Cal’s Surprising Suggestion: ‘I Wish The Palins Would Leave The Stage For Awhile’
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 02/21/2009 5:01:15 PM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

You might think that Cal Thomas, as a cultural conservative, would be among the least likely of pundits to call on Sarah Palin to get out of the spotlight for the time being. But Thomas did just that on Fox News Watch this evening.

The topic at hand was Greta Van Susteren’s interview of Bristol Palin, and the way the MSM focused on Bristol’s comment that abstinence “is not realistic at all.” Cal was displeased that our culture treats having a child before or after marriage as morally equivalent choices. But his call for “the Palins”—which would clearly include Sarah as well as Bristol— to get out of the limelight, seemed to go beyond the subject of out-of-wedlock childbearing.

I do not want Romney anywhere near the White House. I learned far more than I ever wanted to know about him when he was running for President. I would support Sarah if she decides to run.

“Palin/Romney, now you are on to something. Although I would prefer Romney/Palin.”

I vote for neither. We need new blood.

It is called rank hypocracy.

Every time Palin people want to bash Romney, they try to cover themselves by bashing Romney for what he never did, bash Palin.

You are right. I have had 4 gals in the family to get pregnant within a very short time. I did not like or support what they did but the babies had nothing to do with how they were born. Unconditional love from me to them.

Teen idols as Roy Rogers? You mean like Sky King and Range Ryder?

Penny, I doubt anyone today, except Trigger, knows any of them, Kemosave.

I agree with Cal.

Sarah and her family should keep a low profile till it's time to get back in the game.

We know who she is...and won't forget her.

We have three more years to start a new campaign and Sarah will be fresh and ready to roll by then..IMHO.

Should Bristol have disappeared?

No, but she didn't have to appear on FOX and say that abstinence was "unrealistic."

Sarah Palin has undeniable natural talent and charisma. Even Bubba Clinton recongnized this. The problem is she is still very green, and you wish she could just grow a little politically in the shadow of anonymity for a while. This seems to be what Bobby Jindal is doing. The inevitable rookie mistakes won't stain his political image. It would beneficial for Sarah if she could just fade into the shadows for a while.

It's a bit like the top QB prospects is football. These guys come out of college and they've got huge talent. Then they get thrown in over their heads and don't get the kind of gradual development that any neophyte needs. They get overwhelmed by the fine points of the game, get burned out, and leave the game after four or five seasons. I'd hate to see a political version of that play out with Sarah Palin. She's got raw talent, but you hope she doesn't burn out from overexposure (and, let's admit it, some big "rookie gaffes"--did you see the first Couric interview? It was really bad).

I think that there are very strained relations between this ma and her daughter. Her daughter is doing everything she can to crush her mom.

Roy and Dale were family heroes for something they did for my older nephew who is 2 years younger than I. I loved Sky King, and all the other shows of that era. That is why I have this old cowboy western music on my other monitor all of the time that I am on the internet or in this area. Heck, I even watch Leave it to Beaver now. Gunsmoke was another favorite of mine and I had no idea that Festus could sing like he did until I started listening to this internet station. He had a fantastic voice.

I do not remember anything about unprotected sex. I have a friend who got pregnant on the pill because she was taking an antibiotic. Her dr. or pharmacist should have told her when she picked up the prescription because mine asks all kinds of questions about the new drug and others that I am taking.

Slightly OT, but I remember before AIDS, Planned Parenthood seriously dissed condoms as being ineffective in preventing pregnancy. After AIDS, Planned Parenthood was giving those things out like candy. I remember having to deal with PP in my official duties, and one of them slapping fruit flavored condoms onto my hand. I told her I was married and faithful, and she wagged her finger at me and grinned saying, "You never know what the Missus has been up to." I never got a girl pregnant, but remember when I was single seeing the shattered condom looking like the remains of a battle flag. Had a couple of VERY uneasy months.

I also knew a guy who's vasectomy reversed itself. He knocked a girl up. You mentioned the effects of antibiotics on the pill. Only way to be sure is to not do it.

I say stay on the front lines as long as your causing harm to the enemy. But dear Sara has got to get her rear areas secured. Can’t keep hearing about her daughter’s pride in being a slut.

Sara needs to be able to preach what she practices and that includes rearing children in the way of the Lord. It ain’t easy but then neither is being President. If she were a demonrat it wouldn’t matter .... but she ain’t and it does.

It takes time to plan a wedding! And just because Bristol said in an interview that abstinence didn’t work for her, doesn’t mean it can’t work for other people. It’s just the mainstream MSM media saying her mom is for it and trying to make her look like some hick rube like they always do, but Sarah will outsmart them like SHE always does.

Come on Cal(low) why not just go ahead and say "Those damn women should know their place". While showing the back of your hand.

Keep it up and you'll surely get your invite to the He Man, Woman Haters Club.

Simple... The Clintons won’t go away. Palin won’t go away. The election is over. She lost. If she wants to run again in 2012, that’s one thing, but I don’t want to hear about her latest exploits every day for the next 4 years.

Then stay away from the Palin threads. Stop watching anything regarding Palin, change the channel, or simply turn the page! It's very simple!

I know you want to make this about Sarah, but this has nothing to do with her. The interview was given by her daughter, and the media isolated a couple of words to bolster their negative agenda against Sarah.

I and many thousands of Americans like to hear what Sarah has to say. So it works out well for all of us. We can keep reading and posting on the Palin threads, and you can stay away from them.

We don't want to read your whining posts, either. And that goes for all those anti-Palin types who keep bitching about how bad Palin and her daughter are, and yet they can't stay away from the Palin threads.  In fact, they are quick to post their negative comments on the threads. Oh yeah, freedom of speech and all that.  Well, the same goes for the Palins. They have the freedom of speech to speak their minds.

If anyone doesn't want to read or hear what Palin said, then just don't read it!

Should Bristol have disappeared?

Last I heard, Bristol wasn't running for public office. She's a private citizen and can do whatever the hell she wants. What's the matter with you morons? You gonna let the whorehouse media tell you what to think about Sarah's kid? Sheesh.
