Kalifornia is the 8th largest economy in the world. They should be self supporting and not need federal money.
But they aren’t.
Why? They spend money for things like healthcare and schools for illegal immigrunts.
They have the tighest vehicle inspection and emission laws in the US, requiring different vehicles than the rest of America uses. That costs more.
They import a considerable amount of their energy from outside California because they are scared to produce their own for fear of disturbing a diddlebug.
California has vast oil reserves offshore but won’t use the oil or the jobs oil production creates.
California has the highest tax rate in the US. They also have the highest minimum wage, the highest unemployment benefit, the highest paid state workers, the highest welfare benefits in the US.
California has the potential to be a great state, self sufficient, and great job opportunities. But when they tax business out of existance, tax the people extensively, and get too generous with the money they are going down the tubes. And they are probably too big to fail so we reward stupidity and irresponsibility??
I think the states with fiscal responsibility can do fine without california draining their success. Good managers (CEO’s) get many benefits and are well paid. Consequently bad managers should be jobless. We don’t have to put up with their excuses. Fire them. tough cookies. Accept responsibility for screwing up rather than pointing the finger of blame at Bush or whoever. Come back when you have learned something.
They actually could be self-supporting if they weren’t sending money to other states.
Federal Tax Burdens and Expenditures: Alaska is a Beneficiary State
Alaska taxpayers receive more federal funding per dollar of federal taxes paid compared to the average state. Per dollar of Federal tax collected in 2005, Alaska citizens received approximately $1.84 in the way of federal spending. This ranks the state 3rd highest nationally and represents a large rise from 1995 when Alaska received $1.21 per dollar of taxes in federal spending (then ranked at 17th highest nationally). The nearest states and the amount of federal spending they received per dollar of federal taxes paid were: Hawaii ($1.44), Oregon ($0.93), Washington ($0.88) and California ($0.78)
...and for California.
Federal Tax Burdens and Expenditures: California is a Donor State
California taxpayers receive less federal funding per dollar of federal taxes paid than the average state. In 2005, California taxpayers received only 78 cents in federal expenditures for every dollar in federal taxes. In 1995, by contrast, California taxpayers were receiving 94 cents in federal expenditures for each tax dollar.
Comparing the amount of federal taxes sent to Washington with the amount of federal spending coming back to the state
Maybe Alaska, that greedy oil-rich Alaska should bail California out. Well, they are. Alaskans are sending their money to Washington and Washington is sending it to California!
He's wrong. Just the opposite has been happening for decades. States like CA have been sending more money to Washington than they receive in return, while Alaska sends less than it receives. So, for decades, states like CA have been sending money to Washington, and Washington has been sending it to Alaska (not the other way around).
California politicians are to blame for putting the state in its current situation. But Alaska was never the independent state everyone seems to believe.
