1. Such discussions do not take place in front of a podium.
2. Answering reporters' questions is rarely "real life and death."
How does a President use a pulpit that's been eliminated by the aforementioned liberal news media and the Democrats?
Very effectively, IF he is up to the job.
Maybe the prompter should be President?
The idiots that voted for the Kenyan Klown didn't vote for the prompter.
With Soros’ hand stuck....
I’ll stop there.
Fast forward to today, Somehow using millions of dollars of a special Planet Blaster 3000 Computer Prompter and Informational Gathering Network shows how intelligent the new messianic Commander in Chief is.
Bush Bad, Obama Good.
Of course if the lefty wingnuts used the same logic that they did when they saw an earwig in Bush's ear during newsies, they would have to conclude that Bush's method was much more cost effective as opposed to Obama, who must use a massive computer system in order to sound intelligent and is being prompted also by unseen puppetmasters.
Reagan didn’t have to battle the 24/7 news media. No comparison.
**Now he’ll just have to look down.**
Maybe that will save him from the chronic neck pain resulting from having his “better-than-you” nose and chin in the air all the time.
The teleprompter is a hard indicator that he is not prepared, to which being fairly up to speed on all current “hot” subjects is a major part of the job.
If this rube can’t come across well without prompting in a news conference he sure as hell will strike out in discussions with relative equals.
I could go on, but it looks like the MSM cared when Bush was alleged to have been fed lines, but apparently won't care that Obama is being fed questions to their press answers.
I told my state rep the other day that if ASU is complaining about budget cuts they can just close down the J School out there since the profession is no longer needed. He agreed.
All of which assumes that a president (be it Obama or somebody else) has no opinion other than what appears on the teleprompter.
IMO, there's nothing intrinsically wrong with a president using a prompter -- it's just a tool, and if it permits more accurate or complete answers, I'd be all for it.
Where it can go awry is if it becomes an "instrument of theatre." I can definitely see Obama using it that way.
If this rube cant come across well without prompting in a news conference he sure as hell will strike out in discussions with relative equals.
Again, not necessarily. I think you're letting your (justifiable) animosity toward Obama, color your interpretation of a what might well be a pretty useful tool.
♫Pull the string and I'll wink at you, I'm your puppet
I'll do funny things if you want me to, I'm your puppet
Mm. I'm yours to have and to hold
Darling, you've got full control of your puppet
Pull them little strings and I'll sign the bill, I'm your puppet
Snap your fingers and I'll turn you some flips, I'm your puppet
Mm, your every wish is my command
All you got to do is wiggle your little hand
I'm your puppet, I'm your puppet
I'm just a toy, just a funny boy
That makes you laugh when you're blue
I'll be wonderful, do just what I'm told
I'll do anything for you
I'm your puppet, I'm your puppet
Just pull them little strings and I'll string ’em along, I'm your puppet
Make me do right or make me do wrong, I'm your puppet.
Mm, treat me good and I'll do anything
I'm just a puppet and you hold my string, I'm your puppet
Your walking, talking, dissin‘, jiving puppet
I'm hanging on a string,
I'll do anything, shuck you 'n' jive you
I'm your puppet♫

Obama has gone talk show.
Somewhere, somehow, another Joe the Plumber will slip in another zinger. The Zero Admin is trying to minimize that possibility.
Needs asking nevertheless,

He said he was not at all worried about the security of the American people in bringing the detainees here. Not in the least worried about that. His reasoning was this: Al Qaeda doesnt have conscience theyre not interested in going back and springing these guys. Theyre forgotten once they are put away in our federal facilities. He said, furthermore there are so many soft targets in the United States, like a shopping mall, why would Al Qaeda go after a hard target like a federal lock up or military prison, when they could choose a soft target.
Burlingame later added that Obama was non-committal about visiting Guantanamo Bay when she asked him

The U.S. official position is that it looks forward to "working with any government," but in back-channel messages the Obama administration has made it clear it would like to see a unity government in Jerusalem over a narrow right-wing government which would in all likelihood result in a freeze in peace talks with the Palestinians.

