Posted on 02/24/2009 7:14:01 PM PST by Jean S
Yes, and Obama can actually deliver a speech. Carter was not only a colossal twit and enemy of the state, but a boring one at that.
Not a guy.
I worked in Reagan’s campaign when he first ran for Gov.
I have a clue what works.
It’s not going to be Palin vs Obama. I promise we’ll field a stronger candidate.
Is that a law or something? My memory is hazy, but it could have been a NJ state-of-the-state address, but I’m not sure. It seems to be that no law could possibly restrict where Jindal could have chosen to speak or who could have been present at the time.
“...when has the Fox people ever given a Republican high marks for speaking in recent years.”
Fox had a horrible feed for Gov. Jindal’s response...and then Brit Hume and the gang cut him to pieces because he didn’t measure up to the Best Liar in the Land. They obviously forget that Hitler gave great speeches, too.
We are ready to cancel our satellite TV. We bought it years ago so we could get Fox News. It’s not worth it these days.
of course, because the guy who just held the WH for 8 years for us was such a great speaker and orator.
Bobby does rock and thankfully the US has him.
Well, considering that over 50% of American voters voted for Obama, maybe he should present as if talking to a bunch of Kindergareners.
Poll needs help... 12,161 votes
How do you rate President Obama’s address to Congress?
Thumbs up 73%
Thumbs Down 10%
Didn’t watch 17%
Don’t forget that the Fox morons and yes I consider them morons trashed McCain in the last debate when he did really well. Anyone that thinks Fox News gives Republicans a fair shake, I have swampland for sale in AZ as they like to say.
They were always trashing Bush after a speech and we had Fox back in the Reagan years they would trashed him as well not to mention their audio sucked.
He hit the corruption issue out of the park w/the turning our backs on corruption in LA that needs to come to DC. Perfect set-up for whats wrong w/the gummit.
Pray for America
Fox had a horrible
Fox is the new CNN lite. We watch Beck, even Hannity has gotten lame.
Or Michael Steele.......he is quite articulate, and not afraid to mix it up. NO MORE MR NICE GUY, GOP!
Jindal’s optimism and sound Republican answers were the perfect response to BO’s anger and blame game.
There you go, making sense again.
I couldn’t agree more. We have a wealth of untapped, youthful, conservative, educated Republicans who carry none of Palin’s baggage.
I like Jindal but that was pretty bad.
Rick Santelli should have given the rebuttal.
He wasn’t suppose to give a speech IMO. Obama did that. He gave a reasoned rebuttal
I noticed MSNBC ripped off Frank Luntz’s dial-a-meter focus group reactions.
You are so right! I can still remember him talking about the shining city on the hill. No fire and brimstone — just made you feel very uplifted and full of optimism.
Palin would be a good choice in 2012.
Bobby would have sounded stronger if he were seated this time. He ran out of steam and struggled for air a couple times during the presentation. Probably because he was standing up... without the benefit of having a podium to lean on. It’s natural to get tired when attempting this. As someone who does a lot of sales presentations, let me tell you I’m at my best when seated or at a podium.
He can easily build up his endurance through exercise, and it will help him speak while standing without a podium. The decision not to provide a podium in such an important setting is bizarre to say the least. Michael Steele, please don’t let this happen again.
“I dont know about whether it was a great speech. The man spoke for me.”
He spoke for me, too. I think there was some nervousness at the outset, but he recovered quickly. Remember, it’s more than speaking ability; Jindal will have the experience and accomplishments as an executive to run on, should he decide to make a go of it in 2012.
Though Jindal is not as slick a speaker as the zer0, he speaks from the heart, he’s the real deal and his optimism is infectious. The time will come when we’ll see him in front of a loud, responsive crowd. He’ll draw from the energy and bring out a much better speech.
Who Fred??? Duncan Hunter??? Please... Why do you hate Sarah??
Yeah, as long as she’s not being asked political questions. Sorry, I’ll never cast a vote for the woman. I’ve got my fingers crossed that Jindal will run in 2012.
Several people in Luntz’s focus group on Greta are praising Jindal’s rebuttal.
Well said. : )
Welcome to FR.
I wonder why they didn’t ask another governor to give the GOP response....say.....Sarah Palin?
Jindal is substance and it comes thru loud and clear.
McCain lost because of McCain. He ran against the oil companies. He ran for illegals. He was not conservative.
so he lost. Lieberman would not have changed that.
Hate? I don’t hate Palin. I wish her the best. I just don’t want her in a position of leadership. I’m less than impressed with her.
Oh, snap! I keep forgetting you know everything.
I absolutely do not want to see the Palin’s Couric interview 50,000 times in 2012. I love the lady, but I sure don’t want her as our candidate.
I think it’s important to see him as people who don’t know much about him would see him. I think he started out a little slow. There were some clever shots in there, but is he speaking to an audience that will ‘get’ those?
I like mostly what he had to say and he finished much stronger. Changing the ‘yes, we can’ to ‘Americans can do anything’. But he needs work on his delivery.
Forgive my ignorance, but isn’t this speech usually called the State of the Union!
Cmon, Jindal sounded like he was speaking to Romper Room and the Fox commentators called it as it was. I dont know about you but I prefer being spoken to like an adult. This was a dreadful failure. They should have given this to Governor Palin or Governor Sanford.
I agree, he cannot be the future of our party or we have no future.
Are you sure you don’t mean Ted Baxter(Judge Smails from Caddyshack)? Ted Stevens is the recently convicted former Senator from Alaska.
Agreed. He’s the real deal, and with a little work he’ll have the mass appeal that he needs.
That’s too often the Republicans’ problem: we let the Democrats cast our strongest candidates as stupid and/or extremists. Then we dutifully go to our our second string, thinking they’ll be less controversial.
Dissing Gov. Palin won’t work.
Your type and the leftwing media hate her.
That measn she is the one who can take down Obama
I am also a "Friend of Elmer" as well. ;-)
Yeah, this is a big mystery to me too. The GOP hasn't been able to nominate a presidential candidate who can formulate a cogent, complete sentence since 1984.
I also think it's no big deal to read well off a teleprompter. Any empty headed local news anchor can do better than the typical pol.
Bingo! The MSM was prepared with their comments and doubt if they heard his delivery. On Fox they had bad audio if they did which you could barely understand. Switched channels and Jindal was giving a good speech and the ending was great!
alpha male to lead.
Amen!!! These are corrupt, Communist thugs and we don’t need a wet noodle to fight them
