Richard Roeper plays percentages. (Oscar predictions)
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | 2/21/09 | Richard Roeper

Mark my words, or mock my words. "Slumdog Millionaire" will take home eight Oscars, "Benjamin Button" will win a handful of technical awards, Heath Ledger is the biggest lock of the night and Kate Winslet will win for the wrong role in the wrong movie.

(cut)

Let’s take a look at my predictions for all 24 trophies that will be handed out Sunday. In the major categories I'll speculate on the percentage of votes that will go to each of the five contenders. (And just because I predict an actor will get a tiny percentage of the votes doesn't mean I don't have enormous respect for the actor and the performance.)

Remember: these are my PREDICTIONS, not my preferences.

“Slumdog Millionaire" ˜ 70%

“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" ˜ 15%

The only way I would watch even a clip of the Oscars is if Sean Penn walks on stage and self-immolates. Now, that would be something I could enjoy watching.

I hope Benjamin Button wins the best picture. Ok it is the only one of the five I saw but it also seems to be the only family movie of the bunch.

Who gives a crap. They ostracized Eastwood. I loved Gran Torino!

I wish Hollyweird would take a lesson from Jonestown, Guyana, and drink the kool-aid once and for all.

Michael Medved said that SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE was a fine movie...However, he was more enthusiastic about GRAN TORINO. (It was not nominated for Oscars.)

I hope that Mickey Rourke wins...I like his story...He had ups and downs in his life...Now, he apparently gave a performance worthy of an Oscar. Sean Penn already won an Oscar a few years ago...for MYSTIC RIVER.

“You wanted to see the real India. Here it is,” Jamal tells the Americans.

“Well, here’s the real America,” the woman replies, pulling out a hundred-dollar bill for Jamal.

What else would you expect, considering the hero of the film is a white male who thrashes minorities throughout the entire movie (never mind that they deserve everything he did to them, and more).

BUTTON is the only nominated film which is rated PG-13.

My wild guess is that more Americans watched BUTTON than any of the other nominated films...

I would bet you are right. Of course, Hollywood will probably give it a low score for being PG13 and family friendly. lol. Can’t have that type of movie win an Oscar.

Is Gran Torino a 2008 movie or a 2009 movie?

It’s a 2008 movie and just like Taken, available for download on the web on DVD Rip format.(even though the DVD versions are not available).

Fantastic movie and deservedly the last of Clint’s movies.

Button is the same movie as Forest Gump. It(Button) should not be nominated for awards.

Wiki already has the 2008 winners listed.

Best pic: Benjamin Button

Best actor: Brad Pitt

etc.

Makes you wonder if they know something we don’t.

With exception to “The Reader”. Blame Society Films is one of my favorite You Tube groups to watch, along with Red State Update.