“The List” ping
Maybe George W Bush could type in the answers for him.
Wonderful how they portrayed the Capital as being the Kremlin.
Copy on the “OK, I’ll play the contrarian”.
You’re practicing the Brothers thing, talk ... talk ... talk with zero substance until everyone gets tired and walks away. BYE, BYE. Have a nice day.
I wonder how hard it would be to hack into the signal feed. Maybe we should ask the guys who did the Zombies ahead sign.
Just for the sake of continuing the discussion; in the spirit of transparency, (pun intended), I suggest that the teleprompter screen be displayed behind the President and all prompts be attributed to their authors. I think that would make for must see, appointment TV.
Do you see any down side to my proposal for the President of his administration? If he is not to be expected to know enough to get him through a presser, shouldn’t the people be allowed to know where he is getting his information from?
It’s different because it’s not a Republican. And not one of those cowardly SOBs in that DC press corps who grew up idolizing Bernstein and Woodward as the crusading journalists pursuing truth against the evil Nixonian regime and Sam Donaldson for his disrespectful manner with Ronald Reagan will say a word about this to Chairman Hussein.
But I thought Obama was BRILLIANT?
'cause it means he doesn't have a frgging clue about what is going on??
Your comment about President Bush “...he could not string two coherent sentences together if his life depended on it.”
Sometimes one ad-libbed sentence is enough...
When someone at Ground Zero yelled they couldnt hear him, Bush barked into a bullhorn: “I can hear you, the rest of the world hears you, and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon.
You know ... you just might consider giving up your day job to focus on becoming an evil genius. ;-)
Why doesn’t he just use the wristwatch teleprompter he used during the campaign?
Just a joke. You know, like our new president. ;-)
It’s 1984 (the Orwell version) all over again.
Do you really believe that most Americans spend 24 hours a day glued to the boob tube? The vast majority of the ones that are glued to the boob tube, are not watching cable news
The majority of Americans get their news once a day. The political junkies either get their left-leaning spin from MSNBC or their right-leaning spin from Hannity and Rush and from their favorite Internet political echo chamber.
Have you ever heard the term "contact embarrassment"? That is that cringing feeling of embarrassment for somebody else that you get when somebody is doing so badly that you want to leave the room or switch the TV channel or radio station. That is the feeling I have had listening to George W. Bush defending a position that I supported. It was so bad, I had to turn the car radio off.
I feel like I’m living a nightmare.
This brings to mind the commercial where the red phone rings at 3am in the presidents bedroom.
The president responds, "Ah um ah hello?"
"Ah um ah, general who?"
"Ah um ah, football?"
You cannot carry a war effort over the years with only one ad-libbed sentence you came up with before the first American shot in the war was fired.
The War on Terror may very well have been lost by Bush's inability to keep the American Home Front from becoming demoralized.
As I wrote in my last post:
"Have you ever heard the term "contact embarrassment"? That is that cringing feeling of embarrassment for somebody else that you get when somebody is doing so badly that you want to leave the room or switch the TV channel or radio station. That is the feeling I have had listening to George W. Bush defending a position that I supported. It was so bad, I had to turn the car radio off."
I wonder if he’ll have those tele-idiots to guide him when he’s meeting heads of states?
This guy is truly an embarrassment and what’s sad is he doesn’t know it.
Well, maybe that’s a good thing.
I’m off to see the Wizard, the phony Wizard of Oz.
He is a disgrace to this this country and a laughing stock of all other countries.
A puppet, with others pulling the strings. You can say he’s smart all you want. I don’t see a smart man when I look at him. I see a weakling controlled by a bunch of puppet masters.
What a bunch of moronic losers.
Precisely. . .Obama has extended the 'level playing field'. . .and it should be an embarassment for both him and 'particpants', world-wide.
The new teleprompter will coordinate answers to the pre-screened questions from hand-picked journalists
Don’t rule out that the press and some of the MSM doesn’t turn on him. They are a quirky, fickle group.
They won’t turn on him if they want to be invited back. He simply won’t tolerate dissention among the ranks.
If they are going to anticipate questions and formulate answers in advance for the use of the President, why not just post the questions and answers as FAQs on the White House website? Then both the press and the President could avoid the news conference, and never have to leave their offices!
Is he being built or falling apart? Sure hope it’s the latter.
