As discussed yesterday, Houston was one of many (40?) cities across the country today that held rehearsal tea parties in anticipation of July 4th. I hoped on the scooter and went down to check it out.
I arrived precisely at 11:00 am, the announced starting time. There werent a lot of people there, perhaps 50 or so. And they didnt start on time, typical for these events. I hung out for about an hour and a half, if you were there, I most likely have your picture. The crowd kept growing the entire time I was there, Id estimate it to be just over 200 by the time I left.
Once they finally started up, they had several speakers, including organizer Felicia Cravens. Youll have to turn elsewhere or look in the comments for the list, I didnt bother to write it down. Some young black dude that said he was a preacher gave a rousing speech, short on meat, long on rhetoric.
Overall, Id say that the protest met its goal and then some. The people that did attend were very entthusiastic, loud and ready to work; if they follow this up with focused direction, this could turn into a good sized movement.
I met several LSTrs: AmericanWoman, Luv2Hammer, LawrenceC and GTOTracker. Lots of pics, here are a couple of AW and LC with their signs, front and back:
Great photos and slogans.
Hoping this starts a consistent message by a growing number of us.
Thanking you, Houstonites
I really hope this trend grows.
Very nice.
I am hoping this morphs into a serious protest of the tax structure and these give-a-ways.
Perhaps a “week without Republicans” —— week of April 15. No work. No purchasess. Kids stay home from school.
1/52 of the National GDP down the drain.

From what I’ve heard on a couple of talk shows....they’re gonna get bigger.
Sorry I missed it, I was at work watching the trail riders come in. Would have rather been there.
Thanks for this report. I have a weekly painting class on Friday and could not be there.
I wanted so badly to drive over to Houston today for this, but work does come first. I hope next time they plan these for a weekend where more people can participate.
1000 attended on the steps of the Arch in St Louis.
Hey, Houston, great job. I attended the Atlanta Tea Party and we fielded 200 plus in the pouring rain on the Capitol steps. It started on time but because of the weather ended early. We got a lot of encouragement from drivers passing by and from a group of State legislators. Again, great job Houston!
I posted my pictures on the Houston Tea Party event page on FaceBook.
I think the turnout could have been much larger if the protest had been better planned. Why couldn’t it have been held on Saturday or Sunday instead of a workday? Apart from this website, I did not see or hear any promotion of the protest until this morning, on the local conservative radio station, KSEV 700. But I do appreciate the efforts of those that showed up!
Mind if I post a few of those here on this thread tonight?
Go for it.
Thanks for the report. Great job!
Ping!
