Russian Prime Minister Vladamir Putin has said the US should take a lesson from the pages of Russian history and not exercise excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the states omnipotence.
In the 20th century, the Soviet Union made the states role absolute, Putin said during a speech at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. In the long run, this made the Soviet economy totally uncompetitive. This lesson cost us dearly. I am sure nobody wants to see it repeated.
Sounding more like Barry Goldwater than the former head of the KGB, Putin said, Nor should we turn a blind eye to the fact that the spirit of free enterprise, including the principle of personal responsibility of businesspeople, investors, and shareholders for their decisions, is being eroded in the last few months. There is no reason to believe that we can achieve better results by shifting responsibility onto the state.
Putin also cautioned the US against using military Keynesianism to lift its economy out of recession, saying, in the longer run, militarization wont solve the problem but will rather quell it temporarily. What it will do is squeeze huge financial and other resources from the economy instead of finding better and wiser uses for them. Putins comments come in sharp contrast to Russias own military buildup and expansion.
Putin also echoed the words of conservative maverick Ron Paul when he said, we must assess the real situation and write off all hopeless debts and bad assets. True, this will be an extremely painful and unpleasant process. Far from everyone can accept such measures, fearing for their capitalization, bonuses, or reputation. However, we would conserve and prolong the crisis, unless we clean up our balance sheets.
The time for enlightenment has come. We must calmly, and without gloating, assess the root causes of this situation and try to peek into the future.
It is real I read about it a couple of weeks back.
If they want my guns and ammunition, I’ll give them the ammo first. Bullets first. From the barrel. They can take my gun after they’ve killed me.
Meanwhile, our adversaries are freaking out at the prospect that they will not have potent adversaries allowing them to defend their own stupid Economy and its premises.
That was my first reaction, that this must be a clever satire which somebody put together. But the text of the speech is on-line at the Wall Street Journal, and I consider it highly unlikely that the WSJ would be taken in by a fake.
I read the complete speech, and have to admit that I was impressed. Putin appears to have a much better grasp of the situation than Obama or McCain or Bush. Which tells you how pathetic our leadership is in the United States.
GOT YOUR BACK
Any of us who intermittently read Pravda.
Thanks for the link. It is sad when Putin has a better grasp of the situation for sure!
Wasn’t this once parodied on the Onion? It proves that you cannot parody liberals, they will eventually embarass you and everyone else by living up to the parody.
The Russian’s a worried.
If the U.S. falls into economic collapse, then they wont
be able to depend on our IMF money to bail them out...
Me too! It makes me wonder what else Putin knows ...Very depressing indeed.
Putin is more conservative than about 10% of the republicans.
Putin for president?
We have Obama, why not?
Makes me wonder also about his prediction that we’d split into 5 superstates.
This is all moving way too fast for me.
Splitting the USSA into 5 states would probably only be good. There’s a chance that one might actually consider governing by the US Constitution. I hope the state I end up in doesn’t keep Congress, though.
We spread so much wealth around the world, when our economy tanks so will theirs, which is happening. To the “gurus” that were always hyping the Eurocommies being so wonderful, ENJOY!!
Now back to work forming neighborhood groups listing our strengths and weaknesses preparing to maintain a smidgeon of sanity in a world gone mad, and we can do it too, real Americans will prevail...
When 40 years ago Nikita K. declared that “We’ll bury you!”, the statement made front page headlines. Putin’s statement will make it to page 13B, if we’re lucky. Unfortunately, they did bury us in marxism’s acolytes everywhere in the media and the academia, because that’s what old Nikita meant in the first place. Putty a Marxist? Are you kidding me? All the Marxists are in the West.
But this is their goal
