, but none of those rip-off provisions that promise them EIGHT AND HALF PERCENT returns!

Can you imagine the backlash?! (Maybe a war)
They will say, “Hey, we CONTRIBUTED out of our paychecks”.
We can say “SO DID WE! Ever heard of FICA?!”.
They’ll say “It’s not fair, we were promised those benefits”.
We will quote Obama: “Everyone has to pitch in”.
They will say, “The state constitution guarantees our benefits”.
We will change the constitution.

In other words, their bellyaching will fall on my deaf ears. I mean, how can they complain that it’s not fair to put IOUs in one’s retirement account? Really?!

I know. It’s a pipe dream. It would take some kind of voter initiative revolution to accomplish it. But I can dream. Just thinking about it brought a smile to my face.

[One last thought. This reminds me of the Dems’ trial balloon last Fall where they would confiscate our 401k’s and put them in the SS fund (for our good, of course!). They said they could do it because it was government that authorized the accounts to begin with, therefore government could take them away. Wouldn’t it be fun to turn the tables on them and their enablers in the public unions?! “Hey, we PAID for those pensions. Now we’re taking them back!”. I’d love to see it.]

Postscript: Yes, I understand that SS is federal and those pension funds are in state a local governments.

I never said it would be EASY!
