Posted on 02/23/2009 5:02:20 AM PST by paulycy
The guests at Sunday evening's black tie White House dinner for the nation's governors feasted on servings of Chesapeake crab agnolottis, wagyu beef, Nantucket scallops and huckleberry cobbler for dessert. But thanks to First Lady Michelle Obama, a bit more of the day-to-day eating habits of the new family living at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave has been learned.
"There are some mean waffles and grits that are made in the morning that have become a regular staple for some of us," Obama said. But she didn't reveal exactly for who that breakfast pairing has become a morning favorite. Though she was quick to add that she's not the one who eats waffles every day

Leggo’ my ego.
And if I meant to say “Eggo”, I would have typed it that way.
I may vomit! The woman who orders room service lobster and champagne at a fancy hotel eats waffles and grits? What a blatant pandering to the black electorate. Pretty soon the electorate won’t be able to afford the electricity to cook those waffles and grits.
I would think peanuts would be a favorite so that the media could fight each other over who got to pick them out of his $h!t
Yep. And who said the following?
“We are all in this together and and need to pitch in”.
It is time to overthrow teh ruling class. This is getting to look like Venezuela. Socialism, fool the stupid underclass into silly adoration by promising a handout, nationalize a free market economy, while thumping one’s chest loudly.
It's good to see them saving some taxpayer money! /s
Predict Obama will be 20 lbs heavier in a year. Michelle will be working out with Oprah.
What about the sausage links ‘chelle ? Huh?
and the dog.
Granny Clampet is in the kitchen.
Yeah, and white people put mayonnaise on everything, right?
"What is a grit?"
What? No nasi goreng, no chicken satay? Those are childhood favorites, are they not?
Two of MY favorites come summertime.
I thought we purged that from the system in the ‘70s. :)
the WH must be getting a deal on Wagyu steak- they bask in that $100 a pound luxury item, don’t they. Is wagyu steak the new “green” favorite since they fished out all the chilly sea basses??
Most of us buying 85% lean hamburger- maybe they ought to serve it and give us some WH recipes
What a great movie. It was on yesterday. I have to go into a neighboring county today to argue a motion in front of a judge whom I’ve never met. Opposing counsel was literally born across the street from the courthouse. I was thinking about wearing cowboy boots but maybe that would be too much. I live in a suburbian county and this is a largely rural county.
Gosh. She’s SO much like Regular Folk I can’t hardly believe it!
‘Cept we’re all eating waffles because it’s ALL WE CAN AFFORD. *SPIT*
Extensive fat marbling in slices of high-grade wagyu beef served at a restaurant in Kobe, Japan.
Wagyu refers to several breeds of cattle genetically predisposed to intense marbling and to producing a high percentage of oleaginous unsaturated fat.
The meat from wagyu cattle is known worldwide for its marbling characteristics, increased eating quality through a naturally enhanced flavor, tenderness and juiciness, and thus a high market value.
Several areas in Japan are famous for the quality of their Wagyu cattle, and ship beef bearing their areas' names.
Some examples are Kobe, Mishima and Ohmi beef. The wagyu cattle's genetic predisposition yields a beef that contains a higher percentage of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids than typical beef.
The increased marbling also improves the ratio of monounsaturated fats to saturated fats.
You can't like both? I prefer crab to lobster myself, but that doesn't mean that I don't love Waffle House.
Better widen the door frames.
michelle doesn’t like oprah- oprah’s gaydar is pinging on the messiah (in case enquiring minds wanted to know...LOL)
You sure got *that* right.
Dry Aged New York Steaks
Among our most popular steaks, cut from the center of the beef loin.
Niman Ranch Dry aged 16oz Center Cut New York Strip/2 Steaks
I like waffles...and I like grits..but mixed with oatmeal (keeps it from getting lumpy).
I am sorry/embarrassed for some of the responses in this thread, this article wasn’t a bad one. The wagyu steak is something that is on the menu a lot, is that like Kobe beef?
Sacrifice we can believe in.
Here he met Victimia, a long and lanky beauty, whose siren songs of woe bewitched; It was posted on FR a couple of weeks ago.
They were wed in the screaming gardens of Jeremiad. "O Victimia," he sang, "if I could but bottle thy sob stories, the world would be ours."
"Yes, Obamacles beloved," replied she, "but first let me help you conquer Chicago."
The monsters of Chicago were helpless against the duet's laments and dirges; Like a moth to a flame they proved irresistible, and the strange mutant beasts of this Isle of the Damned soon were transfixed by their enchantments:
The just toss a waterbuffalo on the fire and feed the townsfolk.
Hitlery better be careful as they might mistake her for this animal.
Personally, I prefer steak and eggs for breakfast....
DamYankees. It’s waffles and chicken
I had hoped that FReepers would avoid the racial stereotype... sigh...I was just funnin' about the food!
Who is she pandering to now? I’ve never met a northerner who ate grits ( but then I’m not close to any politicians )
So...you're saying she saw Stedman hitting on him?
...and the perpetuation of the negro stereotype continues from the “White” house.
I’m just sayin that’s what the tabliods say....you know dass all
Oprah’s main man Stedman got cut out of her will in 2008 -so much for deferred compensation
She and Gayle King just bosom buddies
That would be Wagyu and caviar...for the Obamas.
These two ARE the "racial stereotype!
If Michelle keeps eating that stuff, she’ll have to get a bigger trunk for all that junk.
You must not be from the south. Grits are eaten by all sorts of persuasions here in the south and southwest. Well, I think the demarcation line for automatic serving of grits over hashbrowns as a breakfast side order is about Greenville, Tx. Of course, there is a gray line of about 100 miles each way, east/west where you may get one or the other or be asked for your preference. by the way, I have eaten a lot of breakfasts across this great country and have never seen grits served globbed in the middle of a waffle...
Pray for America and Our Troops
Wrong, wrong, wrong. Selma, AL. Auburn Graduate, too. Since I left the south, I've never eaten grits willingly. Michele grew up in relative affluence in Chicago. She never had to eat cracklin' grits when there was nothing else to eat like I did growing up.
Grits and turnip greens are a bad memory of my childhood and adolescence.
I thought Waffles was the code name for Gigolo John Kerry and that grits was the code name for Representative Clyburn.
