Soldier Refuses Second Tour of Duty to Iraq
WBAY TV ^ | 2/21/2009 | Adam Aaro

Posted on 02/21/2009 8:22:18 PM PST by Thunder90

A Green Bay soldier was supposed to catch a flight Friday morning taking him back to active duty in Iraq, but he intentionally missed it because he says the war is immoral.

Specialist Kristoffer Walker and his wife Sierra enjoyed Friday night at home together -- a night they weren't supposed to be together.

"Early this morning I made a decision not to go back to Iraq," he told us Friday.

Spc. Kristoffer Walker, 28

Lt. Col. Nathan Banks, an Army spokesman at the Pentagon, said Walker did not follow military procedure by filling out paperwork to list himself as a conscientious objector.

“His unit is counting on him,” Banks said. “He’s actually turning his back on his battle buddies. By just not reporting, you’re letting down your teammates. When you raise your right hand to defend the country, you knew there was a time you could possibly be deployed.”

Walker said he hasn’t pursued conscientious objector status because it would be futile.

He says he served one tour after the Sept. 11 attacks and re-enlisted as a reservist. But he says he has since concluded the Iraq war is "an illegitimate, unnecessary campaign" and he shouldn't have to take part.

Walker said he doesn’t fit the military’s definition of a conscientious objector, because he sees a legitimate purpose for warfare, as in retaliating when attacked.

He said he put in a request in December for a transfer out of Iraq, but it was denied. When he pursued it again, he said the effort ended the day before he left on leave, when he got an angry response that left him little hope of getting the request considered.

And yet, all of the unborn that will not be born cry out. Despite democratic wishes to murder a lot of the population by abortion, all of the murdered will be heard and loved by the G-d of Abraham, Issac and Jacob....this soldiers reluctance is understandable, but he will experience many changes as well...Thank G-d, he has a choice. It’s called “Missing a Movement”, Artical 87 in the UCMJ. Since it is by design, and not neglect, 2 years.
Desertion, Article 85, 5 years
AWOL, Article 86, depends on how long absent, however I would be surprised if the JAG’s charge with this since it would be a slap on the wrist. Article 86 likely the minimum, but you never know with this administration (BTW, I’m a civilian, Article 88 does not apply, however I am still blaspheming the Zero).

This moonbat should read up on these two men, both conscientious objectors, who found ways of serving their nation in times of war and in doing so they earned the Medal of Honor.

Private First Class Desmond Doss
Rank and organization: Private First Class, United States Army, Medical Detachment, 307th Infantry, 77th Infantry Division.
Place and date: Near Urasoe Mura, Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, April 29, 1945 – May 21, 1945.
Entered service at: Lynchburg, Virginia
Birth: Lynchburg, Virginia
G.O. No.: 97, November 1, 1945.
Citation:
He was a company aid man when the 1st Battalion assaulted a jagged escarpment 400 feet (120 m) high. As our troops gained the summit, a heavy concentration of artillery, mortar and machinegun fire crashed into them, inflicting approximately 75 casualties and driving the others back. Pfc. Doss refused to seek cover and remained in the fire-swept area with the many stricken, carrying them 1 by 1 to the edge of the escarpment and there lowering them on a rope-supported litter down the face of a cliff to friendly hands. On May 2, he exposed himself to heavy rifle and mortar fire in rescuing a wounded man 200 yards (180 m) forward of the lines on the same escarpment; and 2 days later he treated 4 men who had been cut down while assaulting a strongly defended cave, advancing through a shower of grenades to within 8 yards (7.3 m) of enemy forces in a cave's mouth, where he dressed his comrades' wounds before making 4 separate trips under fire to evacuate them to safety. On May 5, he unhesitatingly braved enemy shelling and small arms fire to assist an artillery officer. He applied bandages, moved his patient to a spot that offered protection from small arms fire and, while artillery and mortar shells fell close by, painstakingly administered plasma. Later that day, when an American was severely wounded by fire from a cave, Pfc. Doss crawled to him where he had fallen 25 feet (7.6 m) from the enemy position, rendered aid, and carried him 100 yards (91 m) to safety while continually exposed to enemy fire. On May 21, in a night attack on high ground near Shuri, he remained in exposed territory while the rest of his company took cover, fearlessly risking the chance that he would be mistaken for an infiltrating Japanese and giving aid to the injured until he was himself seriously wounded in the legs by the explosion of a grenade. Rather than call another aid man from cover, he cared for his own injuries and waited 5 hours before litter bearers reached him and started carrying him to cover. The trio was caught in an enemy tank attack and Pfc. Doss, seeing a more critically wounded man nearby, crawled off the litter; and directed the bearers to give their first attention to the other man. Awaiting the litter bearers' return, he was again struck, by a sniper bullet while being carried off the field by a comrade, this time suffering a compound fracture of 1 arm. With magnificent fortitude he bound a rifle stock to his shattered arm as a splint and then crawled 300 yards (270 m) over rough terrain to the aid station. Through his outstanding bravery and unflinching determination in the face of desperately dangerous conditions Pfc. Doss saved the lives of many soldiers. His name became a symbol throughout the 77th Infantry Division for outstanding gallantry far above and beyond the call of duty.

