You might think that Cal Thomas, as a cultural conservative, would be among the least likely of pundits to call on Sarah Palin to get out of the spotlight for the time being. But Thomas did just that on Fox News Watch this evening.
The topic at hand was Greta Van Susterens interview of Bristol Palin, and the way the MSM focused on Bristols comment that abstinence is not realistic at all. Cal was displeased that our culture treats having a child before or after marriage as morally equivalent choices. But his call for the Palinswhich would clearly include Sarah as well as Bristol to get out of the limelight, seemed to go beyond the subject of out-of-wedlock childbearing.

Maybe we could get Kal to leave for a while.
Cal Thomas calls on Palins to “get off the air for awhile” ping to Today show list.
Yep. Exit Stage Left.
Cal gave his opinion, agree or disagree, that in his day a proper young lady in Bristol’s situation was supposed to hide away in shame.
Should Bristol have disappeared?
What does he want Governor Palin to do? Resign as the governor of Alaska? Sorry Cal. We need her right where she is.
Hey Cal, dumbass, it’s the frickin’ socialist media who keep her on stage.
I’m sure she would love for the retards to leave her and her family alone.
Gov Palin is one of my favorite politicians.
However the MSM seems to have a bug up their azz
regarding her. They never seem to let an opportunity to go by to show her in bad light. Only FOX news gives her fair to good exposure. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC are all against her it seems.
Bill Bennett was saying more or less the same thig the other morning. I know what Bristol said about teen sex wasn’t what they tried to teach her at Wasila Bible Church.
I think he’s right on the single mothers, it’s far too accepted today and it shouldn’t be. But he’s not right that Sarah should hide away because her daughter sinned. She has her own life to lead and her daughter will have to find her own way now. I just wish that way included MARRIAGE.
I do think Bristol should have gotten married when she learned she was pregnant, since she claimed she was so devoted to her boyfriend and he to her. It does reflect badly on Sarah’s conservatism that her own daughter doesn’t seem to realize the biblically right thing to do is to get married. There has been ample time to do what God would have Bristol do. Why the delay until after the baby is born? Right now the baby is illegitimate and that used to be a stigma and rightly so.
She has to restore her reputation because she was trashed by the media. She did ONE interview out of 500 pending requests!!
If Cal doesn’t understand that he needs to go away.
Several have appeared in as many days.
Corroborating the "dots", this is from two days ago.
Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney
Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?
Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?
Romney Supporters Trashing Palin
Romney advisors sniping at Palin?
Similar to Romney's other scortched earth tactics:
Novak: Fred Thompson drop-out rumors traced to Romney campaign
Spoken like a 17 yr. old bimbo.
Not much different than Meghan McCain’s daughter, trashing Michael Steele and Sarah Palin.
As if these spoiled children are now experts on any given topic.
Geez, their jealousy sure does show these days doesn’t it?? Amazing. Sorry boys (Cal and Bill), many of us happen to support her, matter of fact I’d like to see more appearances of Sarah Palin and Todd too, especially when they’re doing things for Alaska, MORE THAN MY GOVERNOR IS DOING (Rick Perry, Mr. Goodhair).
You see, they do REAL stuff like reducing taxes, cutting government spending, helping the people out in the Alaskan tundra, out in the snow, cold, ice, wind, rain while Perry minces around in all the comfort possible, never answering to anyone...
In the long run, her NOT marrying a loser might turn out to be the best thing for the baby. Being a single mother is far from ideal, even with a supportive family, but a bad marriage is harder to recover from. In a couple of years, Bristol might meet a nice man with an education and a future.

