"Martial Law" In House of Representatives
Burgess House Gov and Republicans House Gov ^

From Congressman Burgess's site:

http://burgess.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=103976

News "Martial Law" In House of Representatives

Washington, Sep 28, 2008 - Under the martial law procedure, long-standing House rules that require at least one day between the unveiling of significant legislation and the House floor vote on that legislation — so that Members can learn what they are being asked to vote on — are swept away. Instead, under “martial law,” the Leadership can file legislation with tens or hundreds of pages of fine print and move immediately to debate and votes on it, before Members of Congress, the media, or the public have an opportunity to understand fully what provisions have been altered or inserted into the legislation behind closed doors. This is the procedure that the Leadership intends to use to muscle through important bills in the next two days.

Can you imagine the screams of “FASCISTS!” coming from Leftists everywhere if the Republicans had ever tried this when they were in control.

I hope the Republicans remember this well, so that the next time they control the Congress, if there ever IS a next time, they will have no scruples about CRUSHING the DemonRATs with the most oppressive rules.

It’s long past time for the gloves to come off.

The only good that can come of this, is that the DemonRAT communists might finally overplay their hand.

How about some commentary on this? This was for a 2-day period in September to get TARP I through, right? Does its significance go beyond that? If so, why?

The republicans THOUGHT they could use the nice nice rules of parlimentary procedure to get something.

We are now paying the price for them being the stupid party.

I can imagine them... unfortunately it is only “imagine”.

Ha! Our Congressional Kings, the Lords of DC, are all corrupt, and [nearly] all traitors.

It is, but not of political parties, instead of “We the People”.
The only good that can come of this, is that the DemonRAT communists might finally overplay their hand.

I have one hope concerning Congress. That WHEN the Republicans get back in power, they will abandon their ‘touchy-feely let’s all get along’ mentality with their democrat counterparts, and instead stand on their necks with jackboots the way they are getting treated right now.

The question is, how does something like this get passed in the waning days of Bush?

Spell it OLIGARCHY. Adolf the Hitler essentially did business the same way by dissenfranchising all governmental checks and balances. Next thing you’ll be castrated too.

I would like to know why it is that the Republicans don’t simply walk out. Leave the building. Do it when you know that the C-SPAN cameras are live.

The Minority Leader needs to make a speech decrying the utter lack of fairness, the tyranny of the majority when 45% or so of the people voted the other way, and then say, “We are not going to stand by and participate in such a system, and thereby legitimize it. We are leaving - you Democrats explain to the American people why it is that for the first time in history 45% of the people have literally no voice.”

Then let the Dems do what they want - it’ll all be on them.

It’s past time to do away with the federal gov’t. It should pretty much be abolished except for a few things.

There is controversy as to whether we were under martial law. As per what I see, that I posted, we were for 2 days. No one but Congressman Burgess will confirm or deny this happened. But that vote shows it did.

To my understanding, martial law cannot be implemented without announcing it. I can’t find an announcement. I can’t find First Responder sites showing procedures were in place for it. If it happened, was it just done to steal the treasury? Is this where the monies came from for the Stimulus Package? Martial Law does instill power to Government to take control of finances. I don’t know.

What conditions were in place that allowed for Martial Law to be implemented? I don’t remember a terroristic event.
