Palin Ordered To Pay Back Taxes

Alaska officials on Wednesday ruled that Alaska governor and former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin must pay back taxes to the IRS.

The exact amount the governor must pay is not yet known, but the Associated Press estimates she owes taxes on more than $17,000 in per-diem expenses.

State employees who live more than 50 miles away from Alaska's capital, Juneau, are entitled to state aid in the form of per-diem payments. Juneau is approximately 600 miles from Palin's home town of Wasilla, making the governor eligible for the payments.

But before she accepted the vice presidential nomination, Palin charged the state for over 300 nights spent in her Wasilla home, not the governor's mansion in Juneau. Her expenses usually amounted to $60 per day.

On Wednesday, Alaska state officials decided that the per-diem expenses should be counted as taxable income. Palin's spokesman, Bill McAllister, said the governor would pay the taxes.

At least it didn’t require nomination to a cabinet post to get back taxes paid

I read somewhere ( can’t remember where ), that Sarah Palin herself initiated the board to look into if she had to pay taxes on per diem.

Hilarious.

And predictable, with so many Obama appointees skipping on their taxes the MSM desperately needed to find a counterbalancing story involving Palin.

In two or three weeks there'll be a quiet retraction of this charge on page 28 of the NYT.

She should have known better.

Only Democrats are allowed to evade taxes with impunity.

What a BS story... no state can determine IRS (federal) policy on taxation.

They really put the BS in C-BS.

Watch the libs equate this to the libocrat’s sins.

Sorry MSM, won’t work. Some of us actually understand the difference between a mistake made by some with normal income vs an intentional violation made by those who were so much more “educated and experienced”.

If you want crooks, MSM, you might try looking into the Obamaloon’s Chief of Staff.

Notice that the estimate of 17K was from the AP itself.

Palin is the one who initiated this review. She was pro-active in trying to resolve this issue. Compare that to 0bama’s appointees.

Tell America to go to Hell. Drop out. Look at the mountains and stars. Hold your husband's hand.

They squeak and squeal when they see an ordinary cat, and this one hunts for meat.

Go Sarah!

Looks King Bari the Kenyan is going to follow in the footsteps of the other “first black president” and use the IRS as a weapon.

Yeah, I seem to recall this was dealt with some time back.

Makes me think there is going to be much, much more of these tax issues coming up in obamalot soon.

BS title. Its not “back taxes”...its simply taxes. This is not an old debt she knew about for a long time and simply did not pay like the typical Obama nominee, this is a tax that-as soon as she is told what it is-she will pay.

Sounds like it was only decided Wednesday that the income is taxable. It’s not like she’s avoided paying taxes.