Gov. Palin stands leagues above the Arizona-loser and the rest.
bttt
To only give interviews to her local media for a year or so. She needs some time to repair the damage done by Couric, Gibbs and other MSM jackals.
She should, as quietly as possible, take some trips abroad. This could be done under the guise of foreign trade, investment and fact finding trips. Clearly, she needs a better grasp on the complexities of foreign relations and direct interaction with foreign heads of state is just what the doctor ordered.
And lastly, she should put a muzzle on any and all of her family. It doesn't help her cause to have her teenage daughter pontificate about explosive, complex domestic policy on national television.
I hope Cal enjoys the money that he made with a professional liar.
I heard that exchange tonight and will defend Cal. His point was simply that in today’s society all lifestyles are accepted and glorified. As for the Palin family—a little mystery is always a good thing.
Lots of wisdom here. She should just issue the occaisional press release about stuff in Alaska for awhile. And spend more time educating her daughter.
Well, you know how cult members are.
Agree one thousand percent. I will not be judging her by her daughter’s disrespectful behaviour.
As for McCain’s daughter. All that fame and fawning by the msm has given her delusions of importance.
She has a right to her opinion but she is not speaking from experience or intellect.
During the interview, Sarah herself said abstinence was naive. How about we focus our debate on her response rather than bashing a clueless teenager?
Cal, it’s a free country. If you, or anybody else in the media, doesn’t want to write or talk about the Palins, just stop. Just do it. Spare me the whole “I wish I knew how to quit her” act. I’ve heard it since the inauguration, since the election, in some cases since the nomination. I don’t believe it anymore.
I sympathize with Cal. They are beginning to remind me of the Clintons. She lost. It’s over. Go back to being governor.
A reminder about the conservative truth regarding children born out of wedlock. It is a shameful and amoral thing to do:

Reducing Poverty by Revitalizing Marriage in Low-Income Communities: A Memo to President-elect Obama
by Robert E. Rector
Special Report #45
President-elect Obama, the collapse of marriage is the most important social problem facing the nation. When the War on Poverty began in the 1960s, 7 percent of U.S. children were born outside of marriage. Today, the number is 38 percent. Among blacks, it is 69 percent. You are in a unique position to reverse this alarming trend.
The decline of marriage is a major cause of child poverty. Roughly two-thirds of poor children live in single-parent homes. Marital collapse is also a major contributor to welfare dependence: Each year, government spends over $250 billion for means-tested welfare benefits for single parents.
When compared to similar children raised by two married biological parents, children raised in single-parent homes are more likely to fail in school, abuse drugs or alcohol, commit crimes, become pregnant as teens, and suffer from emotional and behavioral problems. Such children are also more likely to end up on welfare or in jails when they become adults. (snip)

Inside the Beltway “conservative” noise. That’s all it is. Drinking water from the Potomac eventually gets them. All of them...
How exactly do they remind you of the Clintons ? I’m quite curious.
It's called free speech. We will be losing that freedom soon enough under the now Adm.
this comes to mind... I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. ...
I want her to stay on the stage...
..Sarah, and a few others, give me hope!
Simple... The Clintons won’t go away. Palin won’t go away. The election is over. She lost. If she wants to run again in 2012, that’s one thing, but I don’t want to hear about her latest exploits every day for the next 4 years. You’d think that she’d realize that it’s not a good strategy, too, but apparently not.
Good find! Surprising what turns up in search!
Thanks for the links, Diogenesis. Fascinating.
First off, SHE wasn’t on the ballot as a stand alone, so it was McCain who lost. One on one against Biden, she’d have had a far greater shot at VP. Secondly, you’re forgetting something else, and that being the media is keeping her more in the spotlight for the purposes of harming her for 2012, not to sing her praises, so a lot of that is simply out of her control. But either way, she’s our most prominent Governor now, she’s not an ex-politician, and she’s not going away anytime soon unless she resigns and moves to an igloo in the suburbs of Nome.
Palin/Romney, now you are on to something. Although I would prefer Romney/Palin.
I do not want to see anyone, male or female, rushed into marriage. No one has to do that to please me. I am sorry that the world is not perfect, and all of the people in it.
Stewart should’ve worn a piece on TNG. If they have warp drive but can’t cure male-pattern baldness 400 years in the future, that’s just pathetic.
Bingo! I owe you a beer!
How nasty to brand an infant with a stigma when the infant had no say in the matter. That was disgusting.
If you are pro-life, then you support the birth of the baby as bringing life into the world. Frankly it is none of our business whether she married him or not. It is her business. I would rather she have the baby and be a single Mom then rush into marriage because she was pregnant. Poor reason to get married.
I agree that the media is rolling her, but she’s letting them do it, even helping them. If she wants to have any chance in 2012, she’s got to get off the log now, before she goes under.
Why would an accomplished Conservative Governor like Sarah Palin run with a Socialist failure like Slick Willard ?
She doesn’t control the media. Asking any Republican to control the media is like asking them to control the Democrat party. The media knows she is the lead candidate for 2012, and they’re not going to let up.