Corporal Thomas W. Bennett
Rank and organization: Corporal, United States Army, 2d Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division
Place and date: Chu Pa Region, Pleiku Province, Republic of Vietnam, February 9, 1969 – February 11, 1969.
Entered service at: Fairmont, West Virginia.
Born: April 7, 1947, Morgantown, West Virginia.
Citation:
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Cpl. Bennett distinguished himself while serving as a platoon medical aidman with the 2d Platoon, Company B, during a reconnaissance-in-force mission. On 9 February the platoon was moving to assist the 1st Platoon of Company D which had run into a North Vietnamese ambush when it became heavily engaged by the intense small arms, automatic weapons, mortar and rocket fire from a well fortified and numerically superior enemy unit. In the initial barrage of fire, 3 of the point members of the platoon fell wounded. Cpl. Bennett, with complete disregard for his safety, ran through the heavy fire to his fallen comrades, administered life-saving first aid under fire and then made repeated trips carrying the wounded men to positions of relative safety from which they would be medically evacuated from the battle position. Cpl. Bennett repeatedly braved the intense enemy fire moving across open areas to give aid and comfort to his wounded comrades. He valiantly exposed himself to the heavy fire in order to retrieve the bodies of several fallen personnel. Throughout the night and following day, Cpl. Bennett moved from position to position treating and comforting the several personnel who had suffered shrapnel and gunshot wounds. On 11 February, Company B again moved in an assault on the well fortified enemy positions and became heavily engaged with the numerically superior enemy force. Five members of the company fell wounded in the initial assault. Cpl. Bennett ran to their aid without regard to the heavy fire. He treated 1 wounded comrade and began running toward another seriously wounded man. Although the wounded man was located forward of the company position covered by heavy enemy grazing fire and Cpl. Bennett was warned that it was impossible to reach the position, he leaped forward with complete disregard for his safety to save his comrade's life. In attempting to save his fellow soldier, he was mortally wounded. Cpl. Bennett's undaunted concern for his comrades at the cost of his life above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

Slightly off subject, but there was a remarkable piece (I think ABC) on tonight's evening news. It turns out, that NOT showing the coffins come back perhaps isn't such a bad idea - I about threw up.

Since Barry has decided that he hasn't decided about photographs of returning coffins. Although,in his campaign, it was a central theme during his early primary contests. It seems in accomplices in the MSM are going to cover his ass either way he goes. It was pathetic.

Also, be ready for a dishonorable discharge, all loss of benefits and a black mark on your record that will dog you forever (once on the internet, always on the internet...and lots of HR depts do background checks and trust me, this will stick out like a sore thumb).

So don’t go bitching when job interviews go unanswered and the only places that will hire you are dead-end jobs.

Exactly. Nobody wants to be the last person killed in Iraq. Everyone knows that Obama is going to start bringing them home. Jeez! Nobody is going to ask anybody to stick their neck out. He only needs to keep his head down and ride it out instead of screwing up everything with time in the brig and a BCD (same as a felony) and loss of all veterans' benefits. If he goes back now, he might only be looking at NJP and losing a stripe. He needs to pull his s**t together!

Just saw the HBO movie, "Taking Chance". The story of Marine Lance Corporal Chance Phelps.

The world of difference is striking.

I cannot make a snap judgment at this moment since the film has had quite an emotional influence on me, and my family.

I can say God bless these men and women who sacrifice so much and ask so little for love of country and family. I'll not ask where we find such men and women. I am deeply humbled and exceedingly proud that I can call them my countrymen.

No, not Nation building. I'm talking about the results, not the original intent.

We topple a Dictator that was a Regional threat, and the result is freedom for the people.

We depose the Taliban who protected the Terrorists that attacked us, and the result is freedom for the people.

The One was not there when either of these wars started, but his decisions will affect the people in those countries for generations to come.

While Sergeant York did start out as a CO, he ended up picking up the rifle and fighting the Germans. PFC Doss and Corporal Bennett were still CO's during the events that led to their receiving the Medal of Honor.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Sergeant York, in fact he is one of my favorite military heroes, but Doss, Bennett, and the four chaplains who have been awarded the MOH did so without picking up a weapon.
