Glenn Beck: Media ignores Alaska's fiscal success during economic crisis
The Glenn Beck Program ^ | Feb. 18, 2009 | Glenn Beck

GLENN: Can anybody see that this stuff doesn't work? I mean, do we need to look past California? Can we stop and just look at California for a second? The entire state is near a shutdown. Lawmakers now can't come to an agreement on how to patch the gigantic hole in the budget. They are one short, one vote short to pass the budget. The state is poised to start laying off as many as 20,000 government workers. So you have some concept, the hole is so big, if they fired all employees, all state employees, they would only have half of what they need. If they shut down all prisons, that's only an extra 25%. They would still be 25% short.

But what I don't understand is how come California doesn't use Obamanomics? I mean, I really don't understand how come California just doesn't spend more. If they would just spend more, they could create more jobs.

How is this being portrayed in the media? Quote: Ideological Republicans won't adapt and are blocking progress. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a Republican and he helped negotiate this budget. Ideological Republicans won't help it pass. Of course in reality they're just saying, you know, the Republicans, "We can't cure our obesity by another year at Pizza Hut. Maybe we should hit Saladworks. Let's give that a whirl."

Well, there are some cuts in the budget, $15 billion worth, not insignificant. If you haven't believed me before when I say this is a crisis that is growing out of control, what else do you think would get Californians to cut their budget by $15 billion?

I hear ya man. I live here too and its a hell hole. And Glenn is right, the media will always ignore the great things Sarah has done for Alaska, they only report on garbage, God forbid they actually report that Alaska actually has money to SPARE, unlike our state which is bankrupt

The media is also ignoring Texas’ success. Texas has the only city in the CONUS predicted to be *adding* jobs this year.

The federal government won’t allow Alaska to drill in ANWAR, and their governor is vilified by the DC establishment and turned into a national joke by the US media.

Perhaps secession isn’t such a bad idea for Alaska. They could become a mini-Kuwait economically w/out the Muslims, and they could watch the rest drown with the idiot Obama leading us.

“Blue Encroachment” has been taking over all over the country...Look at the election maps, county by county they take over the states by controlling the big cities. And now the ‘Rats are trying to play games with the electoral-college so that the states EC goes to whoever wins the pop-vote nationally. A politician would only have to campaign in a dozen or so states to win....”fly-overs” would be permanantly forgotten.

We would seriously consider moving there if they seceded. Drive the Anchorage liberals crazy (hopefully to Hollywood) to have many conservatives show up to work in Alaska.

It is insane to have oil underground and not produce it. It must be the rich people, the same types who keep windmills from being set up off Cape Code.

Alaska receives more money from the federal government than any other state.

The vermin party controlled media know perfectly well that Alaska has been extremely successful under Governor Palin.

It is about “The Agenda”, not the truth.

Alaska does get a lot of Fed. $$. A lot of it is supposedly for homeland security - proximity to Russia and protecting our oil supply.

It is too bad California does not have oil reserves on land or off shore.

All they would have to do is drill and balance their budget.

Is that too simple for the Sierra Club West and the rest of the wackos to understand?

But, but, but it’s just a small state with little population and I bet they don’t allow “immigrants” to pick their veggies there so that just means Americans are doing the jobs American’s in the lower 48 won’t do...rolling my eyes at CA, what a waste of a natural beauty of a state...

Right. But the money also produces jobs, etc.

My point is, let’s not make Alaska out to be self-sufficient. It isn’t.

Conversely, California gets less back from the Fed than they said to Washington. Now, with the “big economy” states on the ropes, a lot of the “little economy” states are gonna suffer.
