Obama's Transportation Secretary Eyes Mileage Tax for American Motorists

Washington (AP) - Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says he wants to consider taxing motorists based on how many miles they drive rather than how much gasoline they burn -- an idea that has angered drivers in some states where it has been proposed.

Gasoline taxes that for nearly half a century have paid for the federal share of highway and bridge construction can no longer be counted on to raise enough money to keep the nation's transportation system moving, LaHood said in an interview with The Associated Press.

These idiots are trying to KILL the economy. They need to encourage commerce, not destroy it. If this tax goes through, NO ONE will be going ANYWHERE. And GPS to track my every move? NO WAY. What a bunch of dim-bulbed twits.

“panel suggested in December the state start charging motorists a quarter-cent for every mile as a substitute for the gas tax”

B.S.

The average car travels about 15,000 miles a year I believe. A quarter-cent per mile is only $37.50 a year. They have to be collecting far more than that via the gas tax per year per car. Substitute, my you know what...

Our masters keep pushing and pushing... Ever more intrusive, ever more demanding...

When does the revolution start?

These idiots don’t know how close they are to “the people” marching on W.D.C.

The Chicago Tea Party could easily become a reality!

They would most likely add the quarter-cent/mile ON TOP of state and federal fuel taxes.

$37.50 X 150 or so million vehicles adds up to a nice chunk of change....

If they know how far you drive, then they must also know when and where you drive. If they know mileage and elapsed time, then they know how fast you drove.

At a minimum, this is about automatic tickets and the revenue they produce.

Sure, you will still be able to drive, but you will have Big Brother riding shotgun.

There's the answer. Hire unemployed people to ride with us (to keep track of our mileage) and bring in some more illegals if we can't get unemployment high enough.

The s0cialist administration is just afraid to raise fuel taxes. Come on 0, just stand up and tell America you will tax everything without limit, and grow government beyond anyone’s wildest imagination.

It would take a decade or more for the feds to get something like this actually operational. GPS and other equipment in every car?
Downloadable information at gas stations? U-huh. Maybe when I'm eighty.

But if. . . and that's a big if.. . this thing ever comes to fruition, the Amish won't be the only ones with a horse and buggy.

Increasingthe fuel tax would be preferable. But these people want to know where you are and what you’re doing. Why? Historically, communist governments end up killing people they think are a problem or in the way. We live in a strange version of the Soviet Union. DumbO will kill people if he gets frustrated enough, I’m sure.

Besides a VMT tax, more tolls for highways and bridges and more government partnerships with business to finance transportation projects are other funding options, LaHood, one of two Republicans in President Barack Obama's Cabinet, said in the interview Thursday.

This man needs to be tarred-and-feathered and then drummed out of the GOP for life.

I feel better when I see that someone else gets just how demonically evil Obama is.

This is a misprint, what he meant to say was that the state start charging a QUARTER for every mile. (I wish this were sarcasm)
