Obama strikes back at budget critics
The Washington Times ^ | Saturday, February 28, 2009 | Jon Ward

Posted on 02/28/2009 1:04:10 PM PST by topfile

President Obama on Saturday struck back aggressively at critics of his $3.6 trillion budget proposal, casting himself as a populist crusader whose "sweeping change" has angered Washington's entrenched special interests, and promised to fight them.

"I realize that passing this budget won't be easy. Because it represents real and dramatic change, it also represents a threat to the status quo in Washington," Mr. Obama said in his weekly video and radio address.

Mr. Obama's language was combative and confrontational, as he promised to fight for "American families."

"I know these steps won't sit well with the special interests and lobbyists who are invested in the old way of doing business, and I know they're gearing up for a fight as we speak. My message to them is this: So am I," he said.

Since he unveiled his budget blueprint on Thursday, the reaction in the financial markets and among the business community, not to mention the Republican party, has been decidedly negative.

Influential conservative economist Lawrence Kudlow wrote Friday that Mr. Obama was proposing "anti-growth" tax hikes that make "absolutely no sense" and are intended to promote a "left-wing social vision."

Mr. Obama, he said, was "declaring war on investors, entrepreneurs, small businesses, large corporations, and private-equity and venture-capital funds."

One day after announcing that U.S. combat troops would leave Iraq in 18 months, the president's weekly address was his first major response to budget criticisms. He portrayed critics as fat cats and power brokers who have enriched themselves at the cost of every day Americans.

More like lashing out than “striking back” and people who know a thing or two about an economy and business.

When idiots get criticized, they lash out uncontrollably.

The language of thuggery. That being said, he couldn't strike a match, much less strike out against anyone. Dirtbag.

Why would the lobbyists and special intersts be upset? Everyone got some pie.

Unless he now considers taxpayers to be a “special interest” whose voices must be silenced.

Its not just the lobbyists that the plan is not sitting well with...

Its about the 150 million other PROUD Americans the 92 percent of working Americans that are doing the best they can sometimes working two jobs or strapping their budgets to make ends meet. 8 percent national unemployment is not the Sky falling crisis scenario that Obama wants to use to force through his multi Trillion dollar socialist plans that are doomed for failure. The people that are upset are those responisible Americans that are being called on to pay for the 8 percent of unemployed worker of which some do not even desire to work and find it more beneficial to remain on the welfare rolls and accept the handouts from the government wait whats that secret the Government doens’t want you to know... Thats right The Government is the PEOPLE so common sense which Obama sorely lacks says that for every dollar spends that does not create a dollar of private sector investment is a dollar that has been removed from the economy and that must be paid back with interest at some future date and so the government will rape the people force them into severe debt to embolden a generation of laziness and dependence on government.

THIS IS CORVEE LABOR. WELCOME TO THE OBAMA PLANTATION.

It's very ironic that 0bama is accusing so-called 'special interests' of not wanting to accept vast amounts of overspending.

To draw an analogy, 0bama wants to force feed the American goose that lays the golden eggs of freedom and wealth. What's he hoping for after he kills it? Foie Gras?

This budget “battle” is a tool. Obama is setting up a strawman - supposedly lobbyists and special interests who oppose this budget (they don’t). But the GOP does. Obama has all the necessary votes to pass this comfortably and then some. So, voila, it passes, he claims credit, and gets to lump the GOP in with the non-existant lobbyists and special interests opposing the budget that will bring change. He looks like a big populist hero and the GOP looks small and special-interestish.

Sadly, the sooner his Socialist/Communist executions reach critical mass with the taxpayer, the sooner we can begin to dig our country out from this nightmare. To raise taxes on the top 1,2,5 or even 10 percent, during or soon after a deep recession, is to commit economic suicide.

Look for Alinsky-type propaganda about “the wealthy paying their fair share” married to a healthy dose of collectivist demagoguery in the future. Once the electorate, not only sees, but feels, the light-speed domino effect this will have on employment and therefore the economy, they will be in open revolt.

The Kenyan Communist is executing a hedging strategy. He is putting a lot of his strategy into effect upfront by getting a Socialist foot-in-the-door, if you will. He will then wait until after the 2010 elections to pull the trigger on full blown, non-hedged Socialism.

Zero looks he’s swapping Bush’s War On Terrorism with his own War On Capitalism.

I just bust a gut recalling those debates when he was droning on about how NOW is NOT the time to be raising taxes.

The huge tax increases could be just enough to propel the US Economic system into a second depression...all the while Zero and his cohorts will have their outstretched arms yelling “come to papa” as he is then “FORCED” to nationalize just about everything useful in the US.

THEN, he will have his FIAR America.
