There IS something you can do.

Increase the numbers on your W4. Most people think it’s illegal to claim more exemptions than the “worksheet” allows, but that’s a falsehood that the form intentionally implies to the person filling it out.

Each exemption amounts to about $23 per pay period (according to my accountant). Bump it up around 10, and put that money in a savings account to pay your taxes next year.

They don’t get it, and you get interest - double win.

Save enough to pay the fine for underpaying.

If it comes to bullets flying, we need state sovereignty.

You don’t have to be fearful if you have information - like, pay an accountant for a half hour to go over your previous tax return and your current W4.

They WANT you to be afraid so that they’ll have your money all year for free.

Near as I can tell, the trigger is a different issue for many states. In Hawaii, it appears to be cannabis laws, for many its the freedom of choice act ... in NH, it's a list of issues, not limited to gun bans. I think the bottom line is that some people are getting fed up with the overstepping of the federal government. Your state government may very well carry out the same policies as the federal government does currently, but it would be a state's decision, and your voice is stronger in your state. Also, your state decisions, hopefully, more closely reflect the needs/attitude of your specific state. (And, underlying all that is your freedom to move to a state which more closely governs how you would like to live.)

Certainly bill-of-rights encroachment has been bothering me, but what completely tipped me over into wanting states to reject federal legislation that oversteps their constitutional limits was the health board provision of the stimulus bill. 12 bureaucrats deciding for my doctor and for me what medical treatment I could have was too much. Where in the specific powers granted to the feds in the constitution is the right to control health care of an individual citizen???

As for paying taxes, I love the idea of each state kicking in to the federal budget proportionally to their electoral votes, and citizens only paying taxes to the state. This looks to be in direct violation of amendment 16, but as an idea (and since this is just talk), I like it.

If a state did opt out, the probablity of some conflict is high.

The Civil War, for instance, started with the Fort Sumter incident. Ref:

But that was then and this is now, and I can’t see today’s liberal gutlessness leading to any kind of war other than a Major World War

Thank you, JustSurrounded, for answering my question.

I will be watching this, and I like your idea on taxation! Also, since my beloved husband is approaching 70 this fall, and is suffering from Parkinson’s, I fear for his medical future.

There is one drug he presently is taking that Medicare is balking at paying for, since it is not “in their book”, or something like that... very expensive, (around $350/per mo.) but has the potential to slow down the progression.

As it is, he is stuck in the “doughnut hole”, and we can only get through early fall before we have to pay cash. Parkinson’s drugs are not cheap!

A stately revolution brewing, the true ‘Hope’ in this mess we call democracy, if ever there was one. Thanks for posting.

To enslave a Republic, unjust laws must be written and enacted.

To save a Republic, unjust laws and tyranny must be cast away.

“another idiot from illinois”

You’re right but I think the states lost because they didn’t have moral standing because of slavery. God was against them. We don’t have that baggage now.

This is extremely important. This is the first step in a process that will make the stimulus bill, and anything else the feds do, void. It returns power to SC, and other states, that the feds have run away with.
