House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) and three fellow Democrats want the Department of Justice to investigate civil rights complaints against controversial sheriff Joe Arpaio.
The lawmakers, in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano sent Friday, are seeking a probe into reports Arpaio has used skin color as a basis to search for illegal immigrants in Arizona.
Conyers and Reps. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) and Bobby Scott (D-Va.) want to end a federal agreement that allows the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office to enforce immigration laws if the allegations turn out to be accurate.
It is hardly the first time Arpaio, sheriff of Arizona's largest county, has attracted criticism from those who take issue with his approach. Last year, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon (D) and several immigrant rights groups called for a similar investigation, according to the Arizona Republic.
Arpaio has been at the center of other national controversies before, including instituting volunteer chain gangs and issuing prisoners pink underwear.
Conyers and his fellow committee members accuse Arpaio of ordering deputies to search largely Hispanic neighborhoods in and around Phoenix for illegal immigrants. Those in the Hispanic community, the lawmakers wrote, "feel under siege."

Conyers is unclear about the part in the oath where one swears to uphold the Constitution.
Conyers, etc. are actively and intentionally working to destroy the United States.
History and law-enforcement background
Arpaio’s mother died while giving birth to him, and Arpaio was raised by his father, a grocery store owner. He completed high school and worked in his father's business until age 18 when he enlisted in the United States Army.[5]
Arpaio served in the Army from 1950-1954 in the Medical Detachment Division and was stationed in France for part of the time as a military policeman.[6]
Following his discharge from the Army in 1954 he moved to Washington, D.C. and became a policeman, moving in 1957 to Las Vegas, Nevada. He would serve in Nevada only six months before obtaining a job as a Special Agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration.[7] During his 25-year tenure with DEA, he was stationed in both Turkey and Mexico, and advanced to the position of head of the DEA’s Arizona branch.[8]
In 1992, Arpaio successfully campaigned for the office of Maricopa County Sheriff. He was reelected in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 with considerable support of the county voters.[9]
He married Ava Arpaio in 1958. The couple currently has two children and four grandchildren.[10]
Notice none of the politicians mentioned are actually from AZ. Why in hell should CA reps have anything to say about an AZ Sheriff? We're getting ready to release 60,000 prisoners because of a judge's ruling. They need to take care of our own business.
This is politics, Napolitano using her position to harass this extremely effective and popular Sheriff. I think/hope/pray state's rights vs. the federal gov't is going to be a big part of politics from now on.
Sheriff Joe, whom I absolutely love, is not happy about this and he is not a man to be messed with.

Well I guess, but as head of Homeland Security she wouldn't need them to tell her to do her job she could just have her own department ask the FBI to make the probe. The accusation is silly on it face.
