Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) said today that he has no doubts about President Obamas citizenship and that a news account from a town hall meeting last weekend that suggested he did was erroneous.
Shelby, in a brief interview with POLITICO after he appeared at the White House, dismissed a report in the Cullman (Ala.) Times in which he was captured as indulging a constituents question about whether the president was born on American soil, a widely debunked rumor held over from the presidential campaign.
Someone asked me that in a meeting and basically what I did is paraphrase, you know just quote for the crowd, what they said and I said that has been settled, Shelby recounted today, calling his remark distorted.
In the Cullman Times, Shelby was quoted as saying: Well his father was Kenyan and they said he was born in Hawaii, but I havent seen any birth certificate. You have to be born in America to be president.
Shelbys staff quickly said the paper had offered an incomplete account of the senators remarks. No video or audio tape has emerged from the meeting.
Shelby, who as the senior Republican on the Senate Banking Committee was appearing with Obama and other members of Congress to discuss financial regulation, made clear that he believed the president was a citizen.
[I] never had any doubts, he said. I didnt raise the doubt. They raised it in a meeting.
Shelby, who was captured on television Tuesday night chatting with Obama before his address to Congress, said he had not addressed the issue with the president.
No, he didnt bring it up. He wouldnt dignify it.
Surely you jest. Your standard of proof is entirely too high—especially considering we’re talking about the political elite.
born on American soil, a widely debunked rumor
Widely debunked rumor - is so much Verbal diarrhea.
Where is this debunked data? The long BC form has never been produced.
'puff-kiss-puff-kiss-puff-kiss-puff-kiss . . .
Shelby’s Democrat past seems to surface from time to time. The smell of roasting swine must have sent him running to the left.
There ya’ go!!!
;^)
You said it. Personally, I know that the mainstream already despises conservatives, so piss on ‘em. I’ll say what I think, appearances be damned.
Sure is. It’s a clumsy play on your screen name but “casting swine before a pol” might be a logical explanation.
Maybe he is using their own love for semantics on them.. He didn’t say he had no doubts he was a natural born citizen. Or, maybe I am just being too lenient on Shelby?
That’s OK. Politico is one of the naive places where they actually trust Fact Check and Fight the Smears.
Naw! A politician resorting to weasel words and trying to have it both ways? Who would think of such a thing?
Heaven forbid that a US Senator lower himself to demand that all the records be seen.
Should he do this he might be viewed as serving his constituents, no ruling them..
The time is near to throw politicians as well as the tea into they bay.
Only in the eyes of the MSM which would have gladly accepted a birth certificate written on cocktail napkin from the "Y'all Come Back Saloon".
One day a book may be written about Shelby.
It will be titled” The case of the Shrunken Testicles”.
