Screening Obama: White House looks to install new teleprompter, Prez to get fed info at press events
American Spectator ^ | 2.16.09 @ 6:09AM | the Prowler

Posted on 02/16/2009 7:23:23 AM PST by Behind Liberal Lines

the White House is looking to install a small video or computer screen into the podium used by the president for press conferences and events in the White House. "It would make it easier for the comms guys to pass along information without being obvious about it," says the adviser.

The screen would indicate whom to call on, seat placement for journalists, pass along notes or points to hit, and so forth, says the adviser.

Using a screen is nothing new for Obama; almost nothing he said in supposedly unscripted townhall events during the presidential campaign was unscripted, down to many of the questions and the answers to those questions. Teleprompter screens at the events scrolled not only his opening remarks, but also statistics and information he could use to answer questions.

Obama had a teleprompter set up for his remarks last week, before taking questions, but the White House couldn't use the teleprompter for anything but the remarks, because the journalists were so close to the screens. Further complicating matters, teleprompter copy can't be easily updated in real time, in a setting like a White House press conference.

Ok, r9, explain how this will work in “real life and death” discussions with world leaders.

1. Such discussions do not take place in front of a podium.

2. Answering reporters' questions is rarely "real life and death."

by his utter failure to use the Bully Pulpit to keep the American Home Front from being demoralized by the liberal news media and the Democrats.

How does a President use a pulpit that's been eliminated by the aforementioned liberal news media and the Democrats?

Very effectively, IF he is up to the job.

But again, what is intriniscally wrong with the idea of prompting a president on some of his answers?

Maybe the prompter should be President?

The idiots that voted for the Kenyan Klown didn't vote for the prompter.

I remember when the Dems accused Pres Bush of being prompted what to say at news conferences by Rove and Cheney by use of an ear prompter. This was proof to them that he was a total idiot.

Fast forward to today, Somehow using millions of dollars of a special Planet Blaster 3000 Computer Prompter and Informational Gathering Network shows how intelligent the new messianic Commander in Chief is.

Bush Bad, Obama Good.

Of course if the lefty wingnuts used the same logic that they did when they saw an earwig in Bush's ear during newsies, they would have to conclude that Bush's method was much more cost effective as opposed to Obama, who must use a massive computer system in order to sound intelligent and is being prompted also by unseen puppetmasters.

Hmmmmmm.

Reagan didn’t have to battle the 24/7 news media. No comparison.

**Now he’ll just have to look down.**

Maybe that will save him from the chronic neck pain resulting from having his “better-than-you” nose and chin in the air all the time.

The teleprompter is a hard indicator that he is not prepared, to which being fairly up to speed on all current “hot” subjects is a major part of the job.

If this rube can’t come across well without prompting in a news conference he sure as hell will strike out in discussions with relative equals.

Bush's mystery bulge: The rumor is flying around the globe. Was the president wired during the first debate?

Was Bush Wired? Sure Looks Like It.

I could go on, but it looks like the MSM cared when Bush was alleged to have been fed lines, but apparently won't care that Obama is being fed questions to their press answers.

Shoot, fire all the "journalists" we can get the new directly from the Ministry of Propaganda.

I told my state rep the other day that if ASU is complaining about budget cuts they can just close down the J School out there since the profession is no longer needed. He agreed.

Maybe the prompter should be President? The idiots that voted for the Kenyan Klown didn't vote for the prompter.

All of which assumes that a president (be it Obama or somebody else) has no opinion other than what appears on the teleprompter.

IMO, there's nothing intrinsically wrong with a president using a prompter -- it's just a tool, and if it permits more accurate or complete answers, I'd be all for it.

Where it can go awry is if it becomes an "instrument of theatre." I can definitely see Obama using it that way.

Not necessarily.

Again, not necessarily. I think you're letting your (justifiable) animosity toward Obama, color your interpretation of a what might well be a pretty useful tool.

♫Pull the string and I'll wink at you, I'm your puppet
I'll do funny things if you want me to, I'm your puppet
Mm. I'm yours to have and to hold
Darling, you've got full control of your puppet

Pull them little strings and I'll sign the bill, I'm your puppet
Snap your fingers and I'll turn you some flips, I'm your puppet
Mm, your every wish is my command
All you got to do is wiggle your little hand
I'm your puppet, I'm your puppet

I'm just a toy, just a funny boy
That makes you laugh when you're blue
I'll be wonderful, do just what I'm told
 I'll do anything for you

I'm your puppet, I'm your puppet

Just pull them little strings and I'll string ’em along, I'm your puppet
Make me do right or make me do wrong, I'm your puppet.
Mm, treat me good and I'll do anything
I'm just a puppet and you hold my string, I'm your puppet

His reasoning was this: ‘ Al Qaeda doesn’t have conscience they’re not interested in going back and springing these guys. They’re forgotten once they are put away in our federal facilities. He said, furthermore there are so many soft targets in the United States, like a shopping mall, why would Al Qaeda go after a hard target like a federal lock up or military prison, when they could choose a soft target.’

The U.S. official position is that it looks forward to "working with any government," but in back-channel messages the Obama administration has made it clear it would like to see a unity government in Jerusalem over a narrow right-wing government which would in all likelihood result in a freeze in peace talks with the Palestinians.
