If I’m not mistaken this has been the policy since the ‘91 Gulf War. Vietnam was the last time we demoralized ourselves into defeat (through no fault of those brave soldiers that served).

In the real world I'd agree with that statement; but it was photos of dead soldiers coming back from Vietnam than turned americans [lower case 'a' intended] against the war and will be used as such again in our present political climate.
Obama is NOT an American.
Listen up ... he was most likely born in Kenya. He was raised in Indonesia. He viewed America from these countries as WEALTHY. He lived in poverty or saw poverty all around him. This is why he is NOT ashamed of his numerous half siblings in Africa etc.. To see a half brother in a thatched hut, half dressed isn't a big deal. He sees America's role as “spreading the wealth” around to OTHER COUNTRIES.
He got somewhere ONLY because of his skin color in America. His ENVY of America was not resolved. He will look out for BLACKS - ONLY because of his wife and two girls. Other than that he HATES America being STRONG and WEALTHY. He wants to CHANGE that. So photographing the dead minimizes America's image of being strong and coping with sadness. The photographing of our brave will make others lose their will and be more ashamed of “big ,bad America” being a “bully”. Obama wants to make friends with out enemies and flip the bird to our allies.

The press release that I read leaves a tremendous number of questions unanswered. Exactly how are they going to enforce this?
When you have four or five bodies returning at the same time, who's responsibility will it be to only allow the media to photograph the one soldier's body that the family gave permission for. Of course, this is assuming that one family did indeed give permission.

Official: Pentagon allows coverage of war coffins
WASHINGTON (CNN) — The Pentagon lifted its ban Thursday on media coverage of coffins of war victims as they arrive at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, according to a senior U.S. defense official with direct knowledge of the decision.
The coverage must be approved by families.
Some families have said they want the return of their family members’ remains to be private, Pentagon officials say.
Defense Secretary Robert Gates is to announce the policy change at a news conference at 2 p.m. ET, the senior official said.
Gates ordered a review of the policy after President Obama asked for more information on the Pentagon’s longstanding policy of barring media from viewing the coffins as they come into the base.

Agreed, I do also believe that it is far more equitable to let each individual family decide(nothwithstanding the inevitable family squabbles that will arise) instead of some Fedzilla diktat barring the families from having any say in the matter, as was the Bush policy.

How will it affect flight operations on this busy base?
IMHO, there is lot to work out.

Last night, I picked up a copy of the latest Army Times, and cried while I read an article about how some soldiers are buried in a way called “co-mingled.” They recently laid to rest the co-mingled remains of two soldiers who had been ambushed, and their bodies recoverd about a year later. Many of our brave soldiers who are killed in helicopter crashes are buried in one communal grave, co-mingled, b/c the heat from the blaze and crash they perished in made it impossible for dna to be extracted and tested. There was a listing of all co-mingled burials.
The mother of one of the brave soldiers was so movingly sad...she and the wife of the other brave soldier were pictured at the burial...my heart is breaking for our soldiers and their families.
Obama is a piece of excrement and seeks nothing more than political gain of some kind from his jackass decision.
I can’t believe he is gonna expose grieving families to the press...Excuse, me grieving family, can we photograph the casket of your dead loved one? Here, sign this paperwork, and remember, you never know WHEN you’ll turn on the damn TV and see this picture, as we are apt to run it anytime we wish. Just sign here, here, and here.
