Senator Sherrod Brown took a private, taxpayer-funded plane from Cleveland to Washington and back so he could vote on the stimulus bill and get back to his mother's funeral the next day. Will he have to appear before Congress and be excoriated for flying on a private jet?

I really do not care that he flew on a private jet given the circumstances. You’d think someone would pick up on this and realize how bad it looks. More amateur hour at the White House, I guess.

We belong to the peasant class whilst the Senators and Congressmen/women and the Fraud in Chief and the First Frump are elite so therefore only the very best for them. Won't be long before they send out the thugs to collect our guns, and ladies your jewelry and anything else of value to beef up our depleted gold stores. We are a socialist country now and we have to donate these things for the good of the state..sack cloth and ashes for us, ( sarc)

Greta said she feels had that Pelosi and Co. rushed the vote of a bill nobody read so they could fly off to Italy in our military planes.

Many of these people are only interested in using the power of their office for their own selfish ends. Congress has become a corrupt joke.

We need to limit the income of the bankers who will rescue the econmoy to $500,000, but we paid millions to those who had oversight of the failure of Fannie Mae, that was fantastic! It is funny how Barry and the Dems reward performance.

http://tinyurl.com/3lq64d

From 1998 to 2004, the years covered by the OFHEO investigation, it was headed by former Clinton budget director Franklin Raines, whose top management team included former Clinton Justice Department official Jamie Gorelick, sometimes mentioned as a future attorney general in a Democratic administration. During that period, the report says, Raines and his team grossly overstated Fannie Mae’s earnings — to the tune of $10.6 billion — for the purpose of paying themselves big bonuses. “By deliberately and intentionally manipulating accounting to hit earnings targets,” the report says, “senior management maximized the bonuses and other executive compensation they received, at the expense of shareholders.”

Investigators found that of the $90.12 million Raines was paid in that six-year period, more than $52 million came from EPS bonuses.” Director Franklin Raines made $90 million in bonuses.

Gorelick’s situation was similar. OFHEO found that she took home $26.46 million in the period from 1998 to 2002 (she left in that year, so she wasn’t there for the entire period under investigation). Of that figure, nearly $15 million came from EPS bonuses.

Of course, it wasn’t legit.

This is not going anywhere, but the audacity of hubris is deafening.

While we’re at it (limiting CEO pay), let’s put a cap on speaking fees Clinton and Powell can take when giving speeches. Or on profits people can make on cattle futures. Or on salaries movie stars can command for making a movie. How about the head of Google? Let’s limit his pay. Let’s limit the gazillions a Ben & Jerry could make from selling their company. Heck, let’s nationalize Ben & Jerry’s.

In the Communist super state, all comrades are equal. Some comrades are a little more equal.

In Mao’s China, and in the Soviet Union, not to mention North Korea and Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge, prominent commissars always exercised special privileges. The direction in which America is presently headed could not be more clear. The constitution is dead, and the prevailing collectivist mindset insures that we will soon rival third world nations in our levels of government corruption, venality, and arrogance.

All the article refer to a ‘private jet’ ... if it was a military jet, it wasn’t ‘private’ and throws in a whole set of new questions. I am not familiar with ‘private jets’ going in and out of Andrews Air Force Base.

Hi all,
I wrote and sent the following to the White House and to both of my U.S. Senators:

During last year’s campaigns {then} Senator Obama promised the American People that the final version of any major new legislation would be available ON-Line for 5 days before the final vote. He implied that he would veto “instant legislation”. Pelosi & Reid. etc promised us 2 days to read the final version of any new legislation.

Yet , tonight some branch of our Government USED tax dollars to fly a sitting Senator back from his Father’s Wake! This was done to get than 60th Vote on a Bill that was only Hours Old.

That Flight was a bigger Abomination than when the Big 3 Auto Industry chiefs arrived in DC on separate private Jets. Whether the plane was a charter, military or other Government Craft, is unimportant. It was Waste, intentional and showy WASTE.
If you know any Senators that still want to punish industry for doing what Your Senate or White House just DID on the taxpayers dime; recognize their insanity. Try to get them to Re-Think “privilege” abuse.

They wouldn’t even understand the hypocrocy- because it is ok to spend other people’s money for a cause you pretend to believe in.

So the tax money from my capitalist job is taken to pay for a government plane so a commissar can vote to turn the country into a socialist paradise?

I hope I wake up from this nightmare before long.
