Mr. Holder, I live my life based on these words spoken 45 years ago in Washington D.C.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification; one day right there in Alabama, little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together. Unfortunately, Mr. Holder does not live his life by these words. He continues to judge by the color of one's skin rather than by the content of one's character.
Can racial-enlightenment-re-education camps be far off someplace in the future, after this kind of rhetoric?
I have always found it ironic that the two Senate office buildings are named after Richard Russell - the Democrat Senator who led the filibuster against the Civil Rights Act - and Everett Dirksen - the Republican Senator who overcame that filibuster to get the Civil Rights Act passed into law.
Russell would continue his segregationist ways just as Jimmy Carter would invite Lester Maddox to run on his gubernatorial ticket, while Dirksen would go on to write the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Republicans. Go figure.
