Have you seen the collection at the Getty Museum in LA? They have a royal bedroom.
Did you ever see what that stuff looked like BEFORE being veneered?
I have ~
The question was about modern restrooms available for general use throughout the facilities.
There's this story that courtiers competed for the right to carry the king's night soil ~ and that story could only arise at a time when the complex didn't have modern toilets ~ and before they got water in there ~ you did know they had to dig some ditches to deal with the local problems. One piece on the net says the king even thought of tapping the Loire, a very long distance away, to get enough of the right sort of water for the site.
Regarding "heads" obviously in the case of each noble family there was the current reigning "duc" or "count" or "viscount" or whatever, but they had a higher death rate than we do today. Louis XIV had that individual stay at Versailles. These individuals were required to furnish their own apartments AND they had to buy the furniture from Louis. Obviously they all had very nice stuff done by Boule, Louis ended with a nicely appointed, and somewhat uniform in appearance, palace.
And yes, more than one commenter over the centuries as noted that for all practical purposes the seat of government was Versailles ~ not some other place ~ and noting that the Official Mistress had her apartments there, I'd suggest they are correct and you are off base.
You should read her diary some time.
