ELCA ready to issue stance on gay ordination

The battle lines are about to be drawn for this summer's confrontation over the ordination of gay people by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

With the matter scheduled for a vote at the biannual national convention in Minneapolis in August, church leaders will release a position paper Thursday that is expected to indicate their stance on the issue.

This is the second public step in a process that began in 2001 when the ELCA Churchwide Assembly commissioned a social statement on human sexuality.

"The battle lines are about to be drawn." About to be drawn? The ELCA's agreements with the Episcopalians a few years back was pressing down pretty hard with the old pencil. Anyone paying attention to the matter knows that the ELCA has already determined what it it going to do, and will consider those who won't abide it to be merely homophobes who are free to go.

There may be a few little old ladies at white clapboard churches in rural Iowa who will be stunned when they meet their first new gay pastor, but that will be about the extent of any shock or surprise.

Exactly how do you ordain homosexuals in a Christian Church?
If you do, why stop there? Why not people that like to commit murderers? Or how about arsonists?
Yes a person that has sinned by homsexual activity can repent become a Christian and then surely could become ordained. But these people are still sinning, They have not stopped and in fact will propogate their sin from the pulpit. How is this Christian?
These Church’s involved in these things are self destructive and seem to not even be aware......

That high pitched whine you hear? That’s Luther spinning in his grave.

Being a refugee from the Episcopal Church I know what is going to happen in the ELCA.

Having moved to Chicago and looking for a church I went to a beautiful old Episcopal church in Chicago several times and the only attendees were 15 very old women and 1 old man. (At one time I bet the congregation was in the 100’s.) The 30’ish very gay (limp-wristed)priest preached one sermon each Sunday and every Sunday - we need to accept everyone - however they are. The subliminal message was you must accept gays no matter what you think of their behavior.

So the big ELCA churches will all die like this one in Chicago but the gays will be openly accepted by the liberals and the liberal-guilt of the people who run the ELCA assuaged. Sad but they know they will ruin the church but they must press on with implementing the gay agenda even though they kill the church. Truly this is satanic.

1. The ELCA is already willingly ordaining gays. Openly gay seminarians have been at Luther Seminary in St. Paul for decades.
2. The issue has always been how to push this agenda. In the clerical publication “Seeds of Perish” this agenda and others (i.e.,abortion) have been formulated, tested and recrafted for at least 20 years.
3. The apostate left already controls the church apparatus ever since the formation of the ELCA and the ascendancy of Herbert Chilstom. His own son was gay and he sought to nullify Christian understanding of the sin rather than repent and seek faith based remedy. Sadly, his son commute suicide anyway.
4. I doubt that there are many believers left in the ELCA to actually oppose this measure with any force. It will, in fact, become SOP this time, or next.
5. Believers need to realize that the Synod, the Denomination, the church building itself have nothing whatsoever to do with Christ. The day when authority was going off the rails is long since past and this apostate church needs to die the death it has claimed for itself.

Excatly how do you ordain homosexuals in a Christian church?

This thread deals with the ELCA, not a Christian church.

You know... if I was in a denomination that even felt like it had to state a "stance" on that issue....

I mean, next, a "stance" on ordaining practicing rapists? Molestors? Murderers? Thieves? Buddhists? Atheists?

My usual disclaimer that the conservative Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod to which I happily belong is not affiliated with the ELCA, the very antithesis of Luther's Lutheranism.

Actually is is wrong in the eyes of God to considered same sex marriages. Read in Romans chapter in the holy bible in the new test. It will show you why.

I think your comment is directed at the wrong poster. I'm against same sex marriage and so is my Missouri Synod.

The homosexual agenda is the ELCA’s own indulgence.

Start with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod http://www.lcms.org or the "holding tank" for congregations leaving the ELCA, Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ http://www.lcmc.net.

Strange as a reform movement within a reform movement may sound, there is a pan-Lutheran (Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) oratory of biblically conservative, liturgically steeped clergy that has gathered for mutual support and to resist the tide of modernity.

I encourage you to check out the website of the Society of the Holy Trinity http://www.societyholytrinity.org Read the page on "The Rule" http://www.societyholytrinity.org/rule.htm, paying particular attention to the section entitled "Parish Practices".Members of the Society are deeply committed to the weekly Eucharist, Private Confession and Absolution, and the public recitation of the Daily Office

Then look at the membership directory http://www.societyholytrinity.org/stswebdirectory.htm to see if there are any STS members serving a congregation within a reasonable driving distance. Although not every parish is practicing every aspect of the Rule at this time, most subscriber clergy are committed to working toward those goals and have a deliberate plan to achieve them incrementally. These clergy would be delighted to receive visitors and/or new members who share those commitments.

Like you, they are somewhat embattled within their own denominations. They would welcome your support and you would benefit from their ministry.
