‘Today’ Triple-Teams Santelli
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 02/20/2009 5:07:52 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

After his top-of-Drudge-worthy remarks [video] yesterday on CNBC, you knew Rick Santelli would be on NBC’s Today this morning. Perhaps equally predictable was that the man who argued against making the 92% of responsible Americans paying their mortgages bail out the 8% who aren’t would be subject to the third degree. Or in this case, a triple team.

Steve Liesman, also of CNBC, was there to take the other side, but he was clearly playing for the home team alongside Matt Lauer and Brian Williams, pinch-hitting for Meredith Vieira. Neither Lauer nor Williams hit Liesman, who favors the huge mortgage bailout, with one hardball. All the tough stuff was reserved for Santelli, who held his ground, although he did say he might have chosen a couple words [presumably about calling people in default "losers"] more carefully.

I just sent an email to GE Investor relations from their website. ‘ir.contacts@corporate.ge.com’ is the email address. Pointing out that it is time for MAtt LAuer to be gone and that I am willing to help that by getting rid of GE stock, not purchasing any GE products, and certainly not tuning in NBC Today Show other than to get sponsor info to send them emails regarding the same.

I wonder what the comparative numbers are of how many saw Santelli via the Drudge link versus how many saw the "Today" show. My gut tells me Obama lost this round.

I will take all the little victories we can get.

I just hope Santelli can keep his job.

his first report had a teabag in the background.

his second report had no teabag on the trader’s desk.

also CNBC manipulated his mike so you could not hear what the traders were saying in the backgound.

You just KNEW it was coming...

NO ONE can be allowed to question THE ONE. He will be demonized and destroyed now by the crazies on the left, and many in his own business.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he’s a victim in the next round of ‘cuts’. This IS NBC we are talking about.

Whatever the reason may be, it certainly isn’t “merit”.

Lauer suggested that this was the kind of sacrifice that the Bush administration had failed to ask of Americans...

OK. Let's play, Mr. Lauer. People who choose not to smoke should be made to make sacrifices for the people who do smoke. Dittos with alcoholics, gamblers, etc.

Ain't fairness a bitch, Matt?

Did you notice the reference to the “silent majority” in Santelli’s rant?

The responsible *are* the majority, 9 to 1. 5 of that 9 voted for Bambi (and by extension Geithner) and I’ll bet 3 of them regret it.

Until recently, most of us have been fully employed. No time to rock the boat, and in most cases nothing to be gained by rocking the boat.

That is changing at a frightening pace.

It will be interesting to see what happens when that 9 to 1 silent majority goes from silent to a dull roar, even.

And if we start covering our faces with bandanas and screaming and marching, Katy bar the door.

Santelli seemed to be somewhat subdued on CNBC this morning, and he was backing off some of his commentary about ‘losers’.

[Somebody got to him. His Tea Party may be fizzling into just that — tea and crumpets.]

IMO, CNBC loved the publicity. They featured his video on their website all day and added a poll to attract more visitors. If they weren’t “liking” all the publicity they would have pulled the video and there was no need to add a poll.

I wish Santelli explained to the NBC crowd that the 92% still in their homes are already sacrificing to do so.

Not quite sure "sacrifice" requires bailing out losers.

Drudge has been averaging nearly a million viewers per hour for the last month.

Yeah...but how many of those are because he has an auto-refresh on his page. Every three minutes you leave it on his page it reloads...another visitor. So if you leave Drudge up for an hour in a browser in the background, you just gave him 20 extra hits towards that million an hour.
I know he does it so the viewers...like me :)...get the latest updates whenever they bring it to the foreground, but it most obviously skews his real number of visitors.

Ping!

This reminds me of a line from "Silverado", when Kevin Kline and Scott Glenn are about to see a fight breakout in a saloon--one guy against three.

Kevin Kline: "Don't hardly seem fair does it?"

Scott Glenn: "Which way you mean?"

Santelli was absolutely right in his comments!!

What did the the wonder boys have to say about the interview between Neil Cavuto and the Rep. from Acorn who advocated her people “to continue to squat in their homes “ even though they could not pay their mortgages.

Isn’t she advocating breaking the law. The feds should stop giving money to people such as these ?

Heck, I know of a single liberal woman living in a 5 bedroom 4800 sq ft house.

I bet she’d give that up to a huge welfare family and move into a 1 BR apartment in the name of “social justice”.

The media needed to respond as it is fully supportive of you and me "sacrificing" our money and giving it to the government for its charitable works.

At some point people will rise up at losing the choice of which charities to support. The government is incompetent at so many things, why wold I want it to choose my charity?

Zero. The stat here is for "unique views" - not "hits". A hit is defined as someone loading the page. A unique view is a data point where there is a visit to a page from a single IP address. You could go to the page many times a day, but your unique view would only be logged once.

Watch for the Palin-Santelli 2012 Signs [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

I’ve had a case of deja vu today.

I’m noticing the tone. I’m seeing the enthusiasm. And I’m digging out from the sheer volume of e-mails I’ve been getting today about that CNBC dude. The reaction to Rick Santelli’s Chicago-trading-floor incident this morning echoes the emotional reaction my inbox had to Sarah Palin’s convention speech this summer.
